have you tried a good quality calcium/magnesium supplement before sleep? Most people are deficient in these minerals, they are very crucial for many biological processes in the body. I found my sleep issues (in my thirties )were resolved in a couple of days when rebalancing my body this way with quality minerals. Also, many of us are quite deficient in Vitamin C, this also helps with sleep. The RDA on the Vit C labels in no way compares to far higher levels consumed by healthy people who live naturally on fruit from wild forest areas (the studies have been done on this). These people experience none of the sleep problems common in the western, urbanised world.

I've been told by my doctor I may have delayed sleep cycle disorder, but no test has been done. Is there a test one should have done before asuming? Does it make a difference? I always feel better and more able to work and focus at night and then I sleep in the morning. This works for me also because I'm a singer, but even as a child I felt this pattern in my brain, where I was more awake at night than durning the day.

I have been suffering from severe insomnia since October last year. Sometimes I had 3-4 nights without any sleep at all. As you can imagine it turned me into a zombie. I developed major depression. I lost job, relationships, anything. Tips like relax, have a hot shower or some sport before bed were like a joke for me. I needed heavy stuff. Thanks to ambien I can sleep.

I've only taken Ambien for relatively short periods of time during a major crisis. I've tended to just quit taking it out of frustration, because it makes me feel like I don't dream at all, and that freaks me out. Whenever I feel like I don't dream I just start to feel hopeless, and nihilistic.

I have been using a over the counter sleep med and have found that when I choose not to use it, my sleep is much more recuperating if I actually sleep but I can't count on sleeping better, get intermittent. I tend to wake up and think too much. The one thing I do find with the sleep med is I have IBS and disruption in my digestive system, even after following a healthy diet. I wonder if sleep meds (docylamine) have ever been implicated in colon cancer because I am certain it's very harsh for the intestines. If I skip the sleep med, my system is happy again, even though my sleep might have been really scant. Thank you for offering free, wise advice during such a weird time for us all. I plan to try your ideas. Bless you!

@Jessica P Mello have you tried a good quality calcium/magnesium supplement before sleep? Most people are deficient in these minerals, they are very crucial for many biological processes in the body. Women can be most vulnerable to these deficiencies, due to their different biological processes. Google Pub Med Central to find Vitamin C studies there if you want to find the science behind all this... All the techniques in the video above are good. I would also suggest breathing techniques to slow the mind down, before sleep. These can be found online (try Dr Mercola or Edgar Cayce websites for links to helpful sites here). Being conscious of what you do during the day to promote sleep at night is a very good way to approach the whole problem (for example, the no coffee after three p.m and no or reduced alcohol advice given above).

Unfortunately, benadryl appears to interfere with sleep quality. It also can lead to physical dependence and addiction if use is prolonged. There is also some evidence that long-term use results in serious neurotoxicity. That said, for many people, it is a safe and effective sleep aid for *short term* use. Magnesium, melatonin, valerian, glycine, lemon balm, and lavender-silexan all appear well tolerated, safe, and reasonably effective. If those don't work, then you're best speaking to your doctor and should consider behavioral interventions.

    2 жыл бұрын

@@Linzieleefreewald You may not feel it, but it's there in your system. If you've taken the 10mg for a long while, you won't feel drowsy or that it's working. So, yeah you might have to go through a few bad nights to get off of it. You're titrating to a lower dose. You're trying to come off of it. Just don't come off of it abruptly. Do it gradually. It'll work after you adjust but you'll have to lower it again. Eventually I'll lower the dose to 1/4 tablet every night for maybe 2 weeks and then I'm stopping. If I can't sleep, I'll deal with that naturally, or in a safer way. Ambien must be stopped after a short while. No sleeping pill is meant to be taken regularly. Except maybe natural remedies but even some like Melatonin should be discontinued after some time. Speak with your doctor to let him or her know you need to stop. There are safer solutions. Don't do this abruptly. All the while introducing natural methods. Effectiveness is not measured by how "drowsy" or "high" you feel. Natural methods don't give you that so people think they just can't work. They CAN be helpful.

@@ioiaxopanel3652 hey! I don’t know if you ever got this figured out, but remeron (mirtazapine) is really only helpful in lower doses (7.5-15mg) . At higher speeds, such as 45, it has more antidepressant effects. It is kind of backwards how that works , but just something to be aware of ! Keep in mind I’m not a liscenced health care professional. But I would be aware if a Dr is prescribing you something at a dose it was not intended for .

The fact that many of the sleep aids are administered chronically has nothing to do with pharmaceutical companies designing a drug that will require chronic versus acute use. Give me a break. It’s just a consequence of the fact that insomnia is typically a chronic condition and most of the drugs that treat it undergo tachyphylaxis which requires chronic use and does escalation. It’s a function of the pharmacodynamic mechanism of action.

Pill shaming has to stop. Some of us have glutamate disorders and so GABA is in short supply. Zopiclone helps me enormously and it still does even after twenty two years. In addition, I have refractory restless legs syndrome. For this I have to take a low dose opioid. To counter some of the wakefulness caused by the opioid, many actually need to take Zopiclone also. Insomnia is a complex disease and I’m sick of all the patronising bs about sleep hygiene. We’re not robots. I have given up on worrying about whether I use my bed ‘too much’ because I’m ill and I don’t have a choice. And I have nothing but positive feelings about my bed and my ‘associations’ have not changed my sleep disorder in one way or another. In fact, I sleep better now because of the medication. It doesn’t mean I actually tolerate the opioid very well but there is nothing else for me now. Stop with all this insomnia shaming nonsense! Doctors like this have no idea and they don’t give a toss about the devastating effects of sleep deprivation.
