I would recommend that you put your hair up more in a bun or a high ponytail when operating the wringer washer. I own one and have gotten my hair caught before. It can be very painful and a bit scary. I worry about equipment failure on the emergency release button on a machine that old.

I wish they still made them.

before power companies strung lines across the country (in the 1940s in my area) washers had a gasoline engine . many were then converted to electric motors . might find one to convert back to gas , if you wanted .

My mom lived on a farm in eastern Colorado during the 1930's, that did not have electricity and she told me that they had a gasoline powered wringer washing machine. They used Coleman lanterns for lighting.

My stepfather had a Speed Queen wringer washer in his family house in the country, it worked great but do not mess around with that wringer! It could flatten a coconut if got near it! We had to bring water to the house from down the hill at the Shady Hill Spring they build a house around it with a pipe where the water ran non stop! Even through the winter, we would drive the Ford Station Wagon with all seats folded down and back tail gate dropped down! And we filled every bucket, cooler anything that held water drive back to the house to do the laundry, flush toilets, wash dishes loved living at that country house on the Fox River! That Speed Queen was a beast! And that wringer could squeeze the soul out of the Devils wife!

I got one of those washers but it has Montgomery Ward for the label instead of Speed Queen. It was one of the last ones made in the early 1980s.

I had to learn to use a wringer washer when I was six years old. That's been over fifty years ago. Because I had to help my mom do laundry. My mom used a ringer washer the whole time I was growing up. Then when me and my wife got married we used a ringer washer for 34 years. Here in Missouri ya get your clothes pretty dirty and the ringer washers get your clothes a lot more cleaner than automatic washers do. We have a 1956 Maytag and a 1937 Maytag ringer washers and only replace the motors on both other than that the old ringer washers just keeps on going keeps on washing your clothes. Me and the wife are in our 60s and the two old ringer washer will be go long after we are gone.

And I must say it does make my heart Happy to see that some of the younger generation is using some of the things from the older days that is older ones had to use. Like I said in my comment before them old ringer washers will keep on washing clothes. The one thing that I didn't mention in the comment had a must have forgot about it but every so often you will have to put gear lube in the gearbox and you will have to also put gear lube in the ringer shaft to keep everything lubed up and keep it working. There should be on the gearbox a fill port which be just a little small hole that you feel the gearbox bye and it should be one on the ringer shaft also it will have like a plug on the hole you just pull the plug and then fill it up and then put the plug back in. Also you don't ever want to use Grease in the gearbox or in the ringer shaft cuz Grace will come up and cause your ring of washer not to operate like it should so remember gear lube only and are you keep 80 90 gear lube in my ring of washers gearboxes and ringer shaft.

@@daltongangoffgrid9376 y'all you're welcome like I said they're on the gearbox there's a refill plug and there should be a refill plug on the ringer shaft. Like I said I use 80 90 gear lube but you can also use a lighter weight gear lube and if you use the synthetic gear lube it will last a lot longer. Like I said me and my wife we've had our ringer washers for 36 years and never had any problems out of them only had to put new motors on them and they really don't require a whole lot of maintenance. And they don't have to be lubed with the gear lube all that often you can get at least a good 20 years out of it before you would ever have to reloop the gearbox and the ringer shaft. And like I said I'm glad to see some of the younger generation going back to some of the old ways of doing things. You ought to get one! 😁 You have to be patient when looking for a decent one. There are many being sold but a lot of them are “yard ornaments.” We love ours! God bless!

New to your channel- Found it when researching wringer washes. I am using a Sears Kenmore. No idea how old. It belonged to my mother-in-law on the farm. We are using it until our septic is repaired and YES I also drained out my soapy water! It did a great job once I got used to wringing out clothes and putting them back into the washer. Sure beats going to the laundramat and spending all that money. ~ Diane

Lol We also have some oil lams but with our very active kids, we decided that battery operated lights would be much safer. Haha We just recharge the batteries. I'm sure I will have questions as to how you practice modern homesteadig. Your family has many tools and such that we did not have, but as you know, by God;s grace you rise to the challenge! Get yourself a spin dryer to use after the wringer. It will pull more water out .

I bought one new in 1971 wish I still had it .

Crazcompact - I have my mother-in-law's Sears Kenmore to use while our septic field is repaired. It works great! And yes, it is more work, but doable once you get in the grove. Pauline had four farm sons and her husband. I can't imaging putting overalls through the wringer :-O I would STOP at the buckles and REVERSE the wringer! ~ Diane

Can you still find on sale on this in the states. Use it when I was in Jordan 1984.

Where do you store it when you are not using it. I have no room in my basement or garage for one. I have a patio, but no porch. Would a waterproof cover work if leaving it outside. Like the kind you cover outdoor furniture with. My parents had an old ringer washer, and back when we had the Agnus flood back in 1972, my dad rigged it up so it would pump the water from the flooded basement out the back door with a long garden hose.

I wish I had one.

Yep! Sorry for the delayed response. My phone doesn’t notify me when someone responds to a message. I’m working on it tho. Hopefully I fixed that tonight. 🙏 So, we have been in our new home for one week today! And we have been using our Speed Queen in the garage just fine 💛 Hoping to use it on our solar set up after we get it moved up here. 😁

I don’t but I do try to keep a tarp over it. I don’t always remember to cover it lol but I think keeping it covered would help it last longer. We are even thinking about finding a grill cover that would fit over it because the tarp does tend to fly off in strong winds. Lol

My grandma has a Speed Queen DR5 Dryer. But when her GE washer Dies, She might get The Matching washer (TC5) . I don't know But We Will See!

Your rinse tubs need to use turned to where use can use both tubs for double rinse.I been use in these washers over 20years

I don’t use hot water very often but when I do, I just heat up some water on the stove. Or, I guess we could even get our hot water out of our sink. We use a small propane hot water heater in our tents. 💛 Hope this helps! God bless

Make sure you turn the drain to off before unplugging. I guess it’s harder on the motor to start it back up with it on. And don’t leave your towels in too long! 😂 We don’t have the most top notch towels and I forgot about them being in the washer one day and they agitated for about 40 minutes... we had a lot of fuzz. Lol

I heard 1.Fills with water (5-15min depending on water pressure/stream speed)..3. Has to.load laundry in washer(5 approx min) to pre-rinses heavy dirt off. 4.Wring out through rollers (probably takes 1-3min each article of clothing/ item *15-20min. 5.drain Washer of dirty water...rinse and refill washer with soapy water (10-15min) 6.put wrung out dirty clothes back in washer with soapy water. 7 RUN WASH CYCLE 15min 8. Wring out soapy/ clean laundy. 9. Rinse tub and then FILL the rinse tub with fresh clean water (*10min) 10. Rinse soapy washer out, add water and softener to Washer. 11 Reverse/wring clothes into softener rinse water (*5-15min) them agitate 15min more. 12 Wring out clothes again (*10-15min). 12. Take clothes to clothes lines to line dry clothes, wait till dry 15-1hr/2hrs depending on thickness and wind/weather/sun/temp. I'd say more like 3 hours work per load

PLEASE tie your hair back. Also be careful if you're wearing long sleeves. Don't overload the washer--the clothes should move around freely. You will find the clothes will come out much cleaner.

Looks as though your using to much soap. When you have that much suds to much soap is being used. Looks as though you need to be doing more raise water loads to get rid of all that soap in your clothes.

Suds savers. Used to pump water into the big wash sinks. They could then reuse water on another load. Amazing and conserving.

Why couldn’t you use a traditional top loader like from the 80’s? Wouldn’t it be easier?

Such a waste of time and energy! A modern machine (any front loader the last 10 years) could do much more laundry at once using way less water and electricity (and no danger to digits) as well a spin out that water to really cut time on hang drying. But yeah, yeah I know, clicks. Watch those fingers!

Yeah so right before this machine we had a brand new energy efficient washer. That was a piece of junk this machine has stood the test of time it still has all the original parts on it. More energy efficient! Lol. You have to be kidding me. You want a washer that sprinkles your clothes and just barely even gets them wet how do they even clean. They use way more power than this machine as well. The only other way you could be more efficient is to wash them in a creek. Technology is not always a good thing!
