I was still $15,000 in student loan debt during my last year of university, my wife had just had our first baby, and I was the sole provider. I made a spreadsheet just like you did and talked it over with my wife and we decided to work extra hard to live frugally and graduate debt free. I’m excited to say that I just paid off the last $5000 of my student loan debt last week and we are officially debt free - none at all. It’s so liberating. I like coming back to this video because it makes a great point, so many people think financial freedom means everyone wants to be millionaires but really most people just want to be out of debt and have 6-12 months' worth of expenses saved up. It's such an amazing feeling knowing that you can quit your job at any time and be fine. It takes the power out of the employer's hands and puts it in yours. It gives you the freedom to negotiate your pay when searching for jobs because you aren't desperate to take whatever low ball they offer you.

The ability to help someone in need, not worry about bills and be able to save instead of living paycheck to paycheck is far more valuable than aiming for a ferrari or mansion.

Having roommates will definitely bring the cost down but at some point you'll eventually want your own place. You'll have to decide if your budget allows you to rent a studio, one bedroom apartment, or buy a house. Many will tell you to not exceed 28 percent of gross income on housing. Most of the time hitting that 28 percent is not a good idea.

Those who fail to make the right decisions early in life end up regretting it. When we first started it, we were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. We just graduated college as well. We started the late night cookie shop out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night. We were living in our car in the parking lot of the shop at the time with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And how we have our first storefront location (a second launching in January!) Money doesn't buy happiness. Money is not the most important thing. Until you don't have it. But seriously. As a medical student who's about to be graduated. My conclusion of this matter is this : Money IS the most important thing because it can purchase your wellbeing, aka Healthcare. Especially if you live somewhere like the U.S. You can't enjoy spirituality, can't enjoy family time or anything life has to offer if you're dead. I've seen this play out countless times in my education. It's unacceptable what is going on in the U.S. So yes. Money is the most important because health is the most important

And for the past few weeks I was trying to spend less time on Instagram and other apps that wasted a lot of my time. So after seeing that video I deleted all social media of my phone and I logged out of app of them on my computer. Right now I'm on day 16 and I feel way more free and not bound to my phone or anything. Often times I'll just leave my phone at home and not even really care, and I think that's pretty sick. When I'm done with the 30 days I was planning on making a video about what I learned and what I experienced. Anyway, thank you so much Matt for just making videos that actually mean something and really do inspire people. 🤘🏽

Couldn’t agree more. I think of it as “bridge money” and what that means is the moment your life changes and you get fired, quit your job, want to move somewhere, etc., it provides you with plenty of time/money to bridge the gap between one job to the next. I personally have a 6 month Emergency Fund specifically for those situations should they arise, and also a $10,000 Rainy Day Fund. The RDF is the real emergency money for when my car engine blows up, I break my leg and need to pay the deductible, get in a car accident, just any unexpected life-happens type ordeal, that’s pretty much covered under my Rainy Day Fund. Having both of these Saving funds has increased my overall positivity by leaps and bounds, and I know in the back of my mind that I don’t have to stress or worry about money in the short term.

There are plenty of other good universities around the globe. I haven't paid that much to go to university, except 100 dollars for the registration process. You go to university to learn, not to worry about money (although this might motivate some people to work harder, to get better results, but those are just bad students in my opinion).

what's ridiculous is you can have no debt, great credit, and overall be good with money, yet still have no money because your job doesn't pay you enough and you can't just go get another job because you need certain job experience to get that high paying job. the best tip to financial freedom is to make friends with everybody you can. because getting a good job isn't about what you know, it's about who you know.

This is exactly the set up my wife and I have been using. We really don’t count our Mortgage as a “debt”. Only because this isn’t the last home we buy. We consider our debt ex. Cars and credit cards. The worst advice anyone ever gave us once was. Wanting something is good enough reason sometimes to buy something. Lol! Well we took that advice and ran with it. In 2 years. We accumulated $15000 in credit card debt. After the dust settled we went back and looked at the damage and we’re so embarrassed of ourselves. We had no self control. We are now on the right track in becoming debt free and are really excited. We decided to go with the snowball effect. We have terrible interest on our credit cards. I’m actually too embarrassed to say how much it is, but trust me when I say it’s bad. One of our minimum payments on our card is $175!!!!! Fuuuuuuu that!!!!! We’re rocking the spreadsheet and have paid off 2 credit cards. I am a plumber and do odd jobs to help people and use that money to pay off our debts faster. It’s a hustle but my wife and I got ourselves into this mess....did I mention that we have 2 kids. ( the plot thickens) 🤣🤣 thanks for the video Matt. You’ve inspired my wife and I to become the best us we can be.
