In this video, we're going to talk about cirrhosis and the early detection of silent liver cirrhosis.
What is cirrhosis?
Cirrhosis is scar tissue of the liver.
Categories of cirrhosis:
1. Compensated Cirrhosis - Where the body is compensating, there are no symptoms.
2. Decompensated Cirrhosis - This is where you start experiencing all of the symptoms.
Symptoms of cirrhosis:
• Spider Angioma - Red web-like veins
• Xanthomas - Small yellow cholesterol spots, sometimes around the eyelids
• Jaundice - The whites of the eyes and the skin become yellow
• Thin Skin - You can't make collagen anymore
• Ascites - A fluid-filled sac around the mid-section
• Gynecomastia - Breast tissue
• Clubbed fingernails
• Edema in the lower leg
• Red Palms
• Confusion
• Bruising
• Itchy skin
• Cognitive issues
What causes cirrhosis?
Cirrhosis of the liver starts with insulin resistance from:
• Alcohol
• High carb diets
• Junk food
• Sugar
• Frequent eating
• Drugs (legal or illegal)
• Viruses
Insulin resistance creates a lot of inflammation, which will also make insulin resistance worse. This situation may lead to a fatty liver, which can then lead to scar tissue in the liver that causes you to lose liver function, which is cirrhosis.
Insulin resistance is also associated with:
• Diabetes
• Metabolic syndrome
• Obesity
If you have symptoms of cirrhosis, you may want to start by fixing the insulin resistance.

22 years and 5 months sober. Was drinking 3 bottles of Vodka a day at my very lowest point. Admitted myself to hospital where I was successfully detoxed. A liver biopsy revealed a very fatty liver. Fortunately I had no sign of hepatitis or fibrosis and a few months later my liver was completely normal. Wished I sought some support as it was hard facing life without alcohol at the age of 30. I wish anyone who is battling alcohol dependency all the very best. 🙏🏼

@@myyoutubechannel3161 hello 👋 so they gave me a local anaesthetic then inserted a needle into my liver, just below the ribs on the right side of my abdomen. They took a sliver of liver and then it was sent to histopathology for examination under a microscope (I presume) the results showed that I had steatosis (basically liver fat) fortunately I had no inflammation or fibrosis. After 6 months of abstinence I had my liver function blood tests repeated and an ultrasound of my liver. They were completely normal as I had stopped drinking. The worst thing about the biopsy was having to lie still for 6 hours on my left side. This is to prevent any bleeding. That was done on Christmas Eve 1999. I got my results back on the 6th of January. I know a bit about the liver so was very relieved that they caught it early as once scarring occurs it’s permanent and can still progress to cirrhosis over a few years despite abstinence. Technology has now changed and there is a very quick non invasive ultrasound that can detect the density of your liver and if the result is out of the normal range then they will advise accordingly depending on how high the reading is. Hope this was useful.

If I knew 30 years ago what I know now, I might be healthy. When first told I had hep-c, the treatment was like Kemo or something. The Dr. told me there would be days I wouldn't be able to get out of bed because the treatment would be so bad. Also I was told there was no guarantee it would even work. I was working construction as a glazer. I couldn't take days off. couldn't feel anything wrong with me and thought I was healthy and strong as an ox. Then it got bad. By then they had the 8 week daily pill that cured the hep-c in less than 8 weeks. Even though I was cured of hep-c which I think I got at the hosp. when they had to operate on my broken compound fracture femur. That was back in 1980 before they checked the blood for diseases. But how do you prove that? Now I have outlived what the "specialist told me my time left. And I suffer all the time. Can't sleep, always in pain, can't eat hardly anything. Good luck to everyone!

Yeah liver issues is probably much worst than heart issues. Your liver takes a hell of a beating with sugar, fats, enzymes, etc and anything you consume in large amount could kill your liver. Don't do drugs, alcohol or smoke. These 3 things will kill your liver. Also don't eat too much fatty food every day like a quadruple double cheese burger with sugar soda everyday.

@Harry Notwoke BTW: as far as “apply for a new liver”? That’s a lie. Many people die waiting on a new liver after getting on the waiting list. And it’s hard enough to even get on the waiting list. There are so many factors that come into play via the national transplant list. Whoever said that was sadly misinformed. I guess he/she would rather die than clean up and start fresh.

I really hurt because there’s a pain on my back and in my stomach but if I don’t push myself to do this little bit of exercise that I started to do, I’m not gonna get any better it’s going to turn to the cirrhosis which I don’t want to have so that’s good that you and your friend are working out also, take care and God bless I pray everyone heals there liver !!!

Don't eat anything else at all until your body has fully digested and absorbed that last food (this takes about 10-16 hours, depending on what you ate last, the state of your body and other factors). 3. I used to have what my Doctor say "elevated Liver Enzymes", early cirhossis. But quit alcohol, fast food + take milk thistle, green vegetables, milk. every blood test is now normal range. It's like the Liver can regenerate, unless it's in very, very bad shape. So, big difference between compensated and decompensated liver.

A lot of illness is caused by unnecessary worrying not to mention unnecessary medical bills like when I told the doctor I had a pain he said I don’t think it’s cancer so I approved a bunch of tests and when I asked for results everything was fine he scared me into thinking I may be sick

Great info. Thanks. I've read a lot of diet books. Actually I've read most of them. Lol. Always helps to hear and see rather than just read. Also, my library of books aids me in weaning out wrong information and brings me here for the real stuff.

Thank you. I was diagnosed with T2D a little over a year ago. Immediately when a low-carb diet (approximately 20 Grams of carbs a day), following many of your recommendations Dr. Berg. Within 3 months my A1C was normal and has stayed normal since then. Cut the sugar out and everything starts to improve.

Dr. Eric Berg is very clearly one of if not the best Doctors period. I have been an eager student of his wisdom for a while now. It’s simply the method of explanation that resonates with audiences that is very appealing and excellent. Dr. Berg thank you 🙏🏼. You have changed my already healthy lifestyle and set me on a path of healthy living. I’m very appreciative for everything.

I'll be 45 in may and was diagnosed with cirrhosis at 39 a week before my 40th bday. I have about a dozen doctors n your presentation was more informative than what I've learned from them. They tell you what you should n shouldn't eat but never mention IR. I was prediabetic at first n gained a 100lb+ over 6 monthes from 192lbs to 310lbs. I exercised n ate healthy until I reversed the prediabetic A1C from 6.4 to 5.5.
