My 18yr old son's 20 year old friend (a kid I've knew since she was 6) was murdered in March she was shot and we still don't know the reason. Her mother asked everyone to please bring a photo of themselves & Breonna tester her in Johnson City Tennessee asked all her friends to put pics in the casket with her so she would never be alone there were so so many photos then all her friends signed her casket before it was lowered in the ground Definitely one of the saddest services I've been to her friends visit her grave every weekend.. sad

My Mom always had a cup of coffee in her hand. We had a coffee cup made with a picture of all of her children to be buried with her. Inside of the cup were pictures of my Dad, grandchildren, other family members and friends. When Dad died, he got pictures and a bottle of whiskey. Both wonderful parents!

My son died at 30. His 6 year old daughter wrote him a note of how much she loved him, which I still think is so sweet. She had me put it in his hands. She said he will always be able to know how much she loves him. He was cremated with the note.

There was a picture of his favorite dog, a con of skill, a pocket knife, his rosary, a fishing line, his favorite hat and of pictures of his entire family! All done with love ❤️

I watched a video this week talking about a guy who was buried on his favorite Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was propped up on it and the motorcycle was inside a plexiglass crate that could be seen by all attending the funeral. A crane lifted this and set the whole thing in a huge plot with the rider pointed to the East.

When my beloved daddy passed away, I ask the florist to give me one red rose and a message for him on it. He called me “Doll” until I was well into my teens. So the florist put the name doll in gold script & stapled it to the rose. The next day I went to the mausoleum & all the baskets of flowers were gone…except my gift to him. It was to stay in the casket & be buried with him. So..how did that rose with doll on it get out of the casket….AND was the only flower laying in front of his grave? I’ll never know now…..

A close frend of mine's sister died from luekemia in the late 1990's.. during her treatment at Duke University, she was frequently sedated and under the influence of morphine. One day, my friend was sitting with her and they saw a news story about the Oscar Meyer Weiner mobile, she was fascinated and said her make a wish was to drive the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile. sadly, she did not get her wish, so my friend put a Hot Wheels Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile toy car in her casket, along with her loved Snoopy stuffed animal.

President John F Kennedy was an avid collector of scrimshaw. His wife had the Presidential Seal engraved on an antique tooth from a bull whale Jacqueline had given to him for Christmas, and it was buried with him. Harry Houdini wrote several letters to his mom when he started his career in magic, and kept those letters after she passed away. He was laid to rest with a ‘pillow’ of his mom Cecilia’s loving letters cradling his head.

I enjoy all the cemetery tours done by different folk. I used to live in the Silicon Valley and I visited different cemeteries around the SF Bay Area. I was surprised to find Tennessee Earnie Ford's grave in a small cemetery in Palo Alto. In that same cemetery is Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs and HP co-founder David Packard. In Colma (cemetery capital of the world) in south San Francisco I found Wyatt Earp's grave and Joe DiMaggio's grave. When I lived on the Monterey Peninsula I found Dr. Eric Berne's grave (I'm OK, You're OK author; transactional analysis creator) in the Pacific Grove cemetery, and in the Monterey cemetery I found Richard Farina's grave (Joan Baez' brother-in-law). Funny how famous/infamous people are buried in towns you'd never expect them to be buried in.
