Interesting how no one comments about how reliable Sony phones are. These phones are built to last, and receive support for way longer than Samsung, LG, Xiomi..etc.

i mean OS updates. Not claiming they are the best, but definitely better than Samsung and LG. Try one, you will have a better and consistent experience over a longer period of time.

My phone which is now 3 years old has survived drops, thrown, a lot of heat and the front screen no cracks (suprised as it was thrown) back glass cracked replaced twice. MicroSD slot broken from being thrown. Other than that everything works. Well except for NFC which I accidentally broke the connector replacing the back glass. It's an Xperia Z2

It generally isn't that good. Sony makes some of the best camera, but they don't know how to process the image right. I was surprised too until I picked one up and realised that my 3 year old Samsung flagship took better photos.

Android Authority should stop reviewing sony phones!!! Sony deserves better review than this biased review

That's really surprising how opinions on this camera can be so different. Other reviewers praised this camera saying it's as great as the S9 one, or that they've finally succeed in managing their sensor... Also, that's quite funny that you're "complaining" about the fact that this phone "only" has QC 3.0 as the Galaxy phones are stuck at QC 2.0...

Galaxy phones have built adaptive charge over QC 2.0. Please do some research. So it's technically a proprietary tech and is much faster than the qc3. ( Though the downside to this is that of the charger gets spoilt you need to buy Samsung's own charger)

Nitin Kumar I know that, but why again using a proprietary tech? If something goes weong with the charger I have to buy another one from Samsung. And QC 3.0 would have been a great choice over 2.0, as it is better for the battery. I need a phone that can charge quickly, but I also want its battery to last and in this regards QC 3.0 is better.

Liion B yes. But Samsung's phones have the best battery degradation in the industry. Holding 85% of charge after 3 years. So even though you're point is right in theory, Samsung users don't really need to worry about it.

Either you purposely wanted to bash the camera or you don't know how to take pictures. All the other reviews hails the camera, especially the level of details it retains in lowlights (yes, with noise) despite f2.0/EIS. Bad review.

What details? It smears everything over the place even in bright daylight, just like the Xz premium that i had (and every other sony phone). Go on their written review and look at the photos in full size in their google album. Crop in on the people on the beach for example. And no, you can`t fix that in manual mode. The only thing you can do there in daylight to prevent the photo from getting even more horrible, is to turn off HDR, because that mode (called "backlight" in superior auto) makes the quality even worse than it already is by adding even more smearing and noise and a pinkish/reddish tint. Cameras on sony phones are horrible, there`s no way around it.

MrPopular22 So you had XZ premium but you didn't used xz2. XZ2 uses Qualcomm isp for image processing with multi frame noise reduction. visit GSMARENA to checkout the difference in produced details between xzpremium/xz1 and xz2. If you're not aware of this, it's fine. I agree that sony phones image processing is not that great, but it isn't bad either. It is among the top dogs but lacks some surprise factor (like, hdr+ in pixels). But xz2 is more improved than It's predecessors.

That`s a shot in the best lightning conditions possible for a camera, even a budget xiaomi phone would get a better picture there. They could use a Nasa supercomputer for image processing, it`d be still horrible. And why do i need the XZ2 to see that the processing still sucks when there are enough photos in full size on the net (including those provided by Android authority?) By the way: I have actually seen lots comparisons between the XZ1 and XZ2 on 4pda, a huuuuge russian smartphone forum where people post pics in full size from their devices. The XZ2 pics suck just as much as the XZ1 ones, with the only difference that they toned down the noise reduction a little bit in the XZ2/XZ2c, resulting in a shot that looks sharper at times. All the other sony stuff like red tinting, pitch-black shadows, useless hdr, smearing and noise is still abundant. I`d never sell my XZ Premium if not for the camera, because as a phone i liked it more than every other i ever had, and i had tons of phones :)

No personal offense but I DON'T generally enjoy this guy as a tech reviewer. He just doesn't do well with his overall delivery. And does mildly annoying things. Like for example how he ended this review. Talking..... very.... Slowly.... doesn't .... really....add....any.... relevance.... Or....emphasis..... Its irritating and silly....

Talking slowly at the end was to emphazise "They....are....your....source....for....everything....Android". Its just to point out that this is one of the best Android Channels out there. Thats NOT a specific problem this guy has. They want this remark at Every Video.

I own an s8+ but I really like the xz2. The software hardware and screen seems pretty good

I don't know if you hate sony so much, yeah i don't like the design not to mention that they removed the headphone jack but the camera isn't that bad as you say so. It actually improved compared on the previous models.

Honestly the design is slowly growing on me. If the bulge/curve on the back was smaller and the fingerprint scanner and camera were repositioned, this phone would be perfect!

I didn't know qualcomm has a feature called quckcharge....... Anyway a very biased review :(

The phone is fun and unique in many aspects. Also, as an owner of a Samsung Note 8 I could easily get used to the fingerprint scanner and quickly the touching it without smudging the camera lens. So I bet I could easily get used to the fingerprint scanner on this XZ2 that is exactly in the middle of the phone, easier to hit it with either index fingers.

This review totally sucks, 5mp selfie camera not enough for social media, are you mad bro? Ever seen a 5mp photo on any social media platform? The are all scaled down lol.

The XZ Premium had dual front facing speakers as well.

Up until now I have had mostly Sony phones, so I am a huge Sony fanboy, but this is the first time I don't like the Sony flagship. No headphone jack, the new design is egg-like, just like 90% of the other smartphones out there, instead of the stylish square-like design it used to have. I hope they do better with the next generations...

I love this phone, best move ever by Sony. Who cares about the headphone jack? Just use Sony's LDAC technology. For those who don't like the wireless solution just use the adapter.

I personally liked sony's side mounted fingerprint. I wished sony would have made something like xz1 but with bezel-less design. One thing about the camera app is, it is very simple and easy to use.

It's a phone there naturally squared and I actually enjoyed the squared Xperia line

Great review. But Sony has had front firing stereo speakers since the Xperia Z2 in 2014, fyi. They never added it up.

What’s the charger model

Hate it that they changed placement of fingerprint sensor (to accommodate USA market mostly), and loving every other bits of it. Can’t care less about lack of headphone jack it’s 2018 people there is a technology called Bluetooth audio. Really solid performance with the 6gb ram variant.

as with all slow no it only looks good outdoors where you have direct sunlight so I do not know why you sound shock that it was bad indoors. it still looks way better than all the other phones

I have Xperia XL, and until now it works very fine especially the camera. So how come this camera is so bad on your review?

Despite this review citing the camera to be a disappointment, it isn't bad. I'd say is at or near Galaxy S9 territory and that's still something considering Samsung gave their phone a very wide aperture and a physical shutter lens to allow for adjustable aperture between F/1.5 to F/2.4. Despite that however, I still wouldn't own it. That camera and FPS location on the back is an ergonomic nightmare and the camera software is as okay as it's been for a few years now.

If we have Huawei P20 body but Sony software that would be awesome

I wouldn't mind the Sony Xperia Z5 premium but a lot of companies are riding on their name not what they produce

Man I'll tell ya. The phone shape and speakers are much like my Moto X pure,,and I envy the 4,64 RAM and ROM, and I wouldn't mind having a finger print reader,,but thats about it. I have 1440x2560 high resolution screen, a nice grippy basketball material back and though I only have a 808 chipset, that s fine for a nice 5.7, 2k screen, nice speakers phone I paid 265 bucks for. When mid-range phone's bring back those features,,, I'll take a look.

Okay Now After Watching Reviews from Couple of weeks. I got this XZ2. May be because I'm a die hard Sony fan. And just didn't wanted to skip this device just because of negative comments. After using XZ premium and XZ1 and XZs. This looks ugly. So much that looking at the back making me angry that what Sony have done. But build quality. Screen and front looks beautiful. Finger print is in worse place and not the quickest one. I probably forward this to someone. And happy with my XA2 and XZ1 currently.

This guy is usually pretty good, but this review is bad, and he went a bit too harsh on the main camera on the XZ2. I don't rate it as the best camera of 2018, but certainly not a trash one.

Shouldn't cost $800. Price too high. Camera too questionable. No headphone jack. A blatant rip of the HTC U11. If I had an XZ1, I'd keep it.
