The style isn't caribbean, it is called Tex-Mex Cumbia, Selena was one of the best singers of that type of music in the 90s. Tex-Mex Cumbia comes from southern Texas and North-east Mexico.

I was in Texas back in the 90s and my friends introduced me to Tejano music. They took me to many clubs and we danced many cumbias. La Mafia, Emilio Navaira, La Tropa F, etc. and even a Bobby Pulido concert. ¡Fue la hostia!

Just south Texas. We never liked Tex-Mex here in Mexico. That's why she switched to more Mexican sounds and she exploded with this song but she was very popular before that.

23 years old. i could never even dream of having such an impact that Selena has had in the world at that age. She really was blessed by God to inspire people.
Yes here in TEXAS it's called CUMBIA TEJANA.... SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF CUMBIA and even after death there's not another female tejano singer that come close to her.... FOREVER SELENA
Simply devastating loss. She brought so much joy to so many. May she Rest In Peace. Your memory and music live on Selena!
This was called Tejano Music and they mixed what is also called Cumbia and this was a family band, her brother play the bass and songwriter, sister drums and his husband was the guitar player, also his dad was her manager. She sang at a very young age as well and just so you know, she was Latina born in Texas. She actually didn’t speak good Spanish but sang it very fluently.
This definitely wasn’t the best song to see the power of her voice. This was also the last song she sang after a 2+ hour show of Im not mistaken. She performed straight no brakes no water. So she was most likely tired.

This was the closing song of her last concert. She had a great ability to sing, dance and connect with her audience. Beautiful all around.
You need to watch the movie “selena” starring Jennifer Lopez. It was a made about a year or two after her death with the help of her family. You’ll understand why we’re obsessed with Selenas!
No existía cuando ella estaba aún en vida. Nací años después y sinceramente es una lástima que haya terminado de triste manera. Tuvo un gran talento, ella ya está cantando en el cielo.
Im from Texas.. Houston Texas and I went to see her at The astrodome in 1992 when “Como La Flor” album came out. I was 9-10 years old. To this DAY best concert I’ve ever been too!!! And I live in Austin Tx go to Music festivals all the time.
Yeah, Selena was absolutely gorgeous beyond words, and her voice, singing, dancing, self-designed clothes, and most important, her rapport with her audience in the Astrodome and out -- brook no comparand. She was the hero and darling of a huge community, and on her way to being the darling of the world, and in a maturity she was denied, who can even imagine. Watching her perfected self and art at the Astrodome feels like watching Christ at the Sermon on the Mount, knowing, as she did not, that Golgotha lay only a month away. So perfect and all-inclusive was her love that she trusted when she shouldn't have, but, somehow, it is we, humanity, who proved not perfect enough to have this angel dwell among us for long.
I love seeing people discover Selena and how great of a talent she was and still is! Muchos besos from here in Corpus Christi, the hometown of our beloved Selena Quintanilla💜🌹
Por lo que veo la mayoría es puro suscriptor Mexicano de Mr. Valchiria. That is fantástic!!!

My mom and I got to meet her in 1992 in my hometown of Poteet, TX. My mom embarrassed me in front of her😑😋. She told Selena that I had cried to come see her because we were supposed to go visit my abuelita (grandmother) but I wanted to see her so badly. We laughed 😂 Before see went on stage, “she said bye mijo” 👋🏼I got to see her again in 1993. I missed her last performance in 1994 😭 I hold these memories so dear ♥️♥️♥️
"the bountifulness of her hips and butt..." Frank you are killing me. I have never laughed so much at one of your videos . Lol. Selena is from my home town. I grew up knowing all about her and her clothing boutique was less than a mile from my house. I was horrified when she was killed and remember nearly falling to my knees when I heard the news. She was such a beautiful and genuine person with a wonderful voice. Thank you for reacting to her. This is taking me down memory lane :-)
This was an honest reaction. I totally and completely appreciate that you're honest and open with your reaction to this video. The parts you didn't care for, you clearly stated that you didn't care for it. The parts that you lie to, you clearly stated that you liked. I appreciate your honesty and your genuineness pannier review.
I have always loved the fact that you don't have to know whatever language the song is being sung in to just enjoy the energy and vibe. And face it, Selena was the personification of energy. She was just so much fun to watch.
She was an all package. Our beautiful queen. RIP
Selena's life was cut short. Her genre is Tejano music and also Cumbia. She became famous for her spanish and english hits. For having such a short career, she has become an icon in the USA. That sinthesizer sound you don't like is prevelent in most cumbia music. Lol
Selena will live forever !!! She was way ahead of her time !!🙏🏼 if she was alive I’m sure she would have dominated the English and Spanish market
"I want a kiss too, why not me" 😂😂😂
Selena!!!!😍😍 She was the late 80', 90's Techno-Cumbia, Tex-Mex Style, Crossover, Disco and Ranchera Queen of music. She designed her own clothes and this was her last performance cause she was murdered later that night. If you think about it, before she came along Booties were non existent, after her every woman wanted those curves, as is the trend today. Listen to her Disco tribute, she was influenced by Donna Summer, but who wasn't🤷♀️🤷♀️ R.I.P Beautiful Selena🙏😍😍 Thank you, Frank.👍💯

She is one of the icons of Latin music Very successful business and unforgettable human being ! Definitely one of MEXICAN-AMERICAN irreplaceable star🌟
She is saying thank you for making this song #1 in USA and Mexico
I wish people would react to see more of her videos of her other stuff not just the ones that we know of all the time from the movie.. she did a whole bunch of other English songs "captive Heart" is one of my favorite and also "a boy like that" which was also used in a Infamous Broadway show and movie she did a bunch of other English songs but "captive Heart" really shows her vocal range and her abilities that just shock you

That's just the way she was. Unfortunately she was taken from us in a very cruel way on March 31st 1995 (my 7th bday) and as the years go by she keeps getting more and more fans!!!!

Hi Frank. That's right, the genre is called "Cumbia." Selena became a legend, when she was on top she was killed by a fanatic lover. Jennifer Lopez made a Selena movie. Selena's brother, AB, who plays bass, founded a cumbia band, called "Kumbia Kings." He had relative success about 15 years ago.
Hermosa Selena, muy buenas sus canciones!!!!
I love Selena
Say it don't be afraid, that she was beautiful good
Frank, Selena's performance was at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston, Texas USA. The stage is portable so it can be taken down fast for the next day events. There was a big screen in the middle of the stadium as well. This concert broke the attendance record at the Houston Astrodome with 65,000 people in attendance. I missed buying a ticket for that night, was two people behind before the ticket office closed. I just said to myself, well I went last year, I can wait for next year. the concert was on February 1995, she was murdered on March 31, 1995, she was 23 years old. It was such a sad and rainy day in Houston that day. The whole state of Texas and the Latino community as well as Mexico and Puerto Rico mourned for the the Loss of Selena Quintanilla-Perez "The Queen of Tejano Music." In Texas we don't call it Tex-Mex, we call it Tejano, pronounced in Spanish for Texas.
