Was that good timing, or what?! The first 24 hours with my new continuous glucose monitor has proven very helpful! What is a tool in your life that you find super helpful? A blender? A remote car starter? An iron? Let me know in the comments! Oh, I think Peter’s answer would be that little remote beeper that tells him where his keys are :)

Sounds like that device could help a lot of people. I hope insurance companies catch on quickly that it's better than paying for an ER visit for a brittle diabetic or someone having a severe low blood sugar reaction.

So, Mary - in my experience, the abdomen hurts less to inject but I felt it all week. When I switched to my arm it hurt more to inject, but less during the week. Also, don’t rely on Dexcom 100% until you get used to it. You will learn its quirks.

Mary, I'm going thru some rough stuff right now and I always keep in mind that, this too shall pass but we just got done a series at church and it was speaking about the add-ons (so to speak) to your Christianity such as Godliness, brotherly kindness, etc and I've really opened my eyes to things that I need to start doing, things that I need to change, ways of doing things, etc. I've also struggled with illness (battled cancer 3 times, finally ending with a stem cell transplant) & I've had several residual issues since being home from the SCT, so in watching some of your videos I feel like I'm watching bits of my life (hospital stays, ports, levels, saline flushes, etc). I haven't been watching for a little bit and just started back the other day, yesterday I watched your going home video, back tracked and watched the video on why you couldn't go home when expected and then today and one thing that I've heard from you over and over is, "I'm grateful for." You amaze me. It's amazing what we do when we go into survival mode and though mine ended in 09 yours is something that is longer but you are amazing in being focused, keeping your eye on the Lord and drawing his strength and to listen to you be grateful all the while living with CF you not only inspire me, you show me I can be better. I can not let the little things that trip me up, be just that, little things. I imagine having such a solid partner in Christ is a great source of strength as well. This message may have come out long and jumbled (not my intention) but I want you to know that you're helping someone in life navigate they times that I just wanna scream and throw up my hands. I appreciate you and if I watch you for nothing more, it will be too draw strength and keep focus. You're amazing. Peter is amazing. Even Ollie boy is amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ✝️♥️💯 P.S. My youngest daughter name is Danika.☺️

The Frey Life So glad you are home and things are going well. I wore the Dexcom as an experiment for my job and it was an eye opening experience. When you are low it is best to have 15 grams of simple carbs - juice, glucose tabs, regular soda, hard candies, etc instead of something with fat/protein. It will bring your blood sugar up faster; then you can have something with fat/protein. Not realizing you are low is called hypoglycemia unaware - it is common when you go low too often. Once you are not low so often you will feel it again. Good luck... :)

So Glad for you! My blood sugar lows were regularly in the 30's and 40's before I started using a CGM 2 years ago. As far as the differences, G5 has a marginally higher profile than the G4 transmitter. G4 life expectancy is 6 months but the G5 has to be replaced every 3 months. Same device for insertion. Best part is the trends you can track and also that life-saving ARROWS and alerts!

Hey Mary!! So as a dexcom user myself, I just wanted to let you know that there's usually a couple minute lag time between what your receiver says and what your sugars actually are. Just to be on the safe side, if I'm ever 60 or below I always check my sugar by pricking my finger just to make sure I'm not at a dangerous zone

I have had the same thoughts as the nurse ! lol I am always so shocked that you are "functioning" when your blood sugar is so low! About 3 years ago, I had a major blood sugar attack/drop, down in the low 40's....while I was driving to work. Wrecked my car, I passed out from my sugar being so low , woke up and was clueless as to what just happened. Just goes to prove everyone's body reacts differently! Glad to see you are getting it under control. Love you guys !

Mary, gosh if you lived closer I would bring you a basket full of glucose tablets, peanut butter, things with high protein. I have gotten as low as 28 with my diabetes. Glucose tablets are good when you are out and about and may not have time to eat some carbs. They taste like Tums literally. I get them at any pharmacy. Maybe that is something you can try. You are awesome though. I have had a resistant UTI for 2 weeks now and we are getting the "needing IV medication stage" if this Cipro doesn't work. But I remembered your quote, "Do what you think you can't do". With help I did my grocery shopping and a little Christmas shopping. I feel accomplished. Thank you for the inspiration. I may not have the same disease as you, but we both are Chronic Illness Survivors and Thrivers. I watch you every night and I always leave inspired and my attitude improves. As much as you go through and still have a smile helps me do what I think I can't. Thank you and big hugs.

It’s cause they don’t want people to think that their insurance will pay for the phone to run the Dexcom g5. I know having a bunch of medical equipment can be boring with the bland colors and stuff but they do have stickers to go on the receiver and transmitter pump peelz is the best site I’ve found to add a little flair to my CGM

I am quite crippled up with osteo arthritis so I really appreciate not having to get in and out of the car 🚗 to open and close my garage. Dexcom insertion tip - weirdly, it's a lot less painful if you insert it quickly, tapping the top of the inserter with the palm of your hand. I have tried it very slowly, quickly, and with this technique - for whatever reason, doing it as a "tap" insertion almost ensures a pain-free insertion. Also - you can usually wear the sensor for longer than 7 days - if it's a good sensor (working well), start a new session when prompted with the old sensor still in. Also, grifgrips make great adhesive covers (some people wear sensors for 30+ days thanks to good adhesive!!).

That Dexcom is amazing! My doctor said tylenol affects the numbers on Dexcom, has your doctor said this with you taking Tylenol? I was at hospital last week waiting for pft’s and all of a sudden felt my sugar dropping, it was at 41! Lots of juice and came right up 😊😊

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Dexcom! It has really helped me understand my CFRD! Do you use the receiver or your iphone for the readings? I find that using my iphone is 10x more convenient and faster for me to enter in data.

Tip. At end of week when it says to start a new sensor just click ok and leave it then it will do the warm up and you won’t have to reinsert unless adhesive wears off but I use rockadex for that

Mary I have diabetes and gastroenteritis, so sometime when I just need a snack, I still go low because my gut did not digest it quick enough, try having a quick carb snack like the gummies and then a protein snack that has no carbs in it like cheese or an egg to hold the increase the gummies ga e you. I always use juice or honey because they seem to work even when my gut is not working to its fullest. I would love a dex com but they are not cover by my insurance. Glad it is helping you!

Welcome hone! Isn't it wonderful to sleep in your own bed again? Hey, that's my favorite flavor of granola bar too. I just found a great recipe to make my own granola bars with oats, nuts, cranberries, chocolate chips and whatever else I want to add. Love to the 3 of you.

Just FYI Tylenol makes the Dexcom inaccurate. If you find your numbers not matching up make sure you aren’t using Tylenol.

Since Mary has talked about her significant liver disease, she may not take Tylenol at all.

She takes something OTC for headaches, but I don't recall if it's Tylenol. I think maybe it is. And I've been hearing commercials on local radio that refer to Dexcom and the acetaminaphen affect, so I popped down here to the comments to see if someone already mentioned it. Mary has a great medical team, so I'm sure they've covered it. And if they haven't, she'll see our comments and check with her team. :-)

You two remind me of how me and my wife were...she was sick with chronic Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis for 5 years...she was on oxygen 24/7...so many doctors, so many appointments, and so many oxygen tanks. She passed in February...I know exactly what you two are going through...stay strong you two ❤️
