Notice how almost the entire time Bay's talking the cop is talking over him. I work in customer service, so I'm trained to deescalate. It's such an easy thing to keep your mouth shut and let the person be irate. Just letting them be irate gets their anger out and they feel like you're listening. These cops don't get any training like that. If they did, it wasn't enough. Their ego gets in the way.

If a cop says "It's right here." or "It's on my chest.", then they should have no reason to expect that a citizen will keep their distance. That should be the same thing as saying, "It's right here, so you're going to have to get close enough to me, in order to make it out."

I was coming to say add to any complaint, "does not comply with the ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act". If they refuse to verbally identify they are assuming you can read English and do not have(wait for it) a disability. A Policy is "flexible" a law like the ADA is not. They can't bend the law and typically "Policies" are created to comply with laws. And when Policies don't they get sued and have to tear down the BS.

I think auditors should carry a one-page document that can be handed to cops whenever they threaten to arrest an auditor. The purpose of this document is to preclude police from using qualified immunity to defeat a lawsuit. This document would say something like: *I'm a constitutional auditor and an investigative journalist exercising my First Amendment right of freedom of the press. I'm engaged in the constitutionally protected activity of recording police and government employees in public. I want to thank you for shedding light on this topic. Through my observations and past experiences the Daly City police department has had problems with their conduct spanning the past few decades. I truly believe that the corrupt culture of the Daly City police is in need of serious repair. The cop that wanted to fight was an example of the toxic traits passed down through generations of bad police practice. I hope in my lifetime to the least learn that the Daly City police go through proper conduct training and practice this with the respective citizens in the community.

Saying calm is a lot harder than it looks when cops are trying to jam you up. Especially when there are more than one of them surrounding you. Would have been a good question to put the supervisor for sure but given there were several issues going on the guy with the camera has to pick one and drill down on it.

Isn’t that insufficiency one of the oft-noticed weaknesses of female police officers: where height/fitness/strength mismatches can render them ineffective in a physical confrontation, or can make them feel inferior even in the absence of a situation requiring physicality - to the point where they may tend to overcompensate with verbal swagger, or a premature resort to armed force? (The same can be true of a particularly diminutive male officer.)
