I am Aramean, speaking Syriac (Aramaic)
Sir I read your book 'Luminous eye' in my own language Malayalam. It's a wonderful gift for us. May God bless you sir. It's very easy to , because we have several poems in our traditional worship. My native is in Kerala and I am an Orthodox Christian. Thanks🙏
Latin-legal and canon law side Greek-philosophical side Syriac-poetic side
Been reading Brock´s book on The Luminous Eye...the spiritual world vision of St Ephrem the Syrian. Enjoying it thoroughly.
Can I translated a Chinese subtitle and publish on the social media please? I am a Syriac theology enthusiast from China.

the best place to do the interview was a noisy hallway?? can hardly hear the quesions
Благодарим за просвещение!
Sorry to say that billy j roth does have a point. The Questions are indeed barely audible. Fortunately Dr Brock's answers are so comprehensive, that one can pretty well guess what the Question probably was.
you realize that by "Syriac Tradition" he means: Church of the East, Chaldean Church, Syriac Orthodox Church, (Who are Mesopotamian), Maronite Church (Who are from Lebanon), Malabar and Malankara Churches (Who are from India) .... So when you say "Syriac Church" are "Arameans" who do you include in your definition ... cause Indians under the Syriac churches are NOT Aramean nor Assyrian

But we preserve the most old dielect of east syriac, and old liturgical tune. The syro malabar church uses 2nd centuary pronunciation of east syriac aramaic, and all other assyrian churches from east now uses post 14th centuary pronunciation and also the aramaic tunes are affected by arabic tunes, but not for indian church, the old tune and old pronunciation is preserved there

Understood, but you do know that Syrians did settle in Malankara (Kerala, India) and many have married within the communities. My grandmother (blessed memory) looks Syrian.

Our scripture readings based on Syriac texts has placed a good foundation on Christian way of life.. Kottayam in Kerala State follows the Syrian orthodox culture.
S. Brock is one of the author of the documentary: The HIdden pearl: 3000 years of Aramean history. He always confirm like the patriach of the Syriac Church that the Syriacs are the Arameans.

Can someone please tell me the name of the first writer he recommended? The one he said had an ecological bent to his writing??? I'd like to look up his writings. Also, I couldn't make out the name of the publisher he recommended for further study by the general public of the Syriac Church. It sounded something like "Vladimia's (something) Press. It was just near the end that he mentioned it.

@@paidagogos79 Thank you very, much. I bought The Luminous Eye, but haven't read it yet. God Bless You.
to be honest i don't nearly have to time for that, so can you please explain when/how he said that?
3/08 Very Important point Often Forgotten /Until 17 Century Syriac used in Chalcedon Orthodoxy Patriarch in Antioch Not just Nestorian Persian Church of East or Syrian Coptic Church/Oriental Church Also Terrible Confusion between Phusis/Nature and Hypostasis that meant different things 4/22 Interesting Oxford when this video was made 11 years ago only University have Masters Degree in Syriac Did Professor Brock student David Taylor succeed him? Also Saint Ephrem in Kerala Cardinal Wiseman studied Syriac and often wonder what led him to this interest likewise Professor Brock or any Westerner?
To subscribe , authentic international journal named "Christian Orient" Published from Paurastya Vidyapeedam, kottayam( St.Thomas Apostolic Seminary,Vadavathoor)

arameans sound close to armenians would you know why?
To pbfan99, Assur History, YusefAlTahir and Assyrianland2. It is so sad that you can not contribute anything of value anywhere there intelligent topics discussed, you always manage to be offended and proud of calling yourselves this and that. Do yourself a favor and do the world a favor, if you have nothing of value to say don't make a fool of yourself and let those like Sebastian Brock and others who've spent their life studying, researching and teaching, listen and learn. And yes, I am Assyrian but don't really care what label you can add.
Thats thrue: We syriac orthodox are Arameans.
I agree with this guy but their is a fourth ancient tradition.
