Thanks for this video. My 12 year old step-daughter has expressed interest in typewriters, mostly due to my own interest lol. I purchased one of these for her first typewriter, so hopefully she sticks with it!

Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful information with me. I wandered why I couldn't fix the new ribbon problem I had. Great to know that the original metal spools are the best way to do it. Original designs in the past still have their purpose. I hate all plastics! Thank you again for setting me straight. Now after all these years, I can type on an vintage typewriter again!

0:43 ... Oh Our Gosh what a nightmare! No wonder how the type bar got bent. We have been dreading having to detailing Ours from fluffy Familiar hair accumulated in a humid climate. Which is really only a pixie dusting of Feline fuzz but Ours is the like the favorite thing We ever bought. Literacy is cool. And typewriters are awesome. 🖤🖤🖤.

Super helpful! I just got a Sears Tutor from 1968 off eBay and I was wondering why the new "universal" ribbon didn't fit. Now I know. Good thing I didn't throw out the old ribbon.

This was excellent! I totally got the ribbon in my typewriter. My type says it’s made in England. I don’t know if anyone else’s is.

Make sure paper is tight against roller, form ribbon vibrator(lift) away from platen

I have same problems when I order replacement ribbons the spools come in wrong size so inhave to use the original spools for thr new ribbon.

Where did you get your ink? I just got the same typewriter but I’m having trouble finding the appropriate ink for it.

Probable nothing much, could just be color combination, generally it's just a marketing thing

What is the spool size I should buy? Does this model work with B&W or correction tape?

The original spools were probably not stuck: the Corsair Deluxe has a spool release lever on the left side. The one in this video is marked with a red dot.

No release on this model, look again..... That "Red Dot" is the ribbon reverse arm.

Eyelets are for automatic ribbon reverse, when ribbon end eyelet pushes fork ( 5:15 ) to reverse ribbon direction

Right at the 1:12 time stamp you can see the ribbon control lever on right side of KB next to Tab button

I've got a cougar which is similar to the Corsair and my ribbon won't raise up high enough when I'm typing. Is there a way to adjust the guides to lift the ribbon higher? Edit: I figured it out, I had accidentally had the end rivet on the wrong side of everything when I loaded the spool in.

Hello I am new to this type writer stuff I need help I’m only 22 haha so my I have a 1925 royal typewriter the ribbon on the typewriter tore into two is there any way to fix that or will I have to get a new ribbon ?

Yes, new ribbon is just normal typewriter stuff, like putting gas in the car . . . . .

Jey daune i have a proble that the carriage wont. Move and it works with release of carriage

Hi! I have the same model, the problem is not about the ribbon but the carriage didn't move while I'm typing. When I pressed the keys and used the return carriage lever it would not move, however the carriage release lever did work. Do you know how to fix this? Thank you so much!😭🙈

I would need to troubleshoot it first to figure out what is wrong before I can fix it. Main spring ? Escapement ? Shipping damage ? Something bent ?

I have a problem: I bought a universal ribbon to respool my 1-5/8 inch Smith-Corona spools with, but one of the metal C-Clips is missing, and I can't find any source for a replacement part! I asked a guy at the stationary store that sold me the ribbon and he suggested taping it on-which sounds ludicrous to me-but if you have a method....

Yes I have had to deal with missing clip wat too much. Tape, good tape like gorilla duck, might hold, most tape won't stick to ribbon Tried making a clip, failed. You think tape idea was bad, my method is possibly more questionable I have been using contact cement, small dab on ribbon core, same size dab on ribbon, let dry few moment and attach

I'm performing the same process on a 1921 Corona 3 folding typewriter with small spools. After removing the old ribbon from the spools, I realized only one of them had the clip to hold the ribbon. I think whoever wound the ribbon last time, rigged some sort of tie with a piece of string/thread and the grommet on the ribbon. It was so gummy and grimy I couldn't really figure it out though. Any suggestions to secure my new ribbon without a clip? Thanks.

The same thing happened to me! Did you ever find a solution for it? I was able to make a makeshift clip out of aluminum foil but I’m 100% certain that’s not a good idea and that the ribbon is loose XD so if you have any pointers I’d greatly appreciate it.

Yup, hopefully it helped you anyways Was 110 degrees that day, my shop is open air, the noise is my swamp cooler, I have a new quiet unit now ! You can always put the video on mute, visual is all you need
