This should have not surprised anyone and while the costs in tax dollars were not considered, neither did they consider the polarizing effect between citizens and immigrants would exacerbate an already tense situation that will likely result in violence and perhaps even death. The tax dollars needed to just meet the existing increased demand for services is already staggering and will continue to ascend record heights. The Mayor and his ilk never considered the logical result of being a ‘sanctuary city’ though the vote getting sound bite was so tasty as he proclaimed it ! But what of the increased demands that lengthen existing waiting times to access existing resources ? And the significant financial increase in expanding those resources lest the system, its staff, services and fiscal budget are completely overwhelmed resulting in system collapse or uncontrollable melt down ? All this effort and expenditure in putting temporary band-aids on the symptoms even before addressing the civil and fiscal problems arising from any attempt to curtail the flood of immigrants. The plethora of groups both for and against immigration to New York will add pressures upon government leaders, citizens, workers, immigrants, & the provision of effective services, plus dealing with interest groups and angry individuals from both sides. The amount of money required in immigrant curtailment attempts could easily develop into civil unrest from both sides. Ergo even yet more financial drain and strain. Simply put: “How do you unring a bell?”
