Shipyards Can Win and Lose You Wars...
Ever wondered HOW Shipyards Work in Stellaris? I'll show you!
Edited by @harinion, Main Channel @Strategiser
0:00 Did you know that in Stellaris Shipyards are Important?
0:03 MANY times I see people having only ONE shipyard and THIS is such a mistake!
0:07 Doesn’t matter if you have INFINITE Alloys, IF you only have ONE Shipyard, it’s practically USELESS!
0:13 If you suffered ANY Losses, replacing them is gonna take AGES...and if you LOST your ONLY Shipyard, you’ll just DIE
0:19 My Recommendation is to ALWAYS have MULTIPLE Shipyards "clumped" together on TWO sides of your Empire at minimum
0:26 If one Shipyard "clump" gets Invaded or Jump-Drive’d, the other is still able to Produce and Reinforce the Fleet
0:32 This may mean less Naval Cap from Anchorages, but the increased Redundancy will allow you to be on the Offensive, as you can afford the RISK more!
0:40 You should ALSO put a Gateway on EACH Shipyard "clump", as Reinforcement’s "arrival time" depends on how far the Fleet is from the Shipyards
0:48 If you’re NEXT to a Gateway, even when you're on the other side of the Galaxy, you still count as still being NEXT to the Shipyards, making for a QUICK Reinforcement wave!
0:57 You also have to pay attention to ENEMY Shipyards as well! Look for where their Ships "appear" by looking at their Starbase Models, or the Appearing and Disappearing "fleet icons" that are moving!
1:08 If you want to know HOW Firing Arcs work, then Click the Video on Screen to get CONFUSED(it's very complicated)!

I put a mega shipyard and 6 additional normal ones in a sector right next to a gateway and have gate ways evenly throughout my border so so my reinforcements can be there as quick as possible

that is an option yes, but i recommend splitting your mega-shipyard and shipyard clumps apart, to make them less vulnerable to a targeted invasion using Jump Drives

Even better, make sure that the "shipyard sector" is in the absolute hardest-to-reach part of your empire. That way even if you lose the capital you can keep fighting

In my games (plus it helps the AI are stupid, idk if it's a console thing or what) I have my capital planet and I put fortress habitats on several if not all the other planets I can. @@lynarisevershadeshadowfall1684 yeah too bad gigastructural engineering is overrated as fuck
Starbase capacity buffs are severely underrated. Iv definitely won several wars simply by 'out reinforcing' the enemy.
I tend to give each large fleet at least 1 shipyard dedicated to it, possibly more if I have spare starbase cap. And spread those through my enpire, so I have fleet power close to as many parts of empire as possible. And so that if I need to reinforce, the burden is spread across lots of shipyard modules.

This is me, all the way. I also have a fleet dedicated to the Mega Shipyard, as well my Dyson Sphere and Decompressor. (Can't let my economy collapse during an invasion.)
Not mentioning that upgrade too will take age if you have too little shipyard, and if you not in a end game situation, there a good chance to optain better equipement for your ship during a war and as much you can repair them, a good upgrade can be really necessary, same with having multiple fleet, especially when you start to have a lot of border to defend.
I buff my choke points and the immediate star systems next to them have a minimum of 2 shipyards each
@Strategiser2

that's also an option, if every starbase is a shipyard, can't take em all down!
I shall resist !!! I will have only one starbase that’s all shipyards. (A lot of play styles don’t require multiple shipyards).

Yeah, one thing to keep in mind is that Strat's tips are geared more towards multiplayer. In singleplayer there are a lot of less war-inclined builds that can also work.

True. Beating a competent version of the AI is a matter of diplomacy and economy. Beating players on the other hand tends to be pure carnage.

I'm loving the use of Ace Combat music
I usually end up having a dedicated ship yard starbase in my home sector and then 1 in each corner of my empire guarded by dedicated defense systems. Then when I get the megashipyard, I invariably set it up near to but never in the same system as a gateway. As long as I've got the alloys and minerals, I can usually have the build infrastructure to pump out dozens of ships all around my empire simultaneously. Fortress world habitats and weaponized citadels along chokepoints limits traditional invasion effectiveness, and having multiple assembly worlds means I can keep trucking even if I lose a sector or two. Then I usually end up losing anyways because I don't follow the meta and I'm shite at just about everything else, so one of the bots or the crisis or whatever usually ends up being better than me

Ever since the advent of planetary rings, I always turn them into small shipyards and repurpose my starbases that were shipyards for anchorages and trade stations at the nearest opportunity. Pretty much the only advantage I would get from doing this the other way around is I could install a module to give the ships more experience when they come out, and I'm not sure if it's worth losing out on doubling the naval cap or trade value given by the other module types.

The bonus that comes from the first 100 XP (from combat simulators) gives the ships +10% damage. That said, you can get 100 XP by using an edict, so it really matters only when you rush for veteran crews.
Nothing more satisfying than having two choke points hold half the galaxy w gateways and extra ship yards to boost reinforcements then letting the other half send everything they got feels like a forerunner human war video
Home system: shipyard Every other system: bastion Fleets: pure BB Loses: nonexistant
I do this instinctively from other RTS for the same reasons - faster reinforcements and repairs. I don't want to be caught pants down with alloys but insufficient build power. I also do gateways in shipyard clusters, which are usually centered in a cluster of planets/systems that are important. Anchorages go on starbases in nebulas that also have refineries and hydroponics.
i actually already do that but for the ancorage no problem just build the mega structure that allows you to have infinite naval capacity (you will never be able to build enough ships to be full after that)
I always make my starter system and systems around it into shipyard/naval systems. Especially ones with a Dyson sphere or ring world.
I always build multiple shipyards on a given war front. One at the border, a second within 2 jumps back, at every border system.
I turn all of the L Cluster into my shipyard sector. The only one I do not shipyardify is Terminal Egress, which I build up to be a bastion instead. Since you cannot access the L Cluster except through Terminal Egress, you cannot eliminate my ship building capabilities without taking it out, forcing it to be a massive chokepoint. Simply reinforce it to the point where it cannot be assailed, and you win.
Always steal other empire's megashipyards. I mean, generally speaking always steal any megastructures other empires make, expect maybe for sentry array and catapults because those suck, but definitely megashipyards in particular. I had 4 megashipyards in my last game. The endgame crisis didn't stand a chance. This game I have two so far, but more importantly I have 5 science nexus
I have individual Starbases (with shipyards) scattered equally throughout my territory. I often find that building new bases for them is unnecessary; you can just capture enemy territory and use/upgrade their shipyards.
Love the ace combat music
I tend to build fleet bases, with an inhabited, fortified world, one starbase with all yards, and then build up habitats and terraform worlds as my tech develops. A fleet treats the starbase as an anchorage, and its often a sector capital. It feels fluffy, and with proper development they aren't as tough to crack as a proper fortress system, but they can be a real speed bump, and hold out long enough for reinforcements to arrive.
The ace combat music in the background is goated

I suppose this is a problem because people simply _forget_ to build more shipyards at the beginning, particularly at the beginning. One of my opening moves is to swap out the Trade Hub for a Shipyard
I have shipyards at all of my chokepoint bases, if I feel tensions creeping up with a border species I start moving fleets to that base and start building more at that base. That way I always have 7 or so shipyards plus the one that you start with to feed any starbase at a conflict point. Once the relays are down its not much time for fleets to cross the system as they are built.
I have one shipyard. Mega shipyard. Going for achievement with winning the game as machine uprising, so that makes easier war of rebelion.
I like to raid the L cluster and then turn the gate system into a hulk of a defense zone, put my mega shipyard in there and all my other important megastructures, then open it up for public use and wait for some poor bastard to declare war, they not only lose access to the galactic highway but then have to deal with my allied nations surrounding them from every angle all while they can't do a thing to stop it
i mostly just build 2 shipyards next to another near the capital, its clean and easy to handle and the capital is almost always in the most inner defensive region of my empire, altough if my empire grows to a certain size i will build forward shipyards to reinforce during wars, atleast until i get hyperlanes, and i only really build hyperlanes if i am on the aggression rather then defense.
Only use the capital shipyard and fill the rest with trade-zones? Got it.
ideally just put a shipyard, gateway, and no hyper relyas in your sector capitals and you are good
In a previous game I managed to lock down a third of the galaxy behind some awesome choke points. Problem was figuring out how to defend all of this. In the end I decided to go with a fortress on the border and then behind it a station with shipyards ln it to act as FOB. Then I got gateways so I could have a shipyard spam in my coreworld.
Me, a single player enjoyer: "woah, this is worthless" (aside from when the Crisis hits, but at this point I do split my shipyards)
The Ace combat OST doesn't miss
I have multiple shipyards near gateways, using gateways near the borders to quickly move my fleets across the entire Empire
As a over confidence Chosen one who never played MP. Just take it from them
(Haven’t been able to play the new patch yet, so this is older info) In SP, I run multiple fleets (25 battleships and a titan, remember this is pre-new patch) each with its own starbase fortress to guard distinct borders, each starbase having 4 shipyards and a gateway, as well as a megashipyard close to the capital. Is that a good setup (aside from the fleet composition)?
What music have you used for the clip?
At least one shipyard per planet cluster
Teaching me how to play stellaris properly when.
What u say about fleet catapults? The things that should be built around neutron star
Hey guys remember when you could build fortresses
I always have a shipyard per sector capital world and a gateway
I generally try to ratio the amount of shipyards I have, something like 1 per every 8 or so until I get gateways.
In my last game I decided to build a Megashipyard and the quantum catapult in neighboring systems. You could say that the quantum catapult is kinda useless in the late game but when you are being invaded left and right by the crisis it did help to keep them occupy while I build my main fleets in my core worlds. By the end I had fleets scattered all over the empire and multiple shortages and rebellions but I saved Bikini Botton and that’s what it counts
Just have a starbase that is inpervious to invasion before declaring war. Then all your territories are completely safe, and I can have my one shipyard focused starbase.
you guys are telling me you dont have a defensive station followed by a shipyard directly behind it at each border with a designated fleet attached to it?
In one game I had a system with a total of 18 normal shipyards and a mega shipyard
lol i didn't even know that many people only use one shipyard i normaly have 5 stations full of them XD
What do you mean your core doesnt have mass shipyards with gateways to your borders and fobs?
This video is the most captain obvious I have ever seen.
