She PADDLES, She Paints | Inchcolm Island To Ourselves | Painting A Fuchsia in Watercolour | Ep36

Hello & welcome along on this walk! If you're new here - my name is Sarah and each week I head out on a walk with my faithful companion Jack Spaniels, to explore somewhere in this beautiful country of Scotland and hopefully find something to paint back in my studio at home.
This week we are doing something a bit different, as we go kayaking across to an island in the Firth of Forth - where the river meets the sea. Because of its strategic position at the mouth of the River Forth and close by to the city of Edinburgh, this island has a long and fascinating history - from the Romans, through to the First and Second World Wars.
There are also some unusual residents on the rocks surrounding the island...
I have wanted to paint a fuchsia blossom for a long time, as they are my favourite flowers. Today was my chance, so watch until the end of the video to see how I got on with this piece.
If you enjoyed this video and you haven't already, please do hit subscribe and check out my other videos - including the three special Skye episodes, where we explore some incredible Scottish scenery. Join me again next week as we explore somewhere else in Scotland and look for painting inspiration...

Well that was fun and different. Your talents never cease to amaze me, what a couple you are! It was all beautiful and fascinating, but Inchgnome Island was really cute, I think I liked it best. The fuchsia painting is beautiful, such vibrant colors. I'm so glad you had a chance to paint them since you said they are your favorite flowers. And, I can see why they would appeal to you so much as a child. That illustration you shared would definitely fire up a child's imagination. I remember hunting all over my yard for days after watching Darby O'Gill & The Little People when I was a kid. 😆Thank you for sharing the fun, and for including Jack even though he briefly lost the spotlight. 😊

Sarah, your castle tour was amazing! You are so tiny and athletic, you made it look easy to get through, but the doorways are short and stairways are tight! I'm claustrophobic, but I loved seeing you explore it! Thank you! I love your videos! Jack had such an adorable expression when you were explaining he would be going to visit Grandma! You have some excellent videos, this is no exception. I marvel at the amount of labor it must have taken to create such wonderful old structures, now slowly being eroded away by time. We can only imagine the activities that occurred within and around the walls. Fuchsias are one of my fathers favorite flowers, and mine as well. It is incredible to watch you paint, it's like a flower emerges from the paper as you dust it off with a small brush. Best wishes from across the pond!😊

That looked like a great place to explore while not many people can get there, the ww2 buildings and the abbey ruins looked so different, but both with interesting histories. And I loved the gnome island! They're persistent wee gnomes to claim the island as their own! 😂 The seals made me think of mermaid stories as well, I can see how people came to that conclusion when they heard them and didn't know any better. And your fuschia was absolutely gorgeous, when you mentioned flower fairies it brought back memories, I *loved* flower fairies, I had 3 of the dolls and you could clip wings on their backs, and I still have a load of scraps in a book of different flower fairies, they are gorgeous. When we went to Scotland, we visited a place called Inchmahome ( i think), a tiny island in the middle of a lake. It also had an Abby, and very old (yews?) supposedly dating back to William Wallace. We took a ferry, and our ferryman was related in some way to my mother's family name, Cowie. He called hus dad, and uncle, and told us he had an Aunt Phyllis Cowie in Pennsylvania. I am from PA, and my moms youngest brothers wife was Phyllis. HIS aunt was in Philadelphia, mine in a small town called DuBois. our ferryman gave us directions to the tiny town of Cowie, not far from Stirling. We had searched and asked for 10 days, and he helped us find it. Seeing your video, this is a very different, larger island and Abby though.

Ahaha oh dear! What is it with kids and sticking things up their nose…I just got your print back today, so it will be with you soon 😊 Thank you so much for buying it! I’m not sure if the guns were ever fired, but I do know that the first air attack on Britain in WW2 was over this area of the River Forth
