I had a conversation with a psychiatric consultant once and he said, "the worst mistake we ever made was to throw antidepressants at patients". He reckoned that up to 80% of depression patients would have fared better with a course of counselling, instead of a course of antidepressants. He also added that we eventually become so dependant on medication, we can't go back.

I’m sure a lot of depression can be attributed to undiagnosed and/or under treated thyroid and hormonal issues. Ask any Hashimotos patient about their symptoms and how long it took to gain a proper diagnosis. Ask me how I know.

I don’t believe that. It’s a lie. We can always come back from dependency on medication. It’s a lie doctors are taught to tell us to keep us on it for as long as we live. Doctors are brainwashed by higher authorities like everybody else.

I was on antidepressants for many, many years. For a fact, antidepressants only numb you out. You may not be quite so “down” but you’ll never experience happiness either. It’s a zombie like state where you just don’t care much about anything at all. Vitamin D and long walks helped far more.

The only time I ever took a Benadryl long-term was when I had shingles. It was the only thing that would take the edge off the feeling of trillions of microscopic insects under my skin, and allow me to function. After taking 1/2 dose two to three times a day for a week or so, I stopped getting sleepy from it. But as soon as I could handle my days without it I stopped. I knew nothing of all this stuff at the time. I'm very sensitive to it again, and one pill will knock me out for 8 hours, with a grogginess/ hangover effect in the morning. Don't like that, but have occasionally used it for the seasonal allergies that I apparently no longer have now that I'm off wheat and dairy.

I was reading dementia is even happening in young people now. My memory has taken a beating since about 2023 as I rarely sleep. It's rare for me to get an hour of sleep most days. I have had insomnia for decades. I've never taken pills for it though. It's a bit scary to forget names but I do my made up exercise and can later remember usually. I'm an oldie. I'm on pills for blood pressure, oesophagus and cholesterol. I hope they aren't affecting me. I do pray about my memory though. Sometimes I wonder how I'm alive with no sleep to speak of. It's slightly better to doze off in Winter now though (for short times). Glad I don't take sleeping pills.

"Safe" in the context of drug indications is a relative term. For example, doctors have described Ivermectin as "safe". But only in the context of allowing parasites to continue to eat away at your body is it "safe". In which case, it's usually described as "Relatively Safe". People love to ignore the "Relatively" part, and choose to focus on the word that makes them feel better.

Oh this one made me furious! I spent the past three years on Keto switching to melatonin from Benedryl because I swore I was forgetting my own name! I also lost all sense of taste and partial sense of smell which, thank God, is slowly coming back; three years later, but coming back. I remember the conversation with my then physician telling me that Benedryl taken for sleep at night was NO BIG DEAL!! Well, it all makes sense now! Um, sorry but my keeping my faculties is a PRETTY BIG DEAL!!!!!! Thank you Dr. Berry! Again, you are ALWAYS looking out for us!

May Almighty God bless you Dr. Berry. I was prescribed 10mg of Amitriptyline by my GP in 2015 for inflammation. I literally passed out for three days from just taken one tablet, which is considered as a Paediatric dosage, because God in His great mercy made my body extremely aversed to Pharmaceutical drugs. I can't believe how you listed Amitriptyline amongst the drugs. You are a true physician created by the Lord Jesus Christ, as written in the Holy Scriptures. However, I just did some research and it appears the one I take can increase your risk for dementia as well. At one time I did try Melatonin and it made me feel awful. The Unisom I take, I get a great night's sleep and I don't wake up groggy. I wake up feeling refreshed. But, when I took Melatonin, it did a number on me. I truly hated it. I had a bad feeling when I saw the title of this video. I use the Diphenhydramine sleep-aid most nights. I have an issue going on with my left hip and the discomfort makes it hard for me to get proper sleep. I've been trying to cut back on my use of this stuff for awhile, thinking it probably wasn't good for me and now I know.

Is it too late for me? I took Benadryl for 2 decades to help me sleep after I developed severe insomnia after the death of my mom. I read about the Benadryl/dementia link and quit taking them. My doctor put me on Lorazepam and Trazadone nightly. What in the heck do I do? If I take nothing I literally do not sleep at all. I feel like a zombie the next day, I have no appetite and I don’t trust myself to drive.

Wow! My mom took Elavil for at least 3 decades as an anti-depressant. She passed away from Alzheimer's at least four decades after I first know she was taking it. I picked up her prescriptions from the drug store in the 60s, 70s and 80s for her, and she was taking Elavil the whole time. She passed away in 2007. I don't know if dementia and Alzheimer's are connected, but it couldn't have helped the situation. I'm 60 years old now. I don't take ANYTHING. Eat right and get off your rear. Take care.

My mother was in stage 6 dementia, near 80 years old. She was suffering from sundowning. We could not get her to sleep. We asked the neurologist about using diphenhydramine to see if it would help her sleep. I've never seen a doctor react so forcefully with a solid NO! That was 7 years ago. Mom was never one to take something like that. So, wasn't the cause of dementia. Still, she didn't want Mom anywhere near it. I take a lot of benadryl for allergies. I have been backing off it. Still, I'm going to have to find something else. I'm with the VA and they keep telling me take benadryl. Or, Claritin which doesn't work. Eight days and I can go outside the VA for treatment. Hopefully, there is something.

@@artemishunter8993 I might have a amazed doctor If I saw the same one more than twice. I've had 13 different ones in the last 9 years, I have better relationships with the ER doctors. Well, except for the one that threw me back out into rush hour traffic, accused me of being on recreational drugs, without ever having looked at my file. All when my glucose reading was 623. He never even logged into my file. All my annual bloodwork for four years showed I was diabetic. No one bothered to tell me. I'm lucky I'm not dead. My husband died because they left him on a waiting list. They're real gems here. They sent me to a dietician, two weeks after a doctor I finally got in to see realized what happened, and she handed me that tired BS from the ADA and I looked at her and laughed. Stood up, said F* that, tossed it into her trash and walked out. Went carnivore for two weeks, off 2 meds. Started adding things back in to my diet gradually. Then five months later tried to get in because I couldn't keep my glucose above 60 and they wouldn't call me back. Dropped the last med on my own. Haven't taken meds since. Down 65 pounds. Med free and fine for a few years. 7 days and my other insurance kicks in. Not soon enough. I'm already making appointments for things I've been trying to get the VA to look at for 4 years. Irony here is I can go to Virginia and/or Georgia, call with an issue and it will take a day or two to get in. Here, they set up the appointment within a day or two. Then when you show up they tell you it's canceled. "Would you like to reschedule for two months out?" When you go pull the records at the next visit, they listed you as a no show. I think that is how they are able to tell the press how much better they've gotten. It's ridiculous.

@@artemishunter8993 It's been a nightmare here. Very frustrating. There are times I set appointments at the VA in WV and go stay with my sister in Virginia to see doctors. I decided it was in my best interest to go ahead and pay the additional supplement amount on my medicare so I can go outside the system and choose my doctor. It kicks in shortly. I'm already making appointments. I'll still use the VA for some things. I just will not use them for my primary care. Although, under their rules, I'll have to go in for an annual physical (which I've been waiting for since last May, they've canceled the last three physicals) to keep on status with them. Other Veterans here have friends with addresses in Wyoming and they go there for care. Not funny but funny department... One of our senator's people, his VA person on staff, had to have surgery. VA sent him out to a private hospital for it (not unusual for any Veteran here). He's in the prep room and a nurse comes in and tells him it was time to shave a part of his head. He asked why. "Well, so they can get to the part of your head for the surgery." she says. He said I'm still confused, why do you have to shave my head for lower back surgery? VA sent the wrong records over to the hospital under the wrong name. This was the Senator's aide. Unbelievable.
