Every interaction between her and Bruce was so shocking to me. I could not believe how condescending she was. Her delivery and tone does not convey that she’s joking with him. I’m the first girl in my generation and have all male cousins- I genuinely cannot imagine a situation where I would ever speak to any one of them so casually cruel. The line where she spits out she’s “ infinitely better than you” just turned me entirely off to her character. I don’t know what woman would act like that? Or what woman would be so dead set on returning to normal life even after Bruce informs her that losing her temper could potentially end human lives. I feel like if anything a woman is more compassionate to people; this character is just so selfish. Nothing about her is strong. When I think of the MCU and a strong character, I think of Cap’s sacrifice by flying into the sea, I think of Natasha begging Clint to go back to his family and sacrificing herself, tony stark dying to save the world, Peter Parker saving the life of vulture, Peter Quill looking at Gamora, the woman he loves, in the eye, respecting her wishes, and fully intend on ending her life- other little moments come to mind but Marvel keeps butchering female characters (even after death like black widow). A strong character should be based off of their words and actions, which is why I relate to more of the male characters than the female ones. As a woman, I wish the MCU wouldn’t demonize traditionally feminine traits. It seems every strong female character is just a selfish, physically capable, overpowered, girl boss- to the point where if these same characters were men they wouldn’t be praised but labeled for being toxically masculine. Give me a realistic woman who struggles to achieve her goals, who is kind towards others, who doesn’t put the men around her down to raise herself up. I would kill for a female character who gets her shit rocked and has to learn defeat and how to adapt to fight. Mulan did this perfectly in the 90’s! I don’t idolize the woman who is perfect and gets everything right on the first go. I look up to the woman who has developed and over come the impossible, who works hard, and isn’t overly cocky about it.

@@mr.sensei6401 well and honestly how is she going to say women control their emotions infinitely more? Men literally are raised and told to not show emotion. To “man up”, “men don’t cry” and to suck it up. That’s why men don’t go get help and talk to therapists. Because it’s generally ingrained by society that for men it’s a weakness to have deep emotions or show them. Women tend also perceive men who show emotions as weak and unattractive as well. The whole women control their emotions more or better is absolute horse shit. It’s literally well known women are more emotional and get worked up. And you know what, that’s fine. But minimizing someone’s feelings or trauma like this bitch in the show does is offensive.

The fact that they were able to admit that and Disney didn't do anything about improving that aspect of the show pretty much speaks to what the main intention of what the series existed for in the first place. Social issues and social media can affect profits. So they're trying to make sure that they're on the good side of social media and prioritizing that over telling a good story, and they're using Disney+ in order to do that.

You'd think a lawyer, who sees the worst of the worst both in criminals and corruption in her own field, would talk about all of that when asked what makes her angry. Instead we learn that apparently juvenile, obnoxious men are her first and greatest frustration in the world. I mean Bruce had to flee his loved ones for fear of accidentally murdering them, he's been hunted down by governments everywhere, he's tried to commit suicide to escape his suffering, he has murdered tons of people as the Hulk against his will, and was basically in a coma for 2 years while a giant rage monster had complete control over his body. But fuck that, mansplaining is an infinitely worse form of suffering according to Marvel.

This is also the only iteration where She-Hulk isn’t constantly dealing with immense guilt, for somehow getting a better deal than her cousin. She doesn’t have an alter ego, but he does, and in every other version of the character, this is a constant source of guilt for her, and she uses both her powers and her abilities as a lawyer, to do all she can to help Bruce and the Hulk. So yeah, basically tell don’t show but worse, it’s tell and then show the opposite but pretend the tell is the actual truth by having other characters pretend too even though it’s out of character for then. You know, I initially (somewhat) defended this series from Matt Walsh as he was already putting her on his terrible "Top 5 Worst Superheroes" list, despite the series not being released. But I'm starting to see how right he was to do it. Holy shitobi is she a jerk! Like, man she has no self awareness at all! She claims that men cat calling her somehow makes her better at controlling her anger to Bruce Banner, a survivor of suicide, a man who was on the run from people who wanted him dead, a man who, if he got just a little to excited, could destroy an entire city, taking all its inhabitants with it. He has had to deal with the guilt of hulking out and killing people in both Avengers and Age of Ultron and probably before that. He lost two years of his life to the green beast. And she wants to come in and say that some jerks off the street whistling at her is worse than that. Cry me a river lady! Obviously that's bad, but that's like someone whose being bullied at school telling a war veteran that what they've been through is infinitely worse than what the limbless veteran's been through. Another thing, I find it hilarious how feminists will constantly say that men or conservatives are condescending jerks, when they and the characters they create are triple the amount of condescending they claim we are. The fact that she is so casual about it is just mind boggling. Bruce is trying to help you woman! This isn't a hero. This is a toxic, sexist, condescending jerk. Unlike Tony Stark when he became Iron Man, its treated as if its a positive of her character, which is actually frightening to think about. In the words of Thorias Unlimited, this is a feminist power fantasy.

This episode was so hard to get through, idk if I'll keep watching the series. That said, I think this show could be really great if this first episode was to show us toxic feminism and the rest of the series was Jen learning that these are her flaws and what she could learn from Bruce who has found balance doing his Zen thing. I find it unlikely that this is what they'll do just based on the response that those affiliated with the show are saying online when addressing the audience's own complaints. There is just so much contradicting writing in this first episode that the only logical way I could see the story going, and it being good, is that Jen tries to better herself after realizing she has a flawed worldview. In the comics Jen doesn't come off as someone with a lot of friends, so having her character be out of touch and basing her world view on stuff she heard or read online would be a great commentary they could go with. Then the brief experiences she has with a handful of guys, like in the show, leads her to believe "oh yea, all guys are douchebags". I hate to think that a show with promos showing off the inclusion of Daredevil, can have central themes like " men bad and emotionally weak, women better" when they've included two male heroes that have some very rough pasts. This whole first episode just has so many red flags, and hearing that it won't be focused on the Attorney At Law aspect is disappointing (hopefully they actually do it in DD's show). Jen is supposed to be a really good lawyer in the comics, so the fact that we don't get to see that aspect of her character is really detracting from enjoying this series. Oh yea Matt Murdock is gonna be in this show, the other really good lawyer, well shit.

I've watched both episodes so far and all the male characters are basically despicable people (with Banner being the one exception since I'm sure they wouldn't let the writers totally butcher a well-known character). Episode 2 is even a bait and switch where we see Emil Blonsky, who claims he's learned to control the abomination and become a better man. And I was thinking, well this is interesting maybe they're actually trying to make a somewhat decent male character... then in the twist ending, we learn that he was basically lying to her the whole time.

Man, Daredevil series made Karen Page such a multifaceted character. Every tense situation she is in, she had to use any means possible to survive or die trying. The series explored her flaws very sensitively while still retaining her personality. She knew she would not survive without any scars in her life when she killed Wesley or standing up to Fisk, yet she mustered up her courage to survive and seek redemption for actions. She is taking serious responsibility and weighing that burden on herself. Her character writing is at absolute best. But Captain Marvel and She Hulk uh? They suck in even delivering a credible personality to even justify their own existence. Their writing shows that they are not even respecting their own feminism which is itself a inherent divine power.

There's so many examples of well-written female characters that are able to prop up women without 1.making feminist the character's entire personality, and 2.tearing down men rather than elevating women, and marvel just keeps doing both over and over and over again. What She Hulk taught me about women based off first episode and trailers. They can't drive. They are arrogant. They think all men bad but want to do man things. They are superficial. They are stuck in their own bubble. They use tinder so they are most likely for the streets. They gossip instead of minding their own business. They think they are the only ones who get cat called. They think they are the only ones who deal with idiots telling them how to do their job. They think they are the only ones who will be called emotional for being emotional. They think they are the only ones who can be randomly murdered. They think they suppress anger more than men. They sexually objectify men while hating them. They are annoying and can't shut their mouth and just listen.

She belittles and mocks Hulk, who probably saved her life as well as another billions of people. The guy is like a worldwide savior, deserving of a kingdom and all the best in life provided by the people he saved(including her), but what she does? "F u, I'm better anyways because I'm a woman". You can have moments of Jennifer out doing the Hulk with him being jealous, as that actually fit with the Hulk's attitude.
