One thing I love about this movie is that every little detail had a reason behind it. Like when Finn heard the blood dripping and saw the boy floating, it's because the ghost didn't want to ring the phone and risk waking the grabber from his sleep. That's why his floating body pointed to the phone silently.

@@gabe2902 you're right. But I wonder if that applies to the supernatural ringing of the phone, especially since it was stressed repeatedly that only Finn and the Grabber can hear it.

What I found to be unique about Finn's escape is that it required the use of all the other children's failed attempts to escape combined. Heard there was a sequel potentially in the works for this film, that I would certainly be onboard for giving a look.

Jason Blum produced “The Black Phone” under his Blum House Production. The yellow raincoat reference to the character Georgie in “It” was a tribute to writer Joe Hill’s father, Stephen King. The director is Scott Derrickson, who directed “Sinister” with Ethan Hawk, and the brother character Max actor was the cop in “Sinister,” as well.

Love this film. I’m actually glad they kept his backstory a mystery and implied his ritual he is playing out what happened to him like you said and goes further than what is told and seen said the director. Mask was one and separated - had a black expressionless one, sad, and smile all interchangeable. I think he wears it cause he’s disgusted by himself, maybe a split personality, but he freaked out when taken off. Y’all jumped or got taken aback by kid upside down blood dripping from his throat. There’s also a Black Phone 2 coming maybe we’ll get more or Grabber goes supernatural and a way to bring Ethan back and those awesome kids with the abilities

As a big fan of Ethan Hawk I’m surprised you didn’t see the connections w/ Sinister. Same director, same 2 actors, same music score artist. Similarly a small story. Same guy made Dr Strange.

Bullies like those kids are accurate I was the kid always getting jumped for just being there. I was chased home with half the school outside my house taunting me to come out and the day they acually got me my mom had to take me to the ER. All the bully scenes where super relatable for me.

Love the detail in this movie. The way the plan comes together in the way it does. Each kid being a piece to the puzzle. Its so good. Finney is only able to survive because of that... and the fact he does have powers of some sort like his sister. The mom did, and passed it on to them both. The dad is acting out because of the sadness of losing his wife it seems... and truly believes his wife was probably crazy, so he doesnt want his kids being the same way the mom was in the end. I think he does really love them... but being constantly drunk makes him act like a fool and lash out at them both. Finney doesnt know he has powers to see things like his sister... so he manifests it as phone calls through the "black phone" as a way to make sense of it all in his mind I believe. Just all really well done. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this when I saw it the first time.

This was a really good movie and I got pulled into and became invested in the main brother and sister characters. That scene with the father whooping the little girl for the stupidest reason really pissed me off. I know that most kids the brother's age aren't like me but there is no way in hell I would've stood there and let my little sister get a whooping like that. I would've done something to make him stop or at least take his attention off her. I didn't even see that all the encounters with the other kids were part of the finale showdown until later. Normally I can see stuff like that so they hid it well. Enjoyed this movie and the reaction 👍👍✌ out.

Hmmm.. ..You guys missed the point of the film. The film wasn't about the Grabber or the dead boys. It was about Finn and his character arc. Everything else that was in the movie were ancillary props to serve that particular story. That's why the name of the film is "The Black Phone" and not "The Grabber". The phone is the main tool/vehicle of Finn's escape, in a myriad of ways.

This movie creeped me out bigtime and made me so scared the whole time. Especially being a mother. Also it's not confirmed why the Grabber is broken. Whether it was due to his own child abuse OR if he had a normal childhood & still ended up broken (Which is even scarier, when you think about it). It's not confirmed because like Ethan Hawke said himself, "because it doesn't matter why he's broken, what matters is he IS broken." The movie shows the Grabber was a sick paedophile that murders his victims after they play his "naughty boy" game. They made a few subtle signs to show what he was, hence why he was shirtless, & why one victim mentions the grabbers "favourite" part of naughty boy etc. Also noticed that the Grabber did, in fact pick certain types of kids. The Grabber only picks boys and notice how they all have long hair, that he can play with.😖
