The ambien does not work that great for me. I have been taking Xanax Since I was 24 and now I’m 51. I ONLY take them before I go to bed. I have built up such a tolerance that now I have to take 5 mg at once sometimes to fall asleep. So just recently I was trying to wean myself off of it and start taking Ambien. And it didn’t work for a little bit I was down to just taking one Xanax and Ambien. It’s weird I don’t know what else to do

Physical dependence on a medication taken as prescribed is not addiction. It’s misplaced or abused trust in a doctor or the medical industry. Huge difference that needs recognition. The distinction must become part of everyone’s vocabulary because there is a cultural difference that matters.

@@tamarad4146 Illegal, criminal, weak, antisocial behavior, secrecy, etc, are all negative social idealization’s associated with “addiction” and signal that the individual has done something inherently wrong in their behavior. When an individual takes a “medication” that has been legally prescribed under whatever circumstances, and has become physically dependent on that substance due to malpractice beyond their control it is irresponsible to treat that person as if they have done something inherently “wrong” for simply trusting a professional. Stigma = Silence and some “professionals” bank on that. Literally.

@@user-dg7sy8cz3b I couldn't have said any of that better myself. I agree, it's a huge problem the way we conceptualice addicts and the stigma associated with the word 'addict' or 'addiction.' Trust is a huge part of healthcare, and these are good people trusting those who too often exploit them. Poor people, if I think about it for too long, it makes me literally cry. Physical exercise & meditation helped me a lot. Drugs only made it worse. Most of the doctors don't take a holistic approach to your issues and just put you on drugs due to limited time, limited training, limited knowledge. Traditional medicine really needs a revamp and I'm sure there will always be a lot of resistance from drug makers, the more problems we have, the more money they make.

Zopiclone is a good one, they used to say it wasn't addictive, but it is habit forming, take half of a 7.5mg. But every sleeping pill I've ever used, has a pretty bad hangover, and they get worse as you get older, you'll feel it most of the day. Oregano oil can help you sleep, but it has a hangover, the same with Melatonin. Tryptophan is another amino acid that can help sleep, but if you're an insomniac, the pills are the only guaranteed way to sleep.

When I was prescribed it, zopiclone was wonderful but I was sensible and used 3.75mg every second night and usually after my first attempt of sleep at around 2am. That way I got 5 or 6 hours good sleep every second night and could function properly during the day. Doc told me I was and addict and some other negative opinionated stuff and took me off it and now I am rarely safe to drive the car.

With Ambien I just take and go straight to bed no matter what even if it takes awhile or I do dumb stuff. I been on sleep meds since I was 4 years old and Clonidine worked for most of my life then eventually it didn't and I would spent 3-4 hours every night trying to go to bed no matter what till I eventually got put on Ambien. Its weird it doesn't really make me tired just fall asleep when I close my eyes faster. Like 20-40 minutes vs 3-4 hours. I started and been on 10MG for around 4 years now and for me it works about the same when I first got it and I take the same dosage every night. I have done some dumb stuff on it though but basically only buying dumb stuff on amazon I would never normally buy or sitting there imagining these impossible scenarios its so weird.

I was prescribed Ambien 5 mg for 30 days because I was having trouble breathing through my nose and it was causing sleep problems. I took it for about 10 days and it worked phenomenally well. I've never waken up feeling so rested and alert at the same time. I have read about horror stories but I suspect that in many cases, there is more to the story than is being provided. Obviously some people have difficult reactions and maybe some people get addicted but to me it's pretty hard to imagine how anyone who takes Ambien as directed becomes addicted (as in, seeking it out for recreational purposes). I can see that if you have chronic insomnia, you may become dependent on it because you need it to go to sleep. But then what's the alternative? Not sleeping?

@@BobandBrad Thanks. It mostly only happens when I am anxious about something. Sometimes I don’t realize I am anxious until I can’t fall into sleep. I also listen to sleep meditations every night. I know when I’ve listened to a whole 30min meditation and haven’t drifted to sleep then something is off. If I know I am anxious about something and have a feeling I might not be able to sleep then I will take Diphenhydramine. It works but holy moly I am usually still super groggy in the morning and it takes a while to get going. That was the reason for my question. I was thinking Melatonin was more for people to get back on track when their sleep schedule has been all messed up for a while and that it takes a little while for it to start working. Am I wrong? Does it help immediately (right away/same night)? Thanks for your quick response.

Woke up and didn't know he was asleep and started asking him why was he doing what he was doing which he kept denying. This video is awesome! I have been prescribed Ambien for about 11 years, and I stopped only when I found out I was pregnant, so I was off of it for almost a year in the past decade. Once I stopped nursing after a couple months, I started taking Ambien again. It’s wonderful, and the only medication that didn’t make me drowsy the next morning. Even Unisom and Benadryl made me feel hungover the next day. I can’t say enough about Ambien. It was a life-saver through college and after. But I did develop a tolerance and now I can only take it a few times a month or it doesn’t work, unfortunately. I have tried zopiclone, and it’s less effective, but works. It allows me to sleep, but the metallic taste is gross. I’m about to try zaleplon. Hoping to get some info from you guys! Does it cause the same mild hallucinations as Ambien? I like them, but I MUST be in bed, or I start eating without any memory the next morning. 🤦‍♀️

I would never advocate for any drug, however, all doctors should tell you not to do anything after taking ambien. You should be in bed, lying down, ready to sleep. I’ve never once done anything crazy when I wake up at night to use the restroom or anything else after taking Ambien. Only thing I’d advise against is browsing the Internet shortly after you take Ambien as you may accidentally buy something and forget you did so until you’re scrolling through your email and see an order confirmation the next day! Again, just don’t even browse the Internet after taking it. Also, don’t take it more than 5x a week. That’s what my dr told me. Just take when absolutely necessary... and stay offline, and in bed right after taking it...and it’s just fine for me.

I did my own research at the university on this topic, and apparently marijuana will make you fall asleep, but it will diminish your quality of sleep. Sleep occurs in cycles and there are 2 states in which you're in when you're asleep: dream-sleep and deep-sleep. You need a perfect balance of each to get a good sleep. Marijuana and alcohol, however, put you into a state of deep-sleep for too long and can cause you to wake up when deep-sleep is over. Essentially, marijuana and alcohol disrupt the cycle, which can leave you feel tired the next day. Just throwing that out there in case it's something you might want to consider/look into yourself. :)

I have MS and was given Gabapentin for intense leg pain. It did take the pain away and helped me sleep but I always felt very weird the next day... kind of like I was not in my body (If that makes any kind of sense) I only take it once in a while now and only if I am really suffering.

I took Gabapentin. I though it was the miracle drug. My back pain went away. It worked well for a couple of months now it does nothing. I even doubled the dosage before I went to sleep to see if I could pain free. Nope. It's totally useless now and I stopped taking it. Wow, those first few weeks on it were amazing. I thanked by spine physician. The body is funny. It adjusts to everything. If you are meant to have back pain it will do whatever it takes to continue ruining your life.

That remark about Roseanne Barr was not fair or accurate. Yes, you can say things you are totally unaware of on Ambian. It has really messed up some people. She had a long history of depression as well. Just assuming she is racist and "rightfully" fired from her show is ludicrous. Give her a break guys. Geeze. Maybe you should interview her first and not accept what the media says about her. Other than that I love you guys. Thank you.

Ive had an insomnia battle for 30 years, one thing rarely mentioned is hormone levels. 50% more women suffer from insomnia than men. At one point my Dr. took away my sleep meds and said I had built up too much of a tolerance, I went to my OBGYN by coincedence the next day and he tested my hormone levels and they were way out f whack, we got them reset and in two days the sleep meds worked again. The original beginning of my sleep problems were after having two babies, and my hormones were off, looking back if I would have realized the correlation I may have never started needing sleep meds. Now I have been dependent on low dose Z drug for over half of my life and am scared to try to detox.

@@user-mp9lq3xv5b It was a long process but definately worth it. I found a sleep behavior specialist...not a pill slinger. I do a lot of things now that all work together to give me better sleep. My sleep hygiene includes getting up and going to bed at the same time every day; getting plenty of exercise including an early morning walk and a late afternoon walk (without sunglasses so your eyes get the sunlight); I use blue light filters on my computer screens since I work on a computer all day; absolutely no overhead lights on in the house after sunset; wear blue blocker lenses while watching tv after sunset; eating breakfast is another "zeistgeiber" that keeps your circadian rythyms on track and it's best if I don't eat later than 4 or 5 pm. I wear a sleep tracker to bed which helps me not get upset when I think I've had a bad night...the tracker often tells me I actually slept better than I thought. Being confidant of your ability to sleep well is vital to being able to sleep well. I hope this helps and I encourage you to find a ceritifed sleep behavior specialist for help. There's a list of providers at behavioralsleep.org. I went to Dr. Ryan Wetzler and he was terrific. Some providers do remote visits electronically if there is nobody nearby where you live. Good luck to you. Oh...also, he had me do breathing exercises for 😌 relaxation.
