Sportswriter Rick Reilly On Donald Trump's Golf Cheating

Rick Reilly, one of America’s preeminent sportswriters and a member of the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame, is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump (2019).
Based on Reilly's own experiences with Trump as well as interviews with over 100 golf pros, amateurs, developers, and caddies, Commander in Cheat is a startling and at times hilarious indictment of Trump and his golf game.
Reilly reveals how Trump cheats (sometimes with the help of his caddies and Secret Service agents), lies about his scores (the "Trump Bump"), tells whoppers about the rank of his courses and their worth (declaring that every one of them is worth $50 million), and tramples the etiquette of the game.

More importantly, he was never *loved.* Kindness, warmth and positive emotions were drilled into him at an early age as being signs of *_weakness._* The only qualities valued by his ghastly tyrant of a father were rage, humiliation, and belittlement. Trump turned them into his manifesto, and a monumentally stupid America inexplicably elected him president. And here we now are. Democracy in peril. 🍊⚖

It's not just getting your ass kicked, it's being forced to acknowledge that you got your ass kicked. I know this from personal experience unfortunately. I am now thankful that I got my "attitude adjustment" when I was 11 years old, otherwise I would probably have turned out to be an insufferable asshole like Donny Rotten. It doesn't have to be in a physical fight it just has to be an undeniable defeat. To me it seems like Trump's power of denial and his ability to lie to himself may have made this impossible. Maybe when he was a kid it would have been possible, but his dad seemed to encourage the "never admit you lost" behavior. Sad, really.

As a man who's competed in many sports, I can say that, in the throes of competition, is where you find someone's character. It defines who you are. So, yeah, many of his blind followers wills ay, "Hey...it's just golf!". No, it's not. It's a moment, that exposes your truth. And as we have just heard(and have witnessed, to this day 9-2-22), he is a tragic, sad cheating, liar..It doesn't matter how many things he covers with his name in giant, gold letters, or who he trots around, to try and impress others...he is a fraud. If you are a respectable business person and trump is lying about your accomplishments in a public setting you're being conned and bullied by a person who lies. His choice to lie about you can make you feel both better than and very undignified at the same instant. Sometimes he would play like crap but his score would be better. It was very perplexing until I really started to pay attention. Hit would take 5 shots but write down a 4 . He would always find his ball in the trees in places he could hit a recovery shot. Sometimes he would find his ball where his ball had no right to be. My late father was a volunteer at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am for many years, during which he had many roles, from marshal to starter. He saw many of the same participants year after year, many of whom he greatly admired, although not due their celebrity, but rather their respect for the game, as well as their tournament partner. His least favorite celebrity was Trump, because he utterly lacked respect for the game and was a notorious cheat. In 1993 when he lucked out at Spyglass with a hole-in-one, he bragged about it shamelessly to every starter at every hole, on each of the courses. When he got to the hole at Pebble where my father was starter, he immediately began to brag about it, while his mouth was still full of the hot dog he was devouring. He let Trump go on about it until the point Trump fully expected my father to respond with awe about his golfing prowess, however, my father simply said (dead pan with a straight face) “Well, that’s because you were hitting from the ladies’ tee.” As the world now knows, Trump has zero sense of humor, and is incapable of laughing at himself, so my father’s remark got a chuckle out of everyone but Trump 🤣

As "13" is considered to be a number that gives bad luck, some buildings here in the western hemisphere do jump the 13th floor. In China, the number word for "4" sounds like the word for "death", so they sometimes skip the 4th floor. Once I was in Shanghai, and the hotel skiped both the 4th and 13th floor, to please both cultures. At least that's the story I got when I asked the staff about it.

  • @DBMe33

@@FriedrichHerschel Thats really very far away from what 45 did. So far away as to be irrelevant. I dont want to but I feel compelled to side eye u for even saying it. Itd be a **little** bit different if he had a superstition based reason for it. Then, it can be looked at from the angle of a genuinely mentally ill individual who was ridiculously enabled, not so much bc of the actual action, but for consciously choosing, the potentially grave & intentionally deceptive lack of transparency route, simply for egomaniacal sake. At least with the Winchester House, it was not a public building that was housing unsuspecting (& therefore non consenting) tenants & visitors. The '13th floor skip' trope is widely known & it's **one** floor. I would suspect that firemen would be inclined to verify if that was a factor with the building in question, particularly in a place like NYC that has such a prevalence for uniqueness (for lack of a better word). And, also if they found themselves encountering a location issue. I would think that NYC firemen are NYC-style wise enough to be aware of the 13th floor skip possibility, just in general. And bc they are familiar with the possible mindset of alot of the rich ppl that put up these kinds of buildings there. Or maybe just from past experience with the location & consequentially an open awareness of it amongst those in the fire dept. I'm guessing that aside from any 'public reocrd,' architectual info, such thing probably isnt offically documented as an fyi for situations like a fire. I say that as a person with an ocd level belief in organization & clarity. But after hearing about what this egomaniac did, something like that **should** now be on public record for emergencies & general awareness. Any future pertinent reasons, like a natural disaster or a criminal investigation. There is no precedent & no popular/infamous pop culture trope about **randomly** skipping a whole ten floors. Again, that's like Winchester House crazy. Not only is it crazy to do such a thing & not have it be on record, but it **should** be criminal. Like big pharma, commercial/industrial environment polluting criminal. Bc as is shown with the story, it is dangerous. There could have been a much worse outcome with that. Residents, employees & the first responders lives were unnecessarily put at risk. It could have quickly turned into an injury, death & avoidable large scale destruction event, if the fire had been more serious. They could have been wondering around looking for it, wasting precious time as it intensified bc of this orange jackass. There are so many ways that this story or another there could have gone tragically wrong. Its str8 psychopathic of all in charge to allow that to happen bc of money & who was 'holding' it. But rich folks (or in 45's case, supposedly rich) dont get called crazy or evil. They don't get called out at all. Instead, they are eccentric, unique individuals or poor sufferers of living the lifestyle of the wealthy > even moreso if they are also famous. They get to have diabolical, wanton disregard for all others in their pursuit of ego & social image fulfillment. Meanwhile, everybody else is taught to excuse or feel sorry for them, exalt & praise the further enabling their sociopathic, narcissistic natures & tendencies. The more that I think about how egregiously reckless, irresponsible & callous(at best) what he did is, the more I see just how truly disgusting this person is. And I thought that after 4 years of this, I had a good grasp of his level of wretchedness. There simply is 0 excusing something like this. 😠😖

I don't know.. this sound kind of weird.. I think about the logistics in raising a high rise building.. the sturdiest part would half to be the Base of structure.. as the building rises to a certain level structural strength would have to be change not to over load the structural base.. so mid levels would have to be lighter.. changes can occur especially if funs are limited.. & projections would reveal these limit.. lets say the building has 40 stories.. & projections reveals only 30 floors can be.. theoretically the last floors to be built.. all the hardware finishing touch on would already produced.. & at 20 floors the building would be finished off with floors 30-40 since this would be lighter than floors 20-30.. to save money.. what would you.. have the 20-30 floor installed at full cost.. or skip those floors.. coming floor 30-40 at 57% the cost.. so what would you do?... I know how people can twist the truth to legitimize their lies.. & these rumors are as bad as swapping spit, stories & jokes by a bunch of barflies over drinks in their favorite watering hole..

Remember that Trump is incapable of feeling guilt ( or empathy) because he is a sociopath and a self serving narcissist. He doesn’t care if a few thousand golfers know about his dishonesty and cheating personality. It doesn’t phase or embarrass him like it would a normal and healthy minded person. All he cares about is him name up on some kind of board for all the other suckers to see and believe. All 150,000,000 + of them ( is that half of the U.S. population?) He has a method of propaganda in everything he does , even it’s with his wives, close family members, schoolmates, employees, or U.S. voters. The trouble for him is he took it too far. He became the U.S. president by manipulating his followers while not caring one bit about the wellbeing of 150 + million Democrats or even his own followers by the looks of things. They are just his pawns in his game and they are expendable as well, in his mind. Luckily,in the U.S., Democracy still stands and he has been removed of power, status, respect. He has no real friends that will be there for him because psychopaths/sociopaths don’t know what makes a true and real friendship, a bond. He has not ever cultivated that and he’s going to live in a very lonely world soon. You can only lie to some of the people, some of the time...
