Baseball involves big investment both in infrastructure (specialized ballparks) and training of players, coaches, managers and umpires all required to learn undoubtedly the most complicated and extensive rules and past precedents, besides plethora of strategies and tactics based on statistical analysis and calculation of probabilities, which is presumably the reason why it became popular in just a few countries apart from the US. Nevertheless, once a nation is hooked on baseball, it can easily be the most popular of all the sports being practiced in the country, which is the case in Japan.

I'd like to see stats on this. I felt like the umps were incredibly accurate for every game I watched. Whatever they were doing for the WBC, they need to extend that to the MLB. No pitch clock, no bad umps. It was all so refreshing.

The world baseball classic ought to tell you... This man should be a beast in the playoffs. The big moments, he seems to get even better

That slider he threw to get out Trout was just simply amazing. I’m sad the US lost but Japan winning going undefeated you got to tip your caps. But also Baseball as a sport won and I hope that energy from the WBC gets integrated more into the MLB

⚾️ People wanted to see Ohtani on a big stage like the WBC it was like a playoff in every game, I watched all of Ohtani's games in this WBC he was Incredible, he hit .435 with 8 RBIs also a 420 foot HR and tied a record 10 walks, and also as a Pitcher went 2-0 with 1.84 ERA and 11 Ks in 9 innings and a save Ohtani MVP🏆

But while Ichiro was a superstar, I feel like we never had a Japanese player in any kinds of sports that dominates and impacts the sports that they are playing to a level where people start to regard them not only as that Japanese goat but also as the goat for their sports until Shohei.
