Matt Cameron is a beast of a drummer, too. He wrote this song, too! Cornell's pipes alone are always impressive, but the musicianship in the band in general is so good and I'm glad you devote time to each player.

I have to say this is pretty much my favorite Soundgarden album. There are so many good songs on it. One song I was listening to from one of their other albums that I think David needs to react who is never named that’s off of the down on the upside album. That is a fast little punky number that I think he would enjoy.

Matt Cameron had a lot of these odd time signature songs but he doesn't go overboard and clarifies the measure of the bar. It's not complex but very fun to play sort of like refrigerator car by spin doctors (which were recently spammed by family guy doing parodies of Oscar films and all of them being 90s films).

I absolutely love this song, it's one of my favs off superunknown. And just to a little note on what DH said about Chris' vocals, this definitely isn't his strongest performance, but I think it does a fantastic job at showing just how much control Chris had over his vocals.

Love the slight vibes of eastern music in Soundgardens deeply grungey sounds. 15/8 is just 5/4 like 12/8 is a slow 4/4, so rather typical Soundgarden :D As others said, its a song to really let your darker side 'light up'. That's why I love Soundgarden in general: Instead of being down, sad, beaten; I can listen to good music and get some energy and rage against whatever's bugging me (often enough myself).

It's always Matt Cameron on all of their albums. Chris Cornell was the original drummer, and they had someone named Scott Sundquist early on, but Matt's been drumming from near the beginning. I love him best in Soundgarden, but I heard in Pearl Jam's upcoming album he'll be playing more interesting like he does in Soundgarden.

Not to be ironic, but it’s still my fave track from that album. I realize it is slow and ponderous, but its dark feel and tone is what makes me a fan. I know that Chris wrote both the music and the lyrics. And I still believe the title is basically a dark metaphor for the end of the Seattle scene or “grunge” as it’s always been labeled. That could’ve been some type of self-destructive idea, or a wish to do away with a music scene that might’ve felt out of control, I don’t know. Like a lot of the songs on that record it leans towards the dark side. Still so very glad I had music like this to grow up on.

I love the Sabbathesque descending note riff in the verses. One way to get me to like a song is throw in a slow, doom like riff like the verses in this song has. Plus, Cornell’s yell/scream at the end of his line in the chorus. I love that.

Great review, as always! That's the one Kim, who wrote the song, told us was a waltz! It was never a favorite, but as a fan I always enjoyed the song as one more peculiar Soundgarden tune, quite unique, slightly odd in their approach, which appeals so much to my ears, but when I heard Kim saying in an interview that it was a waltz, that's when it became really interesting to me. Let's do a waltz this time, ok? And don't forget to bring the most depressing and foreboding lyrics you can to go with it! Such a Soundgarden thing to do, lol

One of my favorites and adore this song so much. The live versions are better but this one has great production and the textures pan around deceptively. The main lick is very Black Sabbath like. Steady yet a heavy riff. Matt is soooo amazing. He’s not a all over the place drummer but he works to make his drum riffs so perfect he can. Over all the emotional feel of this song kills.
