After the first few it was no longer about the story just the money. Sometimes they should stop or wait until they can come up with something better. They rushed them so they would come out just before Halloween seven years in a row. So planning that and filming corners will be cut.

The young guy who was chained up is Leigh Whanell.. He's the mind behind this wonderfully twisted gory treat..You might have seen him in INSIDIOUS as well as one of the two guys working for the woman psychic.. BTW, Request for an INSIDIOUS watchalong as well.. And SINISTER.. So lovely sweet sweet movies both.. As far as gore goes.. Hahahaha.. Eat my heart..
Steph, part of the reason horror villains don't always have a motive is that the point is how random life and death are. Knowing what drives a killer can humanize them to the point that they're no longer frightening. It's far harder to write a compelling villain when you see them as something reasonable, even if their reason is faulty.
no one does understand the horrific level of the last scene,i'm really surprised honestly, think about it:you are being closed in that room forever,no one will reach you, save you, just you,the room and the darkness forever, you will have to wait your death, its become horrible when you emphatize yourself at that situation
LMFAO steph screaming when he started hacking his foot off 😂😂😂
Even if you don't like this type of horror movies you cant deny the amazing production that went in to this. If you are interested in film making this is a movie to really study. Its absolutly genius how they managed the low budget, the editing to enhance the feelings of the viewer and the script.
The thing with the Saw franchise is that from outside it's expected to be just a horror/gore porn, but when you watch the first one you see that it is waaay more than that, and it gets even better after the second one

Yeah I feel they didn't try to enjoy it because they already had an opinion made before watching the movie. Ofcourse you can see them enjoy the twist but you can definitely see their preconceived opinion of it being meaningless torture porn have an effect on their viewing. Hopefully they understand how it's more of a dark mystery with people having their sins turned against them in the form of torture and a moral puzzle all at once.

@@williameleno i felt the same , i kind of felt uncomfortable watching them thinking it was gonna be torture porn the entire way. people who don't understand SAW , don't deserve SAW imo because there's no point in it if you can't understand the deeper story and plot just because you're scared of some fictional gore
it IS like an escape room - in fact this series was part of what influenced escape rooms becoming a thing and getting popular =)
@sandpiperr

Incorrect. Saw is not like an escape room, escape rooms are like Saw. Escape rooms didn't exist when Saw was made.
_"I mean, is losing a foot equate to cheating on your wife? I'm not sure."_ Based on some of your comments, I think you ARE sure! LOL You nailed it about the budget versus the result. This was a very low-budget production, yet the viewer still got the maximum effect due to the great direction and camera work. This is a very claustrophobic film with every scene shot in small rooms and space and low or dark lighting, but at the same time you can actually see what's going on. Also, you hit on it, the movie actually makes the viewer THINK and imagine and question themselves on what they would do in this situation. I will say on Leigh Whannell's acting as Adam, 2 scenes that I thought he really nailed were (1) Adam's terrible acting trying to fool Jigsaw into thinking he was dead and (2) the final scene of Adam yelling out in horror. The first scene was hilarious and the second scene felt incredibly raw and real. Not sure what Whannell channeled or James Wan did to get that perfect final scream out, but it sealed the final act of the film perfectly.
Glover and his partner didn't deserve to die which is why they weren't part of any game. They just showed up uninvited🤷♂ but great reaction, I hope you'll continue with 2 and 3 (the 4+ are whatever 😅)

Yeah, I was a little confused about his commentary on this plot point, but I guess he's saying that from a narrative standpoint, neither Tapp nor Singh deserved to die, but they're the detectives assigned to the case so of course their lives were always going to be at risk trying to catch Jigsaw.

The co-lead that jabi noted has a sub par acting / Ezra look alike (character = Adam) is Leigh Whannell. He is the Screenplay writer & co-story writer (co with James Wan) for this movie. In addition to the second and third installments (same duties except acting for the other two). This trilogy is an wonderful encapsulation of a great psychological crime thriller. The rest are just devoid of any story or narrative satisfaction these three movies offer.
i like how the actor playing Lawrence just gives up on the American accent by the 3rd act lol

"What's in the box, it's her head" thanks for spoiling me Seven
one thing about the Saw movies is that John is pretty loose with what he defines as being 'ungrateful for your life'. As much as he says that he talks about his own virtue, he's perfectly willing to stick people in traps who are only guilty by association. Allison and Diana obviously didn't do anything wrong but by John's reasoning, since they are the easiest thing to use to get to Lawrence he's willing to put their lives on the line. Once you get into the later series we see a lot more people in traps who definitely don't deserve it. If I lived in this world I'd be scared to forget to say bless you after someone sneezes because Jigsaw might crucify you for it (and yes that is about on the same level as some of the victims, it gets ridiculous) Even despite his immensely flawed logic, John Kramer is my favourite horror villain of all time. Perfect combination of madness and genius level intellect, with a backstory its very easy to sympathize with. Absolutely love the reaction and would be thrilled to see you watch the others
Fabulous reaction! I love watching people react to this movie! It was very low budget and shot in a short amount of time. And Saw was the First “escape room!” ❤
For the eyeball trap on SAW X, They wanted to bring back the atmosphere from Amandas reverse bear trap scene so they used the same tension building, camera angles & speed and color pallete of the 1st one. My new favorite trap by far
This is such a good movie. The very first time that I saw this movie was when it came out on DVD. It really had me on edge. This movie was first released 19 years ago in theaters. I really love all of your reaction to this movie for real.

I like when you say use escape room tactics. Saw is one of the reasons for the escape rooms' popularity. It was released 19 years ago. That's a year before KZread and a couple of years before the Google search engine really took off and knocked Yahoo out. Escape rooms got popular in the 2010s.

Thanks for your brave reaction guys. Not everyone can get through this masterpiece. What a surprise ending!
Fun Fact: The original idea for saw was made by two guys in their garage who sold the rights to the studio to make a movie. That's one of the reasons why the movie is so low budget, because the original two guys had a budget of about $25 when they made their original version
The Ezra Miller lookalike guy is Leigh Whannell. Co-creator of Saw and also Insidious along with James Wan.
I totally think Saw II is even better than the first. It goes more into Jigsaw and stands well as it's own story too.
Only Saw 8 and Spiral are slightly disconnected. Rest all of em are intertwined
The funny thing is the first movie is tame, it's more of a thriller who done it movie than horror. I almost feel like the sequels and prequels kind of hurt it by ramping up the violence. It's a wonderful movie on it's own. Not saying that none of the later movies aren't good.
Perfect reaction to release on Halloween! I watched this for the first time when I was 15 years old and I didn’t sleep soundly for days after that! But what I do genuinely love about these movies is that the villain John Kramer aka Jigsaw is A) Is the first “slasher” character who has never technically killed anyone himself, his victims lack the will to live; and B) He has an incredibly powerful message that he is trying to teach these people which is to cherish your life. That most people have sadly lost our Survival Instinct.
The other guy in the bathroom is Leigh Whannel, they guy who wrote this film.
The STYLE had nothing to do w/the ERA... I was there... it had to do w/they had less than 1.2 million to make the movie... so they improvise.. :) I can't believe they got Cary Elwes and Danny Glover for peanuts.... LOVE THIS MOVIE!
'Ezra Miller look alike' is Leigh Whannell, he's the best friend of James Wan, and one of the creators of the Saw franchise. He's also the famous Hollywood director, you might have seen his films Insidious 3, Upgrade and The Invisible Man. + he always works as a writer on James Wan films.
yall clearly dont understand what shooting someone in the knee will actually do there is a major artery in the knee and you could bleed out in minutes i believe under 5 minutes and your saying to shoot ppl in the knee like its easy to do also the ppl theyd be shooting in said knee have ppl that are captured and they need answers. and no shooting that chain will likely do nothing your more likely to hurt yourself

This franchise is amazing with many twists and turns and the new movie Saw X is fantastic Also you watched Jigsaw ( Saw 8, it had the barn ) Also kinda sad you didn't include more of the reveal at the end . For me the best part is finding out Jigsaw was the patient in the hospital bed but you skipped over that scene . Still great reaction and i hope you'll watch the rest as well
They’re more freaked out by the cleanliness than the gore 😂
This is such a scary and intense movie for real. And it has a lot of mystery.

Oh my gosh! No joke, I was actually watching youtubers/reactors watch Saw for the first time! Then I get this notification to you! Lol what timing!
The disrespect for Leigh Whannell.🤦🏾♀️
This movie is a gosh darn classic. Not James Wan's best movie, but my favorite of his. And the ending is just epic and exhilarating!
This is probably the most tensed up I've seen Steph.
I did a "Saw" themed escape room once, it was fun especially when you're seen the movies!
What is super fuckin cool is that SAW was an independent movie project between two Australian film school classmates and buddies James Wan (director) and Leigh Whanell (writer and lead role as Adam) who, after this, went on to have huge careers - Wan is making high budget Fast & Furious and Marvel movies and Whanell is making DC movies. So cool!
The cops had to die because they were getting in the way of the plan. Also Hello Zepp the theme at the end of the movie is one of the best themes ever composed up there with The Exorcist and Halloween. Love the twist ending.
Wooohooo! Steph is back! And reacting with Jaby, watching Saw? Hell yea!!
I bet that detective was thinking I'm too old for this
Leigh wannel was Adam aka the writer and James Wan's best friend
There are parts in 7 that lead back to 1. Very cool
4:46 ‘It’s like an escape room.’ Yes, the very first one and it came from the minds of the man waking up in the bathtub and the guy directing the camera.
I avoid watching saw back then when i was kid but now as an adult it's my one of the favourite franchise

Some people do not problem solve as quickly as others and just because you think you do, it doesn’t mean it’s the right solution or that you’d survive unscathed.
I never connected saw to a chainsaw....😅
