The fans and the media are solely focused on Ohtani but this game demonstrates how criminally underrated the Japanese baseball league is. Five NPB pitchers combining for one run in 7 innings against this stacked US lineup and two homers coming out of the best sluggers in the Japanese league

@@rafaelisslaam1894 You don't seem to understand why Japan has won the WBC 3 out of 5 already. Besides, Japan were missing some of their best players and pitchers too. Japan is better than US at elemination tournament, because of their baseball style. USA won't win even if they had Cole, Scherzer with them. But, if the WBC championship game was like a 7 game World Series style, then USA will do better than Japan. As long as WBC takes the Soccer World Cup style tournament, Japan will always be the favorite team to win.

not really an “excuse” as it is giving context. it’s common knowledge that many of the best pitchers in the world are american, which none of the elite competed in the WBC while japan sent their dream team. nobody is saying japan doesn’t deserve the win, it’s just unfortunate we couldn’t see a full strength competition due to the politics that come with MLB teams

Guys, I will be honest with you all. I grew up breathing baseball - I mean playing it at the park, watching the pros every night, devouring the box scores in the morning paper, studying all the strategy, the stats, the beautiful history of the Bambino, Teddy Ballgame, Jackie, all the way up to Griffey, Jeter and Chipper in my childhood. Well, I admit I have fallen away. I hate, hate some of these rule changes like the random extra inning base runners. I sigh at the expense of the games, concessions, apparel. I am mad at all the anti-dramatic strikeouts, walks, solo homers and guys not stealing bases and putting the ball in play. I’ve stopped watching a few years back, because I’ve felt they’re trying to turn baseball into something it isn’t supposed to be. Baseball is cerebral: its drama comes not from an overstimulated race against a clock, but rather from one’s imagination of the endless possibilities, the hundreds of parallel strands that just might all somehow weave together. But tonight - Samurai Japan vs. Team USA. Ohtani vs. Trout. How can you not be a romantic, my friend. What a flood of emotion: everything I have ever loved about this beautiful game. Thank you Japan 🇯🇵for your talent, teamwork, selfless play, pure class, and for your legendary hero Shohei Ohtani. Truly deserving. Thank you to 🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇺🇵🇷🇻🇪and all the others. You might be right. I hate baseball but the world series was awesome.
In Japan, baseball is deeply rooted in the culture and played at every level, from elementary school to college. Even outside of formal teams, kids frequently play catch, and there are countless private clubs for both children and adults, as well as independent leagues. On Sunday mornings, you can see people playing in riverbed baseball grounds. This culture has matured over generations since baseball was imported to Japan about 150 years ago. They all knew the USA was the best baseball country, but dreamed of “someday…” This victory also belongs to those nameless people who have played and loved baseball. It was an absolutely great game made not only by these amazing players but also everyone who have loved this sport, most likely including you. Thank you, everyone.

Many people overseas think that Shohei Ohtani's history as a batter and pitcher began with his own wishes, but that is not the case. When Ohtani graduated from high school, he said he wanted to go to the MLB, but Kuriyama, the manager of WBC Japan this time, persuaded him to develop both batting and pitching talents. Until then, he said, Ohtani had never considered doing both. It would not have been possible without Ohtani's own talent, hard work and ambition, but the fact that we are able to see these two talents is the achievement of Kuriyama and the Nippon-Ham Fighters.
What a great match! I'm happy not that Japan won but that two great teams from the two countries showed their best performance. It was in the late 70s that I spend my childhood in N.Y., went to public school, collected baseball cards, watched ball games in Yankee Stadium, and played baseball in a little league. Never imagined in those days that I could ever watch such a great game as this one.
As a Puerto Rican, our team didn’t make it as far as last WBC. But I’m glad Japan 🇯🇵 won! 🎉 congrats from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Finally, Ohtani can prove to himself and all those who are critical of him, that he deserves his place at the very top of the baseball world, #1. As great as he is, he also has obstacles and “what if’s”, he would like to overcome for himself and those obstacles came in the form of Trout, the USA Team, and performing on a worldwide stage. Ohtani has probably wondered to himself many times, “can I beat Trout, the co-#1 baseball player in the world?, Can I beat all the great and awesome MVP players on the American Team?, As a captain, am I capable of leading my team to win every game we play?, do I have what it takes to lead them to stand at the top of the baseball world? Can we (the students) become the master?” This game definitely answered all of his questions with a resounding, “YES I CAN AND I DID!!!” And this great response reverberated throughout the world on this night and for many days and nights after that and finally into the annals of baseball history and eternity!!! So yes I agree that “baseball won”, but Ohtani was the biggest winner!!! Congratulations on your win, Shohei Ohtani and all the great and awesome Japanese players!! All of you truly deserve it!!!🎉🏆💕

I'm embarrassed to admit that prior to this year I had no idea about the World Baseball Classic at almost 30 years old. Boy, am I glad I tuned in for these last few games of the contest. They should really do this every other year instead of every 3. I'm sure the traction among fans and players is there. On another note, what a win for Team Samurai Japan! I was hoping for a USA win, but Japan has some absolutely elite pitching arms and play such a brand of pure, oldschool ball. Speed on the bases, plate discipline, balls in play to move runners. Congrats Japan, hope we get a rematch in 2026!

@@acruzro95 It would also give guys so many more opportunities to be involved in a WBC. Most guys don't have a 20 year career in the pros with no statistical drop-off, so they wouldn't feel robbed of their shot to represent their countries. If a players best years are from their age 25-32 seasons, they may only get 2 shots at it at age 27 and 30(if they stay healthy that is). If it were every 2 years, they could get a shot at 26, 28, 30, and 32.
