You do know that a year here equals a month in Sonic's world? So if S1-S3K all happen in a month or 2 that means S4 could've happened in the same month of S3&K or the beginning of the next month. So Little Planet returned the next month after Sonic CD.

Why is it people have such a hard grasp on Generations, Mania and Forces' placement? Short version: As time travel has yet to be explored in real life, one theory states that changing the past can create a new timeline with a new future. Generations altered the past by tearing Classic out of his time, Mania is the new resulting timeline. Long Version: As stated above, the Multiverse theory states that altering the past creates a new timeline with a different future. When Dr. Eggman in Generations ripped Classic Tails, Sonic, Metal Sonic and Eggman out of their time periods, it drastically altered the past. Modern Sonic and Tails never went through Generations' events, which is why Tails and Sonic remark on being confused as to what is going on. On that same idea, Modern S,T&K never went on Mania's adventure, hence why they don't remember the Phantom Ruby. When Eggy took the Classics out of the classics, it created a new timeline where it _did_ happen. Henceforth, Classic Eggman dropped the Robotnik moniker, and Classic Sonic began learning new moves (drop dash). Sonic also got an opportunity to fix a past mistake in Mania, creating a Good Future in Stardust Speedway, while Generations shows that Modern created a Bad Future. Whether or not YOU believe in the Multiverse theory or not, that is what SEGA is going with, and is canon. And before anyone brings it up; *Generations is canon*. Being fanservice and an anniversary title does not mean it isn't. By that logic, Mania wouldn't be canon either, and therefore Forces. Generations is referenced multiple times in Forces, and the group _and Eggman_ recognize Classic Sonic, and he recognizes them.

You sort of forgot to include the Sonic Advance franchise (From the Game Boy Advance) and the Sonic Rush games into the complete story timeline. Anyway, great video! I think Sega and developer Dimps really should consider remastering the Sonic Advance Trilogy and develop an HD Collection for the Nintendo Switch. Those games are somewhat overlooked by many fans even though all three were very successful and critically acclaimed on the GBA.

(Everything in Sonic 06 was undone at the end) And yeah, it's hard to say where Advance 1 and 2 belong in the timeline, but I guess they probably happened between Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. Sonic Advance 3, on the other hand, is set after Sonic Battle, which I think is set after Shadow the Hedgehog.

Little planet does not self destruct, it simply teleports away until the specific time of the year where it hovers over Never Lake(which according to Sonic Mania is reletivly close to Angel Island as seen with the background presense in Lava Reef zone)

A good video and timeline overall, but I think there is one big error in this timeline, and that. . .is Sonic Mania. Sonic Mania is actually NOT canon to the Sonic timeline that we know from heart. The game actually takes place in the classic era. . .but in a slightly alternate timeline. A timeline that was created after the events of Sonic Generations. Even though all of this isn't flat out stated, the interactions with Modern Sonic & Tails and Classic Sonic in Sonic Forces does imply that. So thanks to Generations, the timeline has split itself in two. Just because CD isn't on the freaking elevator, doesn't make it non-canon. Bean, Bark, and Fang all show up in Mania. But since Triple Trouble and Fighters aren't on the elevator, that apparently makes them non-canon??? NO! Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles are all on the elevator because they are all part of the main Sonic the Hedgehog Quadrilogy/Trilogy/whatever the hell you wanna call it. Also, where's the proof that someone in Sega said that CD wasn't canon in Mania.

Sonic Mania is from another dimension. Its not supposed to be put in timeline. The classic sonic who got transported in sonic force is from Sonic Mania. Whereas, Sonic boom is also from another dimension so of course its not mentioned in the timeline.

pretty nice vid! id like fr rush and advance series to be included, as well as 06 in further detail, and as a side note, i think black knight comes after unleashed because you promise amy a date in unleashed and then go on that date (or try to) in knight.

There is no one official timeline, in terms of the games, due to the series being constantly re-booted and throwing formally established lore, events, and character development out the window with reckless abandon. Sonic 06 was a reboot of the series, Sonic Unleashed was a reboot of the series, and Sonic Colors was a reboot of the series. Not to mention that from Colors onward there was very little consistency from game to game; even Sonic Mania retcons the placement of locations established by the Genesis games (though this technically could be explained as an illusion created by the Phantom Ruby).

My bad, after reviewing the wiki, it would seem that my quarrel with Mania's zone layout is explained via the Phantom Ruby. I was under the impression that Mania was stating that all zones in it were located on the same island instead of their original locations. Turns out, the player is simply teleported to different islands and even other dimensions via the Phantom Ruby. I should have also put Adventure 1 down as another marker for a reboot of the series, as the SA1 to Shadow the Hedgehog continuity definitely deviated from some elements established in the prior games. Again, my bad!

Anyway the answer is quite simple, they didn't take 3d blast into consideration while making it, they just cared about the main games and never gave though to how does this makes sense because who does. You could consider this a plot hole in a way, just because people don't like a game doesn't mean is not canon, I'd argue that because some people don't like 3d blast they'll argue that game isn't canon either. If you want to make a connection between the two either sonic 3d blast happens after sonic 4 and green eyes sonic is just a stylist choice that you shouldn't take as a reference to say it's not the same sonic or 3d blast takes place between 4 and 3, the only thing that sega needs to do id clarify, but that'll never happen because who cares about these games, clearely not sega, but that doesn't mean they aren't canon.

Sonic Unleashed takes place BEFORE Black knight, its implied that the date Sonic misses from black knight is the same date that you can accept from amy by talking to her through the course of unleashed.

Mania is another timeline from the modern timeline.

Nice Mic Quality, though I would say this is the ESSENTIAL Timeline as opposed to the Complete.

You forgot the advance series, rush, colors ds, sonic 4, sonic, runners, dash, chronicles, battle, the fighters, segasonic, knuckles' chaotix, etc...

Knuckles Chaotix is canon since that's when we first meet Team Chaotic in the series and in Advance series we first meet Cream, the Rush games first introduce Blaze(wasn't 06 that did it), the Rivals series gave Silver a reason for being in the series since 06 was erased. Colors DS is different since that has a different final boss is a Super Sonic final boss fight and there being different Wisps.

shadic4566 but the riders series is just like sonic boom, a paralel dimension. But I agree with you, the advance, rush and rivals are part of the main story and should be included in videos like that.

Eventually you should do one with all Mario Kirby Zelda and Sonic and all the characters of smash all together in one timeline!

Sonic Unleashed may not be one of the best entries, but imo had one of the best stories in the Sonic series. Probably only being rivaled by Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

Why not just kill Eggman and be done with it? lol

Ohhh don't you just LOVE amazing timelines? I do. Wait a minute... What about ENCORE DLC in Sonic Mania? (Otherwise known as Sonic Mania Plus) When did Sonic get out of the portal in the jungle? Oh and also where do the 'new' characters come from? So many questions... I wonder if anyone actually managed to fit in SONIC BOOM rather than just saying 'Nope!' 😂 But really apart from that great vid dude.

For people who are confussed, theres 2 dimensions the modern (main) and the classic, after sonic generations, when classic sonic went back to the past it created the "classic" dimension, so sonic 1 happened all the way up to forces is in the modern dimension (main) but also sonic 1 happend all the way to mania wich takes place place after sonic 3 in the classic dimension as this is a new dimension with a whole new timeline going forward from mania

Now time eater messed up with time-space continuum altering the past even bringing erased timelines like crisis city. Even in sonic forces eggman said cs was "the guy from another dimension"

@Cool Loser 1) Still time travel. According to the multiverse theory altering the past create a alternate timeline with a different future so when Time Eater ripped off cs,ct,ms and robotnik from their timeline it changed the past

CD takes place after 3&K. One good reason is why would Eggman revive Metal Sonic for Mania and 4 if it was placed here? Wouldn't he have just made another Sonic robot like Silver and Mecha Sonic? The reason why he didn't revive those is because Metal is the best Sonic clone robot there is. And probably more memorable. And what about Tails? First off there's a game called Tails' Skypatrol, in which could've been taking place during the same time as CD. Thus, making it Sonic 1 - Sonic 2 - Sonic 3&K - Sonic CD/Skypatrol - Mania - 4

Classic Sonic originally WAS Sonic's past self but since the Time Eater went back in time when it wasn't supposed to, it caused a timeline split

Ummm Wut "None of the character remember the events of the Sonic Generations we all played." So then why is THIS change never mentioned? Sonic Generations was originally meant as Sonic teaming up with his past self. But since Classic Sonic saw things that he wasn't supposed to see (i.e. locations and people from the future), it caused a timelineshift

again, on the panel which was the last time people asked it after the release of sonic mania and forces they confirmed it was the same sonic, just that modern sonic is literally young adult sonic and classic sonic is more of a kid version of him sonic team always had a problem of deciding when something is a diffrent dim. or just the past or future of the same dim.

Anything that can time travel can create a timeline split. Ever heard of Multiverse theory? Ever seen the Zelda timeline? Link, a 10 year-old boy manages to create TWO timelines! One when he warns Hyrule about Ganondorf's attempt to retreive the Tri-Force and one that is set 7 years later and Ganondorf took over Hyrule but was FINALLY defeated by Link. Hell, want another example? Trunks in Dragonball Z! Even though he goes back in time to warn the Z Fighters about the androids, he still needs to defeat the androids in his timeline. -Hell. DBZ Abridged managed to explain this whole thing. Thanks Gohan- Think about. If Classic Sonic, Tails, and Eggman are supposed to be Modern Sonic, Tails, and Eggman's past selves, then how come the Modern counterparts don't already remember the events of Sonic Generations? Simple. They don't. Cuz it NEVER HAPPENED TO THEM YET. It's even FURTHER proven in Sonic Forces when Classic Sonic -Who is CONFIRMED that he appeared because of Mania's Finale- is called by both Tails and Eggman as "a Sonic from another dimension" and later is confirmed by Modern Sonic to be the same Classic Sonic from Generations when he says "It's been generations since I saw you." Classic Sonic then nods in agreement, basically saying that he recognizes Modern Sonic as well. Need more proof? During the climax of Sonic Generations, Classic Eggman replies to Classic Tails by saying "No one calls me that anymore" when Classic Tails calls him Doctor Robotnik. But in the Modern Timeline, this doesn't happen until Sonic Adventure. Even then, it was just an insult that Sonic and his friends used to taunt Robotnik. By Sonic Adventure 2, he gave up on the name Robotnik and permanently went as Eggman. Why would Eggman change his name from Robotnik to Eggman to immediately changing it back to Robotnik while Eggman is used as an insult until Adventure 2. Shall I keep going? Cuz I can keep going

Actually Shadic4566 is right the time eater did not cause a split in the timeline he just erase it and created little pocket dimensions with locations from different points in time. Classic Sonic return to his timeline at the end of Generations and keep in mind this was before the whole "different dimension" retcon they came up with later in 2017 so it's impossible for the time eater is cause a split in time when he existed to erase time he's cause the "time eater" for a reason. What you just said is completely full of shit and is plain wrong an fact Ilzukia confirm back in 2016 that Generations isn't canon so even if the time eater did magically created a separate universe it doesn't matter now because Generations is no longer a thing Sega cares about and the way Tails treated Classic Sonic in Sonic Forces with the whole "Oh. Your that Sonic from another dimension!" prove this to NOT be the case. So while Sonic Mania IS in a different dimension it's not because of the time eater but because Ilzukia said the Classic games are their own separate universe apart from the modern games.

Retro Gamer Show me proof that Generations isn't canon. The Time Eater did NOT solely create another universe just because! He did it because he went back in time and meddled with the past! How so? Classic Sonic, Tails, and Eggman know about events that happen in the "future" when they shouldn't.

I like how they didn't bring up the Super Emeralds but showed Hyper Sonic in the video lol But this is an accurate timeline and a timeline i have been trying to explain to others but they never believe me, hopefully this will people know whats been going on in the series

Love how there are chaos emeralds for the different islands made the total number of emeralds 21.

Ok. Bit annoyed that Sonic CD is said to take place before Sonic 2. How does that work? You said in the Classic Sonic Timeline that Sonic CD took place after Sonic 2.

Also, I feel Sonic CD takes place after Sonic 2 because of the fan-made games, Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequel, showing how the events have went before Sonic 2 and 3 & Knuckles. I know fan made games aren't canon to the series but still, they kinda fit in what happened.

Well. You said it yourself. Fan-made games aren't canon at all. You're gonna need a better argument for that. Also, how does Sonic Mania NOT take place in an alternate timeline? Okay. So the Classic and Modern Timelines aren't two completely different timelines. They are two different timelines that were created from a timeline split. What was that split? Sonic Generations. In Sonic Generations; Sonic, Tails, and Eggman don't remember anything from the events of Generations prior to when their much older. But how is this even possible if their younger selves had gone through these events already? The answer is simple: They didn't. There are two different timelines. The Modern Timeline, where Sonic Generations doesn't happen until Sonic's 16th Birthday party. The Classic Timeline, where Sonic Generations takes place when Sonic is still a young kid and not a teenager. Now that we have this established, let's look at Mania and Forces. Mania takes place shortly after Sonic Generations in the Classic Timeline (aka Classic Sonic's world). Sonic Mania never happened in the Modern Timeline; Sonic 4 takes its place. We know this because Classic Eggman uses the Phantom Ruby in Mania yet in the Forces prequel comic, Modern Eggman finds the Phantom Ruby and doesn't even know what it is. This confirms that those two events never happened in the same timeline. At the end of Mania, Classic Sonic is taken by the Phantom Ruby to Modern Sonic's world during the events of Sonic Forces and runs into Modern Tails. They team up with the Resistance and beat Eggman and Infinite. Forces even confirms that Classic Sonic is from a different world since both Eggman and Tails call him a "Sonic from another dimension." It's not that they just found about this either. Eggman, Tails, and even Modern Sonic recognize Classic Sonic from Sonic Generations -Hint: Modern Sonic says "It's been generations since I saw you."- and Classic Sonic recognizes them back. Now it's your turn.

shadic4566 Play Sonic 2's ending. I have. It full on shows the Death Egg -with RoEggmanbotnik still on it- crashing down onto Angel Island. We also knows that Sonic 2 and 3 are connected by Tails flying the Tornado with Super Sonic flying right next to him in both Sonic 2's ending and Sonic 3's beginning.

they never said "right after" and the dialogue in Forces implies that Mania Sonic is Generations Classic Sonic, and that he experienced the Generations Event, so, Mania is after Generations.
