I've heard multiple examples of that behavior - Trump spins his stuff as having tremendous value when it's in fact cheap junk. In his mind, if it LOOKS expensive but it is in reality very cheap, it's a good enough shortcut. Why pay good money for quality when you can spend pennies for something that just LOOKS good and gets admiring nods? He doesn't care if it's quality stuff or not, he just wants you to THINK it's high-quality stuff.

It was a funny joke, but to be fair for private audiences with the Pope (at the Vatican) have a dress protocol. Women are required to wear black and be veiled. There are actually quite a few photos of various female world leaders or female spouses wearing black with a veil.
