The biggest Christian country in the world is . . . China?

The Christian church has grown faster in China than in any other country in world history. Experts believe that China may already be the biggest Christian country in the world, and certainly will be by the end of this decade.
The China government does officially license churches, and have established what are called the "Three Self Patriotic Movement Churches" across China.
Almost all the growth, however, comes from small, unregistered "house churches". Believers meet in homes or offices, or in basements, or even outdoors or in public spaces such as coffee shops. When the group outgrows their location, they simply divide, and continue separately.
The church growth here is evident, and people of faith are confidently taking on positions in business and industry, higher education, and in government.
A team at Boston University is using Big Data to map the growth of the Christian faith in China over the past decades. Their story is here: www.bu.edu/articles/2023/why-...
Fenggang Yang, a professor of sociology at Purdue University and author of "Religion in China: Survival and Revival under Communist Rule", assessed in 2014 that China would soon pass the United States, and become the world's largest Christian country. His story appeared in the Christian Post, here: www.christianpost.com/news/ch.... The Global Dispatch also quotes Yang: www.theglobaldispatch.com/chr...

Thanks for this Kevin. My eyes are open now. But I suspect there are different flavors of Christians. For instance, I honor mainly the teachings of Jesus related to love, as in "Love your enemy." That makes much sense because of the blindness imposed by tribal hatred in conflict. We must love our enemies enough to earnestly try to understand our different perspectives. Zionism raises a disquieting thought because there is a history of Dr. Sun Yat-sen seeing Zionism as a civilizing inspiration for China - as if China needs a model for civilization from the west. I balk at organized Christianity because of its evangelical zionist militancy, propaganda and tribal coercion for solidarity. That's not my idea of Christianity nor, I suspect, that of Jesus. Isn't this just another form of american evangelism to destabilize China and pit citizen against citizen? Or are Chinese Christians seeing a third way?

Giving out free stuffs. My Mom joined the church whenever she landed somewhere new because they would provide some for nothing. Just like the US doing with the migrates who walk across a broken border by giving money, debit cards because they would become stuachy Democrats supporters forever. That is one of the main ways how the Western religions build their bases by giving away free stuffs to poor or helpless ppl. Money, material or emotional support, need resources to main this kind of programs. Judging what happened in the past, there was missionary who would arrive on foreign shores with the mission of spreading their version of truth, with the end-goals of truth to confuse people who is responsible for their welfare. Taking all the credits but none of the responsibilities and definitely forever critical against your own will surely create today's Western society.

For one reason or another, my comment to this video keeps getting removed. This coming from people who talk about freedom. Americans have this obsession with calling themselves a Christian country. Kelvin contradict himself by comparing China's rapid rise in the last 40 years to what's happening in the US presently which to him is' unchristainly'. The fact is, China achieved everything while they weren't a 'Christian 'country. China's nationally accepted philosophy is Confuscianism. You definitely don't only grow and become an industrial power by being a 'Christian ' nation only. Countries like Japan, Singapore & South Korea developed but weren't 'Christian ' nations. If China can do all the things they are doing now in 40 years without being a christain nation then I think the US can do too. All these cultural wars in the US isn't taking the country anywhere. Whether you are a Christian nation or not, if the people are not united under one purpose there wouldn't be progress. A house divided against itself can't stand. Even though China isn't a christain country, there is no division. The Communist Party sets the vision every five years and everybody complies to achieve the goals set but in the so called Christian country the US, when a republican president gets elected they make it their duty to undermine what the previous democrats president achieved. So whether you call yourself Christian or Catholic doesn't matter, if your nation is divided, there can't be progress. The ones who are not christain but united are getting thing done. The US as a nation needs to wake up and christain in the US need to get their acts together and stop all this christain nation talk.

If you define the word "communism" as a philosophy or idea to help or take care of the people, especially the poor, then that is exactly what Jesus told his disciples to do---always help the poor (the rich can take care of themselves). So in this sense, maybe we can say Jesus was a communist (at least in similarity of intention and deeds).

Kevin, If I may be so bold as to suggest that you are drawing false equivalants when you compare China's economic re-emergence with the growing number of people professing Christianity in the country. Please, this is a non equivalence. Are you seriously saying that pray to Jesus and you'll get rich? That sounds a bit too much like the good old con-man TV evangeist line. If you're into this sort of thing I suggest you visit Međugorje for a bit of conveyor line salvation, otherwise let's just say that in the 18thC China was the richest nation on Earth and then the Christians ravaged the country selling opium, bringing China to its knees. The atheist Communists saved it and have kept it going ever since.

As a Korean American, I thought we were the Christian ones. I grew up during the 80's in the U.S. and Korean Americans were largely Christian, and still are. You could go to any random rural town in Pennsylvania, where they might be all of 10 Koreans in it, and they'll still have a church. But mostly we were in the largest metropolitant areas ie New York , NJ, LA , DC , Atlanta. Every Korean American back then have been to church at least once in their lives. I never thought of China as a Christian people , but it's surprising to hear so. I am no longer Christian and I think the same goes true for the younger generations. Koreans tend to hate on China, but I do not. I am glad to see the rise of China, and all of Asia, to counter balance Western dominance in so many aspects of industry and of our lives. America, has and continues to be a bully in the geopolitical sphere, and I do not buy into the media driven narrative that China is evil. China is doing what all nations would do to grow, and much less so than what America has done to gain it's wealth. The average white American has no idea of all of the atrocities that the US has committed abroad in the name of resource extraction and geopolitical influence. I do appreciate your channel, though I can tell by the sobering tone of your videos that you see China's growth as a negative(which it is, if you're from the West). But I see it as the chickens coming home to roost. If America has indeed been a Christian nation, as you say, it certainly has been in name only, as actions speak louder than words. And by that , I'm pointing to all the acts of genocide, colonization , CIA infiltration, overthrowing of legitimate foreign gov't in the name of corporate greed driven profits , etc etc...

My concern is that such "information" does not help the Christians in China. Videos on how well China is doing in trade etc is fine but this video is likely to cause the authorities in that country to come down even harder on those who are practicing their faith there. And many of them are good, solid citizens who wish to live under the regime but just be allowed to practice what they believe is true. Please remove this video from public circulation, I plead!

But I think the Chinese government most likely already knows this anyway.

You are 30 years behind. I have been to China as a missionary and meet government officials. They give freedom to religion as long as they don't become extremists and cults. The Chinese government looks after the people well. One house church became so big that the government ask them to build a building for meetings.

Only if we are talking about Orthodox Churches, then we can talk about Christianity. Catholicism and protestant organizations will only be the "fifth column" on chinese soil.

The typical American answer: fix a spiritual problem by forming political alliance where there is no moral compass and corruption is normalised and truths become lies and lies become truth. You can bring change in your nation without losing your conscience thru lies, threats and violence. God said the church should go into the world and raise disciples. The church in the US should be raising disciples who go into both democratic & republican parties not by becoming a cult by following a man. The church is rising in Africa or China without any political alliance. That's the way the church started in the book of Acts. When the church becomes partisan as it has become in the US, the church first become divided and then the nation becomes divided. That is what the US has become now. My advise : go back to the way the church was built in the book of Acts. There was no alliance with Caesar or the roman government. Infact more than half of the new testament was written by Apostle Paul when he was imprisoned by the government. The gospel is the power of God leading to change not conservatism or any other political ideology.
