Rings Of Power Is A Travesty | Part 1

Фильм және анимация

The Rings Of Power is a pale imitation and sometimes-rip-off of Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings films.
I analyze the situation and review episodes 1 through 3 of the TV show.

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all. (credits:RegensDominor)

You, Sir, are a master and a scholar. We have all been deceived and have had our minds clouded by the will and desire of our hearts. I hold the lore of the many books closest to my heart. I then (sometimes to my detriment) hold the adaptations by Peter Jackson (miner of lore, forgetter of some) upon my sleeve. His whimsical and attractive visions being my entry into this world many years ago. But utter disgust takes a hold on me when I see this. There is PLENTY of story and lore in the silmarillion that can hold a true and happy audience than this... wargshit. Battles between Elves and Balrogs. Between men and Nazguul. Weapons with pure ancient magic to be forged and whole islands to fall out of existence. Dragons to be slain.... I can go on and on... this is a pure atrocity to the memory of J.R.R. Tolkien. I hope that they enjoy the fleeting monetary gain this gives them. Because it will not last.

Cate Blanchett nailed galadriel. She was feminine yet commanded massive respect. So elegant, graceful, and mysterious. Compounded by the fact that Cate Blanchett herself has poise, elegance and gravitas. Welshina Mcwhatshercunt on the other hand, seems woefully out of her depth everytime she's saddled with material that requires anything approaching subtlety. Galadriel was not allowed to return to Valinor until she rejected the One Ring in the trilogy. she was one of the remaining elves left that led the rebellion in Valinor to pursue Morgoth to middle earth and participated (duped) in the kinslaying at Aquallonde. That was why they were exiled by the gods. The story-arc of the elves in exile is ultimately one of redemption so they can return to Valinor. Galadriel is epic. Not because of her acts in the show. The real Galadriel is a princess of the Noldor or High Elves. She founded three elf kingdoms in her time in middle earth. She actually founded Ost in Edhil, the very place the rings of power were fashioned. During this time she was visited by a powerful lord of the Numenoreans who later became the 6. king of that realm. She was a sorceress and a politician. She was married with a poweful telerin prince and mother in law of Elrond. When Ost in Edhil was destroyed she retaliated in kind and sent for help to Numenore and Tar Minastir sent vast fleets at her behest to save Gil Galad and the elves and completely rout the forces of Sauron who afterwards did not have the manpower to seriously challenge the elves and men for almost a century. That was Galadriel! I would not have minded to be shown that Galadriel and not the whiny Mary Sue daughter of Karen we got!

Another amusing fact is imagine if they had unleashed what Galadriel was capable of if they followed the lore. You wouldn't get her dressed up as a soldier though... P.s I dont have anything against M.C. she seems like a competent actress but is severely disabled by the writing. I think a good collection of Tolkien fans absolutely would have knocked this out of the park. The difference is Tolkien fans would have had humility, because we would understand that we're not the equals of the professor and to use his words whenever and wherever we could. Personally, I would have loved to tackle the story of Annatar coming among the Elves and some of them (Celebrimbor and such) welcoming him and others (Gil-Galad for example) treating him with suspicion. That's where you could have had Galadriel shine, is she's one of the first to have a problem with Annatar and then she sends word to Gi-Galad that something is wrong with this guy and he bars him from Lindon, but they readily welcome him in Eregion. Anyways, that's my two cents. I would have also liked to see Celebrimbor and Elrond go to Khazad-Dum in the days when they and the Elves of Eregion were on good terms and they could literally walk into Moria at their leisure. We could see Celebrimbor know the guards at the gates and as they're walking in he's waving and shaking hands with everyone and the first thing Durin does when they arrive to talk is poor them all tankards of beer and they have to have a drink with him. So... the Tolkien Estate absolutely loathes Peter Jackson because, they claim, he did not do Tolkien's story justice. I guess they're happy with Amazon's handling of the lore. I can only imagine the producers bringing the script to the lore master and the lore master disagreeing with every decision made. So, instead of figuring out how to use the existing Tolkien story/characters and flesh it out, Amazon promptly fired their lore master, surrounded themselves with yes-men, and said "we can write whatever story we want without consequence"

Being constantly dirty, always rootling in the dirt for anything to eat, always starving and even stealing from any human garden they encounter. Racist much? Did these writers/showrunners never hear of the Irish Potato Famine? How poor Irish peasants, who lived in half buried hovels, were desperately rootling in the ground for their potato crop, the only thing that kept them alive, only to find the blight had rotted them all? Do they know about the one million men, women and children who starved to death and the additional one to two million who emigrated to America, desperate to escape starvation, only to find that they were compared to Blacks by American racists and deemed as low or even lower? Do these people know about the Irish Travelers, also known as 'tinkers' or 'Irish gypsies' (distinct from the Roma)? Oh, I'm sure they have some knowledge about these things, since when they thought 'migratory hobbits', they thought, 'living half in the ground, therefore dirty, secretive, therefore gypsy, always hungry and funny with their love for po-TA-toes, therefore Irish. Even black elves could have worked if they're Avari who migrated to the far South or east long time ago. I agree that it doesn't make much sense for the dwarves. The only explanation I could have is that their blood mixed with a different humanoid species thats black. But portraying different species like the Harfoots as multicultural when they're, in fact, isolated and live in medieval times, it doesn't make much sense. She is the leader but all the male elves she took with her on a dangerous mission to find Sauron were so incompetently trained they couldn't even handle a troll. Later, they end up turning against her. What does that say about a leader? They could have Galadriel ordering her men to get in formation when they see the troll, with one member distracting the troll with a torch, the other striking it with arrows, another striking with a sword, and then Galadriel using her magic to deliver the killing blow. It would have shown how excellent Galadriel had trained her men and how effective she is at leading them. She could have also shown them some compassion, maybe healing or tending to their wounds. Maybe one of the men gets seriously injuried and that's when she decides to turn back, for the sake of his health. That would have been a whole lot better than the apathetic, selfish, arrogant Galadriel who was willing to endanger the lives of her men so she can avenge her brother!

While I myself am little more than a layman in the topic, I've seen a few videos detailing all the things Howard Shore does to make the music work so well - and the fact is, just as the music works to enhance the movies, so too do the movies let the music BREATHE. The music isn't just there to tell the audience "YEAH THIS IS EPIIIIIIC" or "boohoo this is so saaad :(", the masterpieces of Howard Shore basically tell the same story the movies do, just in music form. His masterful use of leitmotifs is *legendary* and in contrast, the music in Rings of Power is just... Well, it feels... Basic. It's like they just ripped it out of a free stock music website. Personally I think this series is vitally important going forwards. From now on anyone involved in teaching creative writing, especially classes aimed at those seeking a career in film as writers, will have the perfect example of how not to do an adaptation. Pretty much everything about this series, the characters, dialogue, scene transitions, costumes, and so on are executed in a way that stands head and shoulders above the competition in awfulness. The amount of money this series stands to lose will also (one hopes) be an object lesson to all studio execs in the importance of choosing show runners with extreme care. Making sure that, when adapting a well-known IP in particular, you select those who both know and care about the original works and are passionate about creating a work that pays tribute to the source material in a way that can be recognised and respected by all who watch the adaptation. The Witcher series was bad (not counting Henry's portrayal of Geralt)....but Rings of power is just so much worse in almost every respect.

I really like how you watched the show, saw how Galadriel was a terrible person, saw how everyone repeatedly said she was a terrible person, then just ignored every single time she didn't get what she wanted because she was a bad person, and then declared her a Mary sue. I have no idea how you can watch this show and walk away thinking the writers wanted Galadriel to be revered by the audience as for much of the show she is hated by everyone around her and is only good at one thing, which is fighting. it is only after she heeds the advice of Halbrand does she even start to make progress towards her desires and the show ends with Galadriel falling back into her old personality, losing all the progress she made, and actively choosing to forge the rings so that she can get her revenge on Sauron, thus setting into motion the events that would doom thousands upon thousands of lives. Seriously, her dagger is a literal representation of all that is wrong with her, and what are the rings of power made out of? Her dagger. This is not stellar or complicated writing guys, anyone who approaches this show with some level of charity can figure it out.

@@PhoBos_____ These are literally quotes from the show runners. JD Payne: "Galadriel also says when she's offered the ring, "Instead of a Dark Lord, you would have a queen." She feels like she's experienced or anticipated this temptation for a long time. All of these things spoke to a long history with darkness, and more specifically with Sauron." JD Payne: "I think there has to be a reckoning. Even knowing that Sauron was partially involved in the science behind the making of the rings, we see her give the go-ahead to make the rings anyway. She also has to bear some responsibility; “I empowered the Dark Lord. I saved his life on a raft. I was party to him coming from obscurity to head an army.” That’s a lot she has to wrestle with and be accountable for. I think we can expect to see her having to pick up those threads and see how those decisions impact her various relationships." Patrick Mckay: " Season One has been a real journey for Galadriel emotionally. She was so sure that she was right, that this was her destiny, that this is the fight she had to have. When she's watching the ash cloud come toward her in Episode Seven, she really feels what a terrible mistake her pride has led her to make and pull so many people into. I love watching her and Theo in that episode. I really feel her reflecting on her own mistakes and counseling Theo not to make the same mistakes that she has made. But then in the eighth episode, we end with Elrond finding evidence that she lied to him. Her facing the consequences of that has not ended yet." It's very clear they intend for her to be a bad person in the story. What proof do you have of the writers intentions?

The Istari weren't allowed to really use their magic. There's great magic in this world and we touch on almost none of it. None of that came from the ring Nenya either, it was all her. And she's supposed to be wise, have foresight (seeing into the future) and basically entrance all that see her. The elves are absurdly enamored with her and they're normally familiar with such beauty. I think in this she has about as much charm and charisma as a rock thrown in your face.

The problem is once modern feminism gets involved you get the Rey route. Like Liv Taylor actress of Arwen said "You dont need a sword to know a character is strong". Who played a sorceress of sorts with her river Horses flushing out Nazgul unafraid. Its that modern feminism writing means take a position thats usually filled by a man so "Strong badass warrior". In this case they mix Aragorn and Legolas and put a Woman in it. Aka Galadriel. Next step is to fill every position of leadership with a woman or minority if they matter, the elven leader does not cuz Galadriel will be Queen of the elves by the end of it. She is always right, does not struggle and even threatens others and makes demands while unarmed and captured. And somehow does not end executed or inprisoned. Why? Because plot cannot let a mary sue get consequences for her actions. This lack of accountability comes from the personal belives extremists follow who write this shit. A sorceress thats level headed and unites doesnt scream Woman power, rebel against the system do a job better then all men (warrior) and still be the heroine because the plot makes me.

In Jackson's trilogy, Haldir gets less than 5 minutes of screentime and yet everytime I watch his death scene I feel absolutely terrible for Aragorn. It's baffling to me that even I as a regular member of the audience can figure out how I get attached to both these characters, but showrunners that are getting paid by AMAZON of all companies, can fucking not.

His father is Earendil, who succesfully sailed to Valinor, getting the Gods to intervene against Morgoth, and was then put into the skies as a star together with a Silmaril.) Saying Elrond (who isnt exactly stupid either) cant take part in some counsil because " he is no Elven Lord " is insultingly ridiculous and just plain dumb. That and I have no life. But I notice a lot of people calling this fan fiction, a rather unfair comparison really. While I admit I have never seen LOTR fan fiction though I'm 100% certain it exists. What I have seen is a lot of star wars fan fiction, another franchise I hold dear to my heart that has been butchered by identity politics and virtue signalling. And honestly some of the fan fiction is infinitely better than anything disney has come out with, the possible exception being Rogue One. Anyway I'm ranting while my dinner goes cold. But yeah, give a little credit to the fans because they produce some proper amazing content.

I have chosen to watch the extended edition of LoTR over the same time TRoP is running - what is apparent already is just the difference in the filmmaking art - Jackson and Fran spent a year rereading all Tolkien's source material and lovingly recreating the movies - they only made changes to help the movies flow - not because they wanted to 'be Tolkien' but because they understood how the movies needed to differ from the books (time) but always founded themselves they were writing for for an audience of people who loved the source material.
