I own a DX6e and bang for the buck, is a great value. I fly heli’s mostly, and so far, this radio has filled my needs. One point that needs to be mentioned, which applies to all Spektrum Transmitters is that the instruction manuals absolutely SUCK. When it comes to programming, you are pretty much on your own. I have spent many hours of trial and error, ( and several dollars in batteries ) to teach myself what and how things work. Much of the mixing is still a mystery, especially understanding the mix of stabilization. Much work needs to be done to publish a manual that explains all, and I do mean all of the features of these radios and how to use them.

It seems like the Spektrum guys should know this, but the DX6G2 does not have a diversity antenna. The diversity antenna is only in the DX6G3. That being said, I have had a DX6G2 for several years and it has been fantastic. Having the diversity antenna has never been an issue for me. I fly helicopters outside and drones inside/outside. The voice prompts are great and telemetry is very helpful. The gimbals are very good, but not the best I've ever felt. Keep in mind this is subjective. I also have a Frsky Taranis QX7S. This too is a great radio and at a similar price point. The biggest difference between the two is ease of use. If you buy a Horizon BNF product, the setup for your Spektrum radio comes in the manual and is a breeze to setup. With the Frsky, there is often a little research and trial and error involved. I often need to connect drones to the PC to make minor adjustments. This is primarily due to the fact that the Frsky compatible drones (like the Mobula7 or the Tinyhawk) come from 3rd parties. Setting up my Blade Inductrix FPV BL was quick and easy on the DX6. Once setup, they are both great radios. I do find the gimbals a bit smoother on the QX7S, but that is subjective. I own, fly, and enjoy products on both platforms. I have experimented with a DSMX module for the QX7S. After a bit of research and technical experimentation, I have it working well with a Blade FPV Pro. Getting it to work with multiple DSMX models looks to be more involved so having a DX6 seems like a much better route. The QX7S supports multiple Frsky models just fine (just like the DX6 supports multiple DSMX modules just fine). If you are going to get a Spektrum radio, I would go for the DX6 or DX8 over the "e" models myself. I fly all kinds of things on six channels without any issues. With helicopters I have room for gain or bail-out. With drones I have room for arm or flight mode. With an airplane you have room for flaps and gear. If you wanted more, say split ailerons with flaps and gear, you'll need an 8 channel. With the Horizon Pd Commander (which I've flown) you have flaps and mode all working fine on a six channel. It's also worth noting that Horizon support is excellent. I've had the occasion to use is a number of times over the years and it never disappoints.

I have been hunting around for an answer to a question, and I cannot seem to find a current answer. The Immersion RC Vortex 285 used to require a CPPM cable to function with a Spektrum receiver. Since the quad came out, though, there is now the quad receiver with diversity. Does it still need the special cable or does it work without it?

Hi, I'm thinking of getting back into model flying again after a very lengthy break due to a life changing accident. My question is this: i understand that the 'e' models have the mechanical switch for mode 1& 2 gimbal switching but i cannot find any info on the other transmitters DX6 and DX8. This is important as i need to switch the modes over but am not dexterous enough to take Tx's apart to swap out innards. Many thanks. Also the kit i'm thinking of is the Carbon cub s+, purely for the reason it supports Safe+ and all that good stuff to help me fly one handed, so my next question is that of channel numbers if i progress on to adding the flaps once confident. Is there a way of utilising one of the DX6(e) other channels ratther than opting for an 8/9 channel Rx?

I'm looking for a new radio, have 6ch, going to get 8... Throttle, aileron, elevator, rudder, flaps, retracts, safe or flight modes, there's 7... the new NX6 seems to address this... But, with biplanes and trying to do nice clean scale aerobatics routines...(I hope to one day do some routines timed to music)... mixing two separate channels for ailerons can be handy, for differential, so it rolls nice and true... Adding bomb drop, or... for warbirds... adding choke, kill switch, smoke, for larger gassers...? I think 8 will be more than enough for quite some time for me, but I think at least 1 of my next 3 planes would have me wanting more than 6ch... My DX6i that I preordered when they were very first anounced, has given me over a decade... hope to get close to that out of the next radio, so I think I might get a new NX8 when spring comes around... but still looking at the DX8 as I'd like to fly soon, amd my DX6I now has 2 broken switches...

Hi Guys, I recently purchased a NX6 Transmitter, according to the manual I should be able to bind my existing AR6200 receivers which are DSM2. The problem I have is that the receivers bind fine with both methods, but as soon as I remove the bind plug and I energise the transmitter and receiver, all I get are slow flashing lights on the receiver, which to me shows that there is a problem. Where as if I use my old DX6I the receiver binds faultlessly and I have no problems at all, can you help. I do know that the EU model want bind with DSM2 receivers, I live in New Zealand.

I have a dx6 gen2 so your case may be different, however I just updated it for the first time since purchase a few years ago. I'm fairly positive there have been intervening patches in the meantime, and mine has updated successfully straight to the most recent without attempt at the older patches. The DX6E is as simple as sliding the switch on the back! The switch is mechanical though, not electrical! So in other words its kind of a tough switch to slide back and forth so to speak. In your case needing only mode 1 this is definitely the way to go in my opinion! I've owned the DX6E and the DX8E, both very good TX's. I've also owned both the DX6 and the DX8 TX's but I've never needed mode 1, that being said I'm not exactly sure how to go from one to the other or if it's even possible.

No, you won't be able to do that because the receiver inside your mini apprentice can only be bound to one transmitter at a time, however, you could set up a buddy box system with the 2 transmitters, so you can take control of the plane at any time.

What I recommend you do is forget the Dxe and bind both the timber and the apprentice to the dx6 as it is much more advanced, and you will enjoy using it a lot more. Your daughter can still learn to fly easily with the buddy box system using the dxe as a slave transmitter, which also enables you to buddy box the timber if you want to. The dxe is solely designed as a budget, simple transmitter, so you should use it only as a backup or slave.

dx6i has some limitations to the newer dx6 g2/3 & dx6e . Early models was only dsm2, later models came with dsmx and for a period of time you could upgrade to dsmx (no software update possible). Only 10 model memory, no voice, only wired trainer ,AA batteries, no backlight (mods exist) . It does work with asx3, but it is a little tricky. There are no flightmode switch, but instead you can use the flaps as FM-switch, however it is only a 2 position switch but there is a trick that involves the SW switch and mixing to get all 3 flightmodes. dx6i is a good tx, but is on the verge of being obsolete.

I’m thinking about getting a dx6 to go with my blade qx and Inductrix . I’ve never understood what quads are compatible with different transmitters . I hear guys talking about , “ this quad is this protocol and that quad is that protocol “ , but I’ve never seen it spelled out . I’ve got about 10 different quads . It’s a pain to always having to drag around different transmitters . Can someone explain this to me or give me reference material . Also is the dx6 still a solid choice . I’m looking for a transmitter that is easy to put the information into for binding . I’ve got a jj1000 , Alias , x6058 , cheerson cx10 , x7 aircraft , nano qx , blade Inductrix , Symantec x4 , v252 and a hubson x4 . Looking to get into FPV flying in the near future.

It's a supplemental receiver that greatly improves loss of signal and signal fades. Its a great enhancement. Just mount it away from other electronic components and put the antennas in different phase positions. IE: stand one set of antennas vertically and the receiver antennas horizontally. You'll be pleased with the performance.

Such a shame as the instructions do not match what is on the radio. I fly mode one so the mode switch was changed on the back of the radio but the software has to be changed as well. Thereby lies the problem, as what is in the instructions does not corelate with what comes up on the screen when trying to change the software to match. All attempts so far have completely failed. Dsmx is at least 10 years old. Yeah gotta keep changing things. Sure thing. Continually changing would be like every other year. This is improving over a decade time. Not really crazy. Anyway the x is multiple frequencies and you guessed it dsm2 is only 2 frequencies. While dsm was a single frequency. Hardly glossing over.

Simply stated better electronics inside better gimbals. More programming. And the voice function is a plane saver. I fly sailplanes and often at over 800 ft. So looking down at the radio and loosing line of sight with the aircraft could be bad. Voice alerts on switch positions, time left on timer all without losing line of sight.

There are 3rd party rx’s such and lemon and orange, but you’re probably asking why you can’t buy a Futaba or frsky rx. You could ask other brands why they don’t directly support spektrum rx’s either. Outside of supporting a competitors product, that seems very problematic. Read the below link. William Hoenstine Maybe rephrase your question. Are you asking why radios aren’t universally compatible with any receiver since they use the same 2.4ghz frequencies? There are some links I came across somewhere on the protocols used such as dsmx, faast, s-fhss and accst. (spektrum, futaba and frsky)... Or you’re just trolling.... I’m also not associated spektrum or horizon hobby if that’s what you’re implying. Just another rc user.

I'm trying to get into RC aircraft and I've done a bunch of research on transmitters and what would work for me. I've come to the conclusion of buying the Jumper series transmitters. They are backwards compliant to many of the broadcast protocols (OpenTX), offers up to 12-16 channels, can customize LCD, sounds and other functions (programming skills required), and are considerably less than comparable transmitters. Why should I choose a firmware locked Spekrum (or any other) transmitter for more than double the price?
