REVEALED: Trump’s hidden video deposition in Trump University fraud case

During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump was burdened with federal lawsuits that accused him and his Trump University of defrauding students who had paid thousands of dollars to learn the supposed secrets of Trump’s financial success. As part of the lawsuit, Trump sat for a contentious six-hour deposition in Trump Tower on December 10, 2015. He subsequently managed to get the court to seal the video recording of the session.
But Mother Jones has now obtained the full video of Trump’s deposition. The written transcript of the session was released in June 2016, but the video version includes several exchanges that likely would have not played well for Trump if they had become public when he was chasing votes. Had the video deposition been released during the campaign, it probably would have yielded ammo for anti-Trump ads.
The video shows Trump parrying with the lawyer for the plaintiffs, Jason Forge, over various issues, including false statements made by Trump University employees and Trump’s own memory. Trump at one point griped, “It’s the most ridiculous lawsuit I’ve ever seen.” He claimed not to remember having boasted that he possessed one of the best memories in the world and repeatedly said he could not recall matters related to the fraud case. He downplayed false and misleading statements presented by Trump University instructors as merely “hyperbole,” refusing to label them “false.” He even disavowed a passage from one of his own books in which he had assailed educational institutions for committing “fraud.”
Mother Jones was provided the video by a source who asked not to be identified. Art Cohen, who was a lead plaintiff in one of the lawsuits against Trump University and Trump, confirmed that this was the actual video of the deposition. (Last month, Mother Jones posted a video of a conversation that occurred during a break in these proceedings between Trump and Dan Petrocelli, Trump’s attorney, in which Trump boasted of threatening the Better Business Bureau to change the D grade it awarded Trump University to an A.)
Trump University shut down in 2010. Though Trump vowed during the 2016 campaign that he would never settle the Trump U lawsuits, days after the 2016 election, he did just that. He paid the students $25 million, without acknowledging any wrongdoing.
NOTE: We are providing subtitles for this video that draw on details, including names, found in the official court transcript: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-sta...

I'm instinctively, so inevitably, bilingual, so words of the same spelling in French and in English can sometimes automatically carry the two meanings when I use them or when I read or hear them. "Con" in English is a confidence trick/trickster. In French "con" is the equivalent of one of the worst examples of bad language in English, the "c-word". Trump unites the English and the French! The French use their "c-word" frequently and casually, which I think is the ugliest septic pimple on a beautiful language. John McCain shocked me to the core when he, a great and honourable warrior, insulted his wife with the Engish "c-word".

The problem is, this describes virtually all the rich elite right now. They've learned that manipulating things to get your way is THE way in life. They break the laws until they can change them to their favor. And their legal teams make sure the lawbreaking is never punished. And we know that 60% of American wealth is inherited, this is the reality. And plan for this to only get worse. The only real work Trump did was assist the Trump Family tax scam, a systematic defrauding of the American taxpayer. This scheme was run like Lance Armstrong ran his scheme: with bullying and lawyers and money.

The part of this deposition where Trump says "I have a good memory," this should be included in a campaign ad against him prior to the 2024 election & have this part of his depo (where he says he has such a great memory) precede clips of ALL THE TIME(S) where he has said he doesn't know or remember E. Jean Carroll (ever meeting her when there is clearly a photograph showing that he did) & how he doesn't remember ever meeting all the other women who have accused him of sexual abuse as well. Yeah, right, he has a great memory 🙄

@@fretic777 Such a hot take you have there. Yeah if you listen to Fox News or Rush Limbaugh or read Breitbart those things seem pretty bad. They're a distraction though, false consciousness. Let's look at real numbers on executive branch corruption crimes BEFORE Donald Trump. Both parties before him controlled the white house a roughly equal amount of time in the last 53 years before the Trump Presidency. Executive Branch Republicans before Trump in the last 53 years: 120 indictments, 89 convictions, 34 prison sentences. Executive Branch Democrats before Trump in the last 53 years: 3 indictments, 1 conviction, 1 prison sentence. It's really no contest which party has been more corrupt in the White house when you look at actual numbers. You sir, have been a victim of spin by the Right Wing propaganda machines. Trust me, if charges could have been brought against these people for these things, the GOP wouldn't hesitate to do it. But there's nothing to charge them for. It's all about continuing to make people like you believe that these things are so criminal that you ignore the actual criminal history by the party feeding you these lies. You think this Oh so best president who has his followers chanting 'Lock Her Up' wouldn't have the Department of Justice charge Hillary Clinton with a crime if they could? Or Hunter Biden? It would benefit him so much. But they can't, because there's nothing beyond making people believe they're the super devils.

@@SiriusMined Well then, this is likely either because they made a very strong impression on you, or it was very important to you to remember them. Or ot could be because you saw their names almost daily for probably a few years. Remember these are not people whose teaching he sat under. He had people who hired them for him as his representative. Beyond hearing goid things about their knowledge and capabilities and that the chosen instructors were doing a good job in what they were hired for, and especially considering that the “university” was not his only endeavor, there would be little reason for his brain to hold onto their names. Our memories are stored very selectively based on what they determine is important to hold onto. Someone very close to me has an incredible memory for all kinds of trivial details and dates, but can barely remember what he said to me hours or days ago. Even events or conversations we had that I remember very clearly, he has completely forgotten. Do some research on how menory works and you will find that it is in fact very selective. Not that we are trying to be selective, but probably has a lot to do with our priorities and also HOW we remember. For example, some people have trained themselves to retain certain memories, such as names they consider important, or charts or whatever it is they want to retain by associating them with other things. Others are not so intentional, and so its easier for them to forget those things. It’s easy to forget the names 5 years later of people who worked for ONE of your many projects or businesses. There was no reason to hold onto them tightly in his head. If he wanted to, all he had to do was go back and look at records. We don’t have exhaustive capability to store everything. Ok maybe some people with photographic memory, but I suspect even they at some point have to pick things to let go and what things their brain holds onto whether consciously or not.

How many people who fall for scams get their money back? If you are selling something it should be on you to make sure you have a safe and quality product. No deception. I am an adult...and sober...and, for the most part, real. I have been called loser and sucker at various times in my life. It may be something we have in common. I am going to vote to have an adult leading the country not, return the pretender who's there now. I will attempt to make sure my sarcasm is more discernable in the future.
