Lyrics;
Make a move, get off your spine
Shake your leg, tow the line
Mum's the word, the doctor said
Try your hand at this instead
Standing fast as bold as brass
Holding on until the last
Call the tune and play it all day long
There's a song that's just begun
Strikes a chord in everyone
It's the decent thing to do your best
Risk you take when on the make
Is falling down upon the ground
That's the breaks a bone or two
Bring's it home it's up to you
Standing fast as bold as brass
Holding on until the last
Call the tune and play it all day long
There's a song that's just begun
Strikes a chord in everyone
It's the decent thing to do - your best
They're gonna move my spine?
Make a move, get off your spine
Shake your leg, tow the line
Mum's the word, the doctor said
Try your hand at this instead
Standing fast as bold as brass
Holding on until the last
Call the tune and play it all day long
There's a song that's just begun
Strikes a chord in everyone
It's the decent thing to do your best

SplitEnz was supremely versatile, incredibly inventive, awesomely awesome, and all it takes is one or two chords on the breeze , to conjure up so many memories of my youth . If you don’t get them , you’re brain isn’t worthy . Simple . Like you . Move along.. SplitEnz Forever 💜
I saw these guys in San Francisco in 1976! One of the coolest, freakiest shows I've ever seen! Such a great, underrated band!!!

Underrated? World famous in New Zealand - since ages ago. (L& P ads) 😆
Has Nigel Griggs EVER gotten enough credit for how fantastic his bass lines were?

Lovely player!!
I love watching young Neil acting goofy.
Great use of the whistle.
Tim Finn is one of my favorite front men. so original.
Really appreciating how original split enz were, the first album is crazy prog art rock, and unlike anything else really, then they just kept experimenting and honing their pop writing, to become one of our most loved bands. Really great
Possibly my favourite Enz song
A hugely talented unique mob. This has been a favouriteEnz song
This is one of a bunch of my favourite Enz tunes. Brilliant!
Mindblowing tune..just listen to that wacky dope bassline!!!
malcolm green on drums looking the part 😄
Such a cool track… I love all of Split Enz old tracks. Brilliant stuff.Underrated band.
Classic Split Enz!!
Eh up! I'm back again for another fix! Loving that Rickenbacker bass.
Masterpiece.
best progressive rock band with wry new zealander sensibility...imo
I'm pretty sure there was another video for this (in the UK, at least). This song was how I discovered them.
My favorite 80s zombie band, hands down. Good chorus!

Zombie?? You mean Zolo right? And they were later a 80's band, but this song/album itself came out in 1977, they were a weirdly ahead of their time band.

Freakin loved this song.
Dig that bass
New Wave "Zoombie-Band"😮 New Zealand Style....
gotta my favorite split enz song
Underrated band
Neil Finn is sooo cute! 😍
Loved these guys for years. Was never lucky enough to see them live only managed when they morphed into Crowded House.
Love this vid. A glorious bit of Antipodean silliness. Catchy tune, too…..
Good qual vid as this dates to the 1970s I recall
Nice, but I hope you can get a 4K scan and upgraded sound for this gem at some point.
Brilliant !! . . . . . Just Brilliant !!!
Why in the HELL did they market this brilliant, cutting-edge band as some dorky, nerdburger geek band? This track was soooooo far ahead of its time.

Everything I have read and heard in interviews says the outfits and makeup look was all their own idea, to get noticed. Noel designed the costumes and did most of the album covers. The weird look did not go over well in Aust. or the states.

Their Bowie/Roxy Music/Dada Theatre look fit the sound of the music. Would you want them to go out as Ted Nugent or Z Z Top lookalikes playing this down under new wave futurist sound?
@yossarian6799

@@ToryZStarbuck but their look isn't "New Wave Futurist" à la Siouxsie Sioux or the Cure. It's more like a lame, Podunk Idaho Walmart version of the real thing. The ridiculous facial expressions and silly dancing around was quite immature for such a cutting-edge band. That's just my opinion. Frankly, I don't think they needed a "look" at all.
@ToryZStarbuck

@@yossarian6799 Split Enz did this 5 years before there even WAS the brilliance of Siouxsie or The Cure. Their facial expressions are completely taken from Oskar's Bauhaus ballet and DuChamp's Dadaist performances. Not to mention Mark Beyer's new wave Tony Target/Amy and Jordan series. Tuxedomoon and The Residents have already crowned these guys new Wave "merchants".
This song popped into my head for some reason and I had to seek it out. Love that bass line, but I was wondering about the main riff/hook. Is that slide guitar, they don't show it being played in the video.

Sussed it from a live video. It's the keyboard using pitch bend very creatively.
Is that symbolic for "panda eyes" the creepy face painting?? RIH
I like Split Enz so much more than Crowded House

Yep. Crowded House were simpler so became a big international success commercially.

I was upset when Neil created Crowded House thinking he 'sold out' the band, but that's ancient history now.
Classic acid soaked NZ music.

I have a copy of this album, saw them at the whiskey a go go, 1980 ..met the whole band,..and they autographed my copy, great guys very nice down to earth, love their music, since my teenage years.
😆😆😆
I wonder if PeeWee Herman was a Split Enz fan. This video reminds me of some of his zaniness.
Two brilliant albums before falling to mediocrity. Two more than most bands make. Superb live too.
Lyrics composed entirely of cliché
