So, 4th century speculation on Jesus’ earthly priesthood has remote and vague similarities but isn’t very helpful for supporting the LDS doctrine on priesthood authority. With literally thousands of pages of preserved ancient writings, isn’t it striking that no early Christian has even the slightest idea that such a concept ever existed from the days of the apostles. Of course, this is in complete harmony with the testimony of David Whitmer - that the doctrine of Mormon priesthood authority was contrived and originated in the mind of Sidney Rigdon. But let’s sweep this unpleasant fact under the rug. We wouldn’t want to upset the apple cart, would we.
