If I were just starting out, maybe I would get one, but for $100 less for a DX6e, or $80 less for a DX8E, I'm liking those DX series better for the value. Those two are dang good radios, and will do just about everything the NX will do. Just a couple more bells and whistles, charge more, and then discontinue DX series. That's Spektrums plans. IMHO.

@@clean1566 Good point. I think that's the strategy of almost all kinds of companies these days. The key is probably whether those extra bells and whistles would really resolve customers' biggest pain points, whether it would really add value (for the extra $$$), etc. IMHO...

@@DrWenChannel I don't think this radio has a multi-protocol capability. It only works with Spectrum receivers. I don't know if you can add multi protocol module to it. RadioMaster, and JUmperPro, are a couple of options to look at, if that's what you want to do. It's also @ $100 less. Good luck!

👍 Yes, please run out and upgrade your Spektrum radios so us frugal new guys can get a deal on a used DX6 or DX8. 😊 [Half joking aside], appears to be a feature rich quality upgrade. Maybe a plus would be that the telemetry results in less planes being destroyed? That could be a big money saver in the long run.[

radiomaster is great, really great, for available replacement of hall sensor gimbals just in case, 150 dollars multi protocol, no wifi but do you need that? 11/22 frame rate is good from nx series, 11/22 frame rate is on tbs crossfire module too, so i think i will buy radiomaster and put a 3rd party module if i want a better frame rate, wifi? vs old school usb, not a problem. i will go for radiomaster, although i am hoping if nx series cost has a much better offer in latency/framerate and channel.

Great question Robert! I would personally Highly recommend this radio, as it is basically "future proofed" for a very long time. If you can spend a few more bucks, I'd consider the NX8, as it provides two more channels, which can come in handy for slightly more advanced aircraft. Your next plane, as my own recommendation, would either be the Turbo Timber or the Valiant! Both amazing aircraft to push yourself on. After that, there are some amazing warbirds to consider. One of which will debut on our channel tomorrow, if not soon. I hope this helps! Please continue reaching out to us, but post a new comment when you do. KZread makes it difficult to respond to comments older than about a day or more for creators.

Pretty neat radio, I'm happy with my DX8 but if I was looking for a radio one of the new models would be nice. Love the color display, new gimbals, new battery technology, even the fold down antenna. Downside is that its black, like my DX8, in the southern part of the US in the summer time you have to find a shady spot to sit the radio, you really can't leave it sitting out in the sun when its hot, a silver case would be a better, or maybe I should say a more practical choice.

I think if they can be found in a sale then the price difference could be $40.00 odd , also the price range you quote is to the TX only. - other wise I thought I would let you know based on your info , I have just purchased an NX6 as my DX9 backup TX... or maybe they will exchange rolls once I get my hands on the NX6 - thanks

6 channels isn't enough enough for quads. 1st 4 channels AETR, that only leaves you 2 additional channels. Need additional channels for the following: arm, pre-arm (learned the hard way you want both for quads and helicopters), flight modes, turtle mode, and beeper (needed even for 4" quads - I'd have never found my X-knight yesterday without it). I also run another channel for lower rates while in Agility mode. 9 channels total.

Bingo! I started with drones, and am trying airplanes. The T16Pro with Hall effect gimbals was an improvement over TaranisQX7, but you do need all those channels, and paying 4 times as much to get a radio from Spectrum to do less, doesn't make sense, unless all you do is fly spektrum receivers in planes. They are a lot easier to bind and program their own receivers, so there's that!

My second time watching this video. Just trying to pick up on as much information as I can. Have been reading the comments this time from others. Seeking more opinions. It’s my understanding from “Mrs. Claus” 🤶 that I will be getting the NX8 for Christmas 🎄 2022. I’d love to see a follow up on this radio. Or actually watch you go through a setup of one of your future plane ✈️ videos. Thank you for all you and Abby do for the RC Community. Before I go, let’s all keep our neighbors in Florida in our prayers, during the Ian storm. Thank you. God bless.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for this video. I'm very excited about this new series from Spectrum. Currently I'm using the DXS that came with my RTF Carbon Cub S2+ 1.3 - I planned on using this plane as a BNF - my gateway into a future transmitter purchase. My question: If the new NX series precipitates a price discount on their DX9, what would be the better way to go? A NX8, or a DX9?

100% buy this radio with a BNF airplane, especially if you plan on owning more than one plane. Literally the only downside to doing this is cost up front. You can bind a LOT of planes to these radios. In the long run, it will save you money too 👍😎⚓

VERY new here: Love the new 6.5 channel transmitter. I'm going to ask a very basic question about channel usage. I can figure out what to use 6 channels for (Prop, ailerons, flaps, rudder, elevator, and then retractable gear). When I do advance, what could I look forward to using the other 2 channels for (justify getting a DX8 or NX8)? Thanks to everyone in advance for sharing their ideas!

Things like flight modes (e.g. SAFE and other receiver-integrated, remote-triggered modes), telemetry, lights, ailerons on separate channels (though “flaps” probably covers that one, as I can’t think of any examples of using _both_ independent aileron channels _and_ dedicated flaps/spoilers on a model), additional sensors (GPS, accelerometers, etc.), payload drop bay, camera trigger, independently-servo’d steerable nose gear... No doubt there are plenty more ways to fill an available channel. 16-channel radios wouldn’t be the hot sellers they are unless people had ideas for how to use them! 🤔😁

I have several Spektrum radios but I sure wouldn't buy their radios now. There are much much better options which use OpenTX. The new one from Radiomaster looks great. FrSky used to make good stuff but wouldn't buy their stuff anymore now that they switched to a proprietary protocol. Make sure to take a look at some of the quadcopter channels and see the radios they're using. Spektrum was cool ten years ago but now they're now way overpriced for what you get.

and have to learn how to mix everything off of forums, which takes forever. plus you need a computer and all that other crap, and everyone knows the quality of overseas manufacturing. It's all stollen then made into trash. It's more affordable to buy quality because the cheap stuff is broken 5 years later, not the quality brand. You just whine about pricing because you have zero comprehension of the manufacturing business, or don't care about supporting local business over mass produced ip theft and espionage by the CCP's WTO influence. In real life Taiwan and Hong Kong are both being invaded by China, they aren't part of China, other than the one china trade policy. We arm Taiwan's military against china. China let out this stupid virus by routing traffic of infected people arround the world, while closing down travel within China. Why would you want to have your money anywhere near such a shit storm. China still explodes nuclear weapons in 2020, they enslave 1 million weegar muslims in re-education camps, and they cause 30% of the entire planets pollution. There are plenty of reasons, people just don't say anything because they have money overseas they care more about than their own countries national security.

It’s a fair point that Deviation and OpenTX are not on the same level of user-friendliness as Spektrum. However, they aren’t order-of-magnitude different, you get used to the design language reasonably quickly, and there are plenty of helpful resources on KZread and elsewhere to guide you along. If that’s not acceptable, by all means go with Spektrum (or whichever system you like). It’s also a fair point that Spektrum products are manufactured in China, same as most things in this hobby. I don’t begrudge anyone wanting to patronize domestic businesses. 👍 Just be aware that U.S. branded doesn’t automatically mean U.S. built. I tend to lean toward kkuenzel56’s position on the price/value scale. But then I’m thoughtful in how I handle my gear, so I don’t need it to be substantially over-engineered for it to remain in good condition over the long run. I’m fine allocating those dollars toward expanded features/capabilities (ergo, the Jumper multi-protocol radios appeal to me), or just saving them for something else. Other people will prefer to go the over-engineered, don’t-have-to-be-careful-with-it route, and that’s fine. Whatever floats your boat, or flies your plane! 😁

I realize that this video is a few years old, but I'd be curious to know how people feel about the minimal buttons on this. Comparing it to the olderTXs I've owned, 8103, 9X, the minimal buttons seems problematic. I'm used to dialing in dual rates and subtrims on the fly (literally) and scrolling through copious menus doesn't seem very ideal when I'm trying to keep something in the air. Is this a reasonable concern?

I'd hoped they had worked on getting prices down to compete with newer systems by other manufacturers. But instead they pack telemetry circuitry inside everything, jack up the price of a TX and come out with a whole proprietary "smart" line of products that also cost an arm and a leg. $300+ for a 6 channel TX? $100 for a 6-ch receiver? Ummmm....no.

Please advise... i habe a handful of planes, but have not flown more than a few packs in the last 2 years... my DX6i is ready to be retired. So far all of my planes have been 4 and 5 channels, but I'm hoping to add a couple 6-7ch warbirds soon, and get back into flying. Someday I may fly planes like the 1.5m P-51 or the 2.1m Cub, but don't forsee anything nitro/gas or more than possibly 8ch in the near future. I have decided not to get the DX8e unless I simply cannot afford an NX radio, in that case at least an 8e would get me back in the air. Would you say the NX8, for about $40 more would be a wise choice? I would likely get the larger battery eventually, so wondering if the overall additional cost of about $100 is worth getting the NX10, even if I would likely never use all 10 channels. So, on a budget, and with 4 and 5ch planes in my current hangar, and warbirds and aerobats in the 1.2m-1.5m range, and one larger Carbon Cub type plane on the wish list.....what radio do you suggest I try to pick up this winter? DX8e, NX6/8/10? I'm leaning towards an NX8...
