Quick correction - I misspoke about the required SD card - it's 16GB, class 6 or lower (not 62GB); also it's a micro USB charger (not USB-C!).

the part that connects to the computer is a regular size USB connector or so it shows in this video. The other end is micro.

Nice Im so glad you did this video and explained it all. I love the fact that you can use that part with the presets for the BNF and it imports the setting from horizon. that is a great tool they came up with!! I didnt know that bc I hate setting up the transmitter and that is awesome they did that!!! Very good video. Nice to see how you did the model transfer from your DX6 to the new NX6. One thing I would mention is that you should always turn your transmitter off before putting in an SD card and then turn it off before taking it out (as per a Spektrum tech rep). Keep up the good work!

I bought the NX 8 and I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit intimidated. It took me a little time and was a bit frustrating but there are some good tutorials on line. All in all though once you learn it they are awesome radios.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the Allen key is used to tension up or loosen the gimble tensions from the front of the Transmitter, without having to back off like you used to do with the older radios.

Thanks for the nice review! But I' ve missed if training connection among DX6 and NX6 could be possible? By cable of what? I mean connection among instructor and fellow..

Got the nx6 and immediately had an issue. Would not update via wifi. Apparently a lot of people have had this issue. Sd card was the only route to fix it to current update.

Awesome video During COVID shut down I purchased the NX6 and used it for the first time yesterday July 13, 2021 Like you I am come from a DX6 Can you explain how to change the palette to the dark that you have? Ideally, personally I'm still a do or die futaba. BUT, I ain't gonna spend +$1000.00 on the 14 channel futaba system if I can get anything similar with comparable features for $200!😁👍 (& I honestly like MY DX6e!)

Spektrum has come a long way within the last 16 years or so with their radios, first 2.4ghz radio i had was the dx5e the dx6i, and now i use the dx6e and now i have to buy the nx6

Way over priced and they are funneling you deeper into their eco system. The new multi brand radios are the way to go. And they are half the price for 16 ch.

My go-to TX is a Jumpter T-16, an it's a great radio, however... I find myself flying a lot of Horizon Hobby BNF planes lately, an I wouldn't bother with a Spektrum radio until now. The feature of having ALL of current BNFs from HH is what sold me...because I can be lazy. I STILL haven't figured out how to do a motor reverse on my Night Timber X with the Jumper. It SOUNDS simple, but of course, we all know it's not as it seems. Also the WiFi isn't exactly a must-have for me, but would make things quicker.

good video but I think I will stick to my trusty DX9.

I have received my NX6 and the only issue I have had is binding my existing AR6200 receivers, I have bound them both ways and all good, as soon as I have removed the bind plug and re plugged in the battery the receiver lights keep flashing as though it isn't bound. Funny when I bind them to my old DX6I I have no problems, your thoughts.

The allen wrench is also for adjusting the spring tension and the "notching" feel in the gimbals. Pages 47-48 in the manual.

@@old-rcplane-phart a little bit of a step feeling in the throttle is good for having a tactile feedback when throttling up and down. It also can help to avoid throttle changes while making yaw inputs from my experience.

Thanks for the review. I'm ready to buy either a DX6 or an NX6. The NX is about $100 more, which could be used towards mostly paying for my 4th plane. In the long run, would I be wiser to purchase the NX, or will the DX6 serve me well for several years to come?

Enjoyed your NX6 review. Much more to the point than many guys who post such stuff!!! I have the NX manual and it does not seem to mention swapping modes on the Tx. I am mode 1, all Tx's out of the factory seem to be mode 2. Can modes be swapped on the NX6? Thank you.

I will reply to my own question - I bought an NX6 a week ago. The mode switch is simply achieved using 6 screws, no need to take the Tx case apart .

Hey, not sure if you figured this out yet but the gimbal protectors you have would fit if you adjust the gimbal sticks. They are adjustable so you can make them longer or shorter.🙂

Can we use our NX6 for ground control. Also is air and ground frequency the same now.

Only the NX10 has the Hall Effect gimbals :-). So far I'm experiencing one big issue (NX6). Set the wing type as follows "Wing: 2 Ail 1 Flap". Now go to the RX Ports assignments and see if you can move the left & right Ailerons to a different ports. Never been an issue on my DX6. In fact, if you have flaps on it disappears from the options list if you try and move it too.

I ended up with the NX6 because my DX6e broke only after using it for less than a year. When I transferred over all my models I noticed that switches B and G are reversed on the NX6 from DX6..Im not sure why that is but I wondered if you noticed any changes in the switch positions also.

Another great instructive video, thanks. Question: I would like battery telemetry from an AeroScout S 1.1m BNF (ordered) that uses a Spectrum smart battery. If I use a new Spectrum NX radio, will I also have to add another gadget to the airplane for telemetry to work?

Not if the plane is listed as telemetry ready. Most of the Horizon bnf models are.

Would love to know how the micro USB cable and slot hold up over time. I'm interested in upgrading from a DX6, but concerned about that. Also, Is it harder to extract the micro SD card with no spring assist?

For a few dollars more would the nx8 be better if you want to use safe select and turbo reverse?

I know this is 3 years old now, but....My DX6 is on its last leg, so I need to think about upgrading soon. I had my DX6 repaired 2 years ago because the RF module stopped working. I have noticed this spring, my DX6 is having issues binding to now planes and the screen is flickering when it starts up. I do not think it is worth sending back in for repair again at this point. Your review is helpful, thank you.

Just an FYI, if you buy one of these used on Amazon, it may be registered to the previous owner. If that's the case, it might still be logged into the Spektrum site, or not. I don't know as I logged the previous owner out, used my own credentials to log into the Spektrum site and immediate got a message stating it's registered to someone else. Now I can't download the firmware updates that fixes the battery issue with the NX6.

Hi, new to your channel and just watched the nx6 vs dx6. Very well done. Did I understand you to say the nx6 is actually 7 channels?

It has 7 channels but one only works with SAFE. So for non safe models it's still a 6 channel.

Does it have the micro Draco 800mm on the BNF?

What I’d really like is a Spektrum Stick Radio for Surface vehicles such as Cars and Cars. I grew up using stick transmitters I raced 1:10 scale in 92/94 with old acoms and futaba attack with big aerial that could poke somebodys eye out, and a Box full of Crystals. Nobody makes them I hate using the Wheels Transmitters but that’s there is for Cars .

If the WHEEL was orientated like a real car then it would be better. I like the sticks better to steer too.

So, lets say I get this radio and a e-flite T-28 Trojan 1.2m with flaps and retracts. Can this radio handle every function of the plane including reverse thrust? So, Throttle, Rudder, Flaps, Ailerons, Elevator, Retracts, Throttle Cut, Safe Select, and Reverse Thrust?

Recently I have a new (first) NX6 transmitter. Unfortunately, English is not my best site, so I use "google translator" or if there are subtitles I force my language. Is it possible to return to the factory settings with one button (or two), in case of wrong configuration? I would like to configure "AeroScout S2 1.1m" (RTF) for my NX6 transmitter. Is there such a possibility? Thank You.

Still researching radios. I want to practice flying over the winter with X-Plane for iMac before I fly a real glider. Do I need the dongle or does connecting the USB charger/connector get me connected? I have a new iMac mini with M1 chip. The people from X-Plane have no idea if this will work with the NX6 or any RC TX for that matter, it will handle joysticks and other flight sim controls. IF it connects I will need to setup each control in the setup menu of X-Plane. I need to make sure it will connect with X-Plane because I really don't want to fly a real plane without practice. I live in the boonies and have farm fields around me so this is a perfect place for gliders. Not needing a dongle will save me some $$ I can use for batteries.

thanks for the review, information on these is still rather scarce. I'm suprised you never even mentioned the TBS Crossfire compatibility (especially after spending time on a worthless feature like screen colors). I'm also updating from the DX6 to an NX radio...but which one? All of my receivers are Crossfire so it's a huge interest and selling point. Crossfire on the old DX6 worked but is cumbersome. Thanks again.

Good day to you RC Girl, I’ve recently been watching your KZread channel & I really like how you are very informal about the products you review. It’s been a while since I’ve been back to the RC world but I miss it & it’s great to be back in the hobby. Thank you for your inspiration, I have an old Spektrum DX6 that I hardly use & having an IMac Computer is not the same as a Windows baised PC so updating firmware from different sites is very annoying. Do you think it’s worth purchasing a new open TX transmitter like the Radio Master 16, or would it be better to just stick with or upgrade my Spektrum radio?

If you find things annoying - don't get a RadioMaster - I have one, and just managed to bind it to a Spektrum plane - but it's not straight forward, changing from OpenTX to EdgeTX, settup up everything, working out how to bind, and manually configuring inputs/mixes/outputs. It's a really manual process. If you want things to be straight forward, stick with Spektrum. Some people complain about eco-systems, but eco-systems are good. Things work together and work well with little effort.

is it backward compatible with DSM2 receivers?

dx has wireless too. my dx8g2 does at least, what it does not have is all the bind and fly models. be honest. spektrum sent you this to review and keep, but for those that don't have that luxury; would you recommend they upgrade? i am going to stick with my dx gen 2 until nx is replaced. they are way too similar imho. Good video you just missed the talkin point of your headline, is this new nx worth upgrading.

I have the DX6 the only thing i really like is that you can bind it to pc. So i can keep mine and buy a dongle or buy this one🤔???

It will be very similar. The NX10 is where things start to change.

You didn't mention voice alerts. Does it have that? I have a DX6e and it does not so this would be an upgrade for me if the NX6 (or NX8) has that. The HH website says it does but I'm just double checking.

It does have voice alerts. You can even program in your own sounds and set those to a switch

I don't have TTevo in my bnf menu. Why? I've done the fware update. Clear as mud Spooktrum, from a rookie.

So for a plane with safe, I would still have 6 channels for control surfaces, with safe on the seventh?

Yes you'll need a class 6 or lower micro sd card, 16gb or less. Something like this will do the job (and even comes with an adapter to make it a regular sd card to use in a computer) amzn.to/2LeiPRM

If you use this with the Flight Simulator you don't need the Dongle - just use the USB Cable.??? I thought the Dongle was for a Wireless Connection - how would the Cable be an improvement.???
