When you said they should have gone with Yvonne's group from the beginning, there's kind of an implication at the end that she's the only one in her group that survived.

well i always thought she and her group had met the army and she came with them to The Winchester as she knew Shaun's group was there... also when she say 'glad somebody made it' that to me was just her not knowing what to say, so says that meaning 'well at least you didn't all die'... and the fact that she looks clean/the same as when you last see her, that suggests to me she hasn't been through much fight which if her group was wiped out she would look a mess and show signs of a fight like Shaun... i imagine straight after that scene with her group walking past Shaun's, she instantly finds the military who take her and her group to a safe zone before taking Yvonne back out to The Winchester.... but also Dianne survives so 3 of the 6 (7 if you count Phillip) of Shaun's group survive. Also i always get the idea that Barbara is passive as a zombie like her love for Shaun passives her until David pipes up and then she turns hostile

One of my favorite movies of all time, frankly one of the cleverest scripts ever written. Go back and catch all of the bits of foreshadowing and parallelisms. "You've got red on you." "Next time I see him, he's dead." "Go and live in the shed!" And, of course, Ed's speech when he's consoling Shaun where he lays out the whole film's plot: "“We’ll have a Bloody Mary first thing [Mary, the zombie in the backyard], a bite at the King’s Head [Phillip gets bitten in the head], couple at the Little Princess [they pick up Liz and co.], stagger back here [literally, as they shuffle back to the Winchester posing as zombies], and bang, back at the bar for shots [again, literally, as the shells pop off the bar and shoot zombies].” An insane amount of talent.

There are a lot more ties between the cornette trilogy than just Pegg, Frost, and Wright. Almost all of the main cast of spaced appears across them as well as a number of British actors like Martin Freeman who you pointed out in sotd and hf. I agree about the flat. People say it's easy to get cornered in there, and yes, that's a possibility. But if the zombies start coming up the stairs, how hard is it to simply grab something to bash them with, stand at the top of the stairs, and knock them back down one by one? Bonus points if there's a balcony behind them that they can fall off of (like where I live).

I hope you do watch ‘THE WORLD’S END’ again. It’s grossly underrated in my view, because the other two in the ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ are just superb. One thing I would advise upon a rewatch of ‘THE WORLD’S END’ is to be very vigilant. Everything is relevant, there are clues and allusions in almost every shot - and listen hard, because the wordplay in the movie is astonishing. Pegg says that it is an Arthurian quest movie - when you watch it, check out the surnames of each of the group of friends…

David's death in particular is very visually reminiscent of a famous death in Dawn of the Dead, one that takes place near an escalator in a mall. I love this movie. The way they seamlessly combine elements from different genres makes it feel almost like an art film. The scene where they take the stepdad in the car would've worked better if we hadn't only just met the mom. They hadn't really done enough by then to set her up as a sweet dingbat imo, but Shaun obviously wasn't in a big hurry to explain it to her. In general, I kind of liked that none of the characters had much backstory (except in a more-or-less typical British rom-com way), which kept it light at first but also served the creepiness pretty well when it needed to. I laughed out loud more often watching Hot Fuzz, I'll admit, but this is still my favorite of the three.

About Shaun hesitating to take out his mum: Shaun is very timid and passive and everyone around him has to tell him what to do (buy flowers, make dinner reservations, get your life figured out). The point of this movie, I think, is that he finally, FINALLY has to make choices and stick to them, and it takes a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE to get him to do that!

Great reaction to a great film! Before they did this film, Edgar Wright directed a TV series in the UK called "Spaced" that was co-written and co-starred Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, who plays Yvonne that he keeps running into, and there are a bunch of easter eggs in this film that call back to that series, which is great. They actually put out a casting call to the "Spaced" fan websites at the time and a bunch of zombies outside the Winchester were fans that were brought in for paid for about 1 pound a day to be extras. There was one episode of the series where they first got the idea to do a zombie film, which led to this film. There are also easter eggs to George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead", such as the opening music and the name of the store that Shaun works in, and the line that Ed says to Shaun's mom, "We're coming to get you Barbara" is a direct reference to a line in Romero's, "Night of the Living Dead". There's also a great book that came out last year called "You've Got Red on You" by Clark Collis, that is a complete look into the making of this film, which was a lot more difficult than I had imagined. I was lucky enough to get a bootleg copy of this film on VHS before it ever came out in the U.S. and knew nothing about it, and just fell in love with it. Definitely my favorite zombie film (although I currently think "Train to Busan" is the best zombie film ever).

If you like this a must to watch is “Spaced” with Simon Pegg. Classic, quick, clever … catch up and appreciate the genius. Tick tock, bing bing, cherp cherp, ring ring … lol

The Cornetto Trilogy! My fave has got to be Hot Fuzz. Still, all the films are fantastic and have their unique strengths. Each is also an interesting social commentary. For a Simon Pegg & Nick Frost film that's a bit less...intense, try Paul. It's one of the rare Seth Rogen performances I actually enjoy.

Well, that was fun! Not Edgar Wright, but Edgar Wright-adjacent is Joe Cornish's Attack the Block, which is a funny, scary and unique alien movie. Nick Frost is in it.

This is perfect ... Now do the next movie "Hot Fuzz" (the best one) It explores the "cop movie" tropes - as the perfect London police officer (played by Simon Pegg), is forced by Bill Nighy's Police Commisioner to move to a remote village in the countryside - Sandford, "village of the year" for the last 20 years running, with no crime at all! - because his arrest record is 400% higher than any other officer, and he's making them all "look bad". I promise youse both - it's worth it!

There's a psychology to feeling starved and eating when confronted with a corpse and I think killing as well that I've read as there is a psychology to stress and guilt eating. I digress I don't accept the "seems like a person idea" because I know we have a built in mechanism to detect to a human corpse and more be revulsed by it. This is a component of the Uncanny Valley effect. And I know personally one may as if they are starved after the experience yet the haunting scent may prevent a person from actually committing to eating. I couldn't and just chugging water to supplement. But when I watched this for the first time I noticed that and thought it was a very nice and smart touch, that they were gorging after they took down the Zeds I mean. Akin to the guilt eating in Avengers Endgame though not quite as poetic. Still, little bits and attention to detail in his films though are a treat.

I am a fan of Wright, Pegg and Frost, I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and especialy their two season mini series Spaced (2x 7 30 minutes episodes), but World's End did not really work for me. I can also recommend "Paul" not Edgar Wright but Pegg and Frost (and a huge cast of fun cameos) in a fun alien-roadmovie romp (written by Pegg and Frost).
