In a remote village nestled in Syria s picturesque Oalamoun mountains, resides a small Aramaic community. It is one of the last and it is devoted to preserving Aramaic: the language that Jesus spoke.
Protecting this 3000-year-old language has united Malula s residents: Christians and Muslims are like brothers in this town, says local resident Ibrahim Kamar. Whilst Mel Gibson s The Passion of Christ has revived interest in the language, fears that Aramaic is dying out continue. Malula, where the orphans must recite in Aramaic, is one of the last bastions for a language Mother Superior Savaf describes as a gift from God.

    I have got many Aramean friends from Syria but none of them can still speak it fluently. The biggest exclusively Aramean town is al-Qosh in Iraq...I think this is the only place on earth where the current young generation still speaks it.

    @sheepcreeper I'm Portuguese as a matter of fact. From the islands ( Madeira) were CR7 was born. I have dark hair but I have very pale skin which tends to turn red and I'm unable to have a tan, mostly because I avoid direct sunlight. It's sunny and tropical most of the year. And yes the Moors invaded the south Iberian peninsula (Portugal and Spain) thus, part eggplant lol.

    There was a study by some reporter ages back that showed proof of Jesus’ not looking like a surfer dude. Probably made to look like that by the church to increase appeal. That reporter got jailed by the Vatican later i believe

    As a Assyrian Christian that lived in Syria yes we did get along, until the civil war started they started targeting Christians, every few days you’d hear some news of kidnapping Christians girls, murder of Christian families and more.

    @@triple75 no Christians don’t usually commit crimes against targeted groups whether in syria or any other country, and i never said all Muslims did bad things to us. Christian countries welcomed muslim refugees into their country so stop bullshiting and be grateful for that because saudia arabia “THE MOST SACRED COUNTRY FOR MUSLIMS” didnt bother taking any of them in.

    I’m sorry to disappoint you that’s not the Aramic Yeshua spoke, or even vocabulary, and you could take my word to the bank because I speak Hebrew, and most importantly, I read Hebrew and I can read Aramaic because it’s the same alphabet and the same vocabulary I won’t understand most of what I’m reading, but I can read Aramaic because Hebrew and Aramaic have the same vocal and the same alphabet

    @@alisheikh4698 I don't give free lessons. But I find it somehow crazy to believe a man on a donkey flying at night to a place that became holy after their arrival. It was night and dark no soul witnessed the flying donkey with the man. People was trying to get some information from the donkey if it was true that it was able to fly with this man on its back. Guess what. Donkeys can not speak. So they just believed the man. No more options here lol. Anyway. Jesus died on the cross. This man died because he got old. Jesus died to give salvation to every single piece of shit of us. The man on the donkey, as I already mentioned, died because he got old. Now. Forget the false prophets on the donkey and let's get to the point. Holy spirit, Jesus and God are one. Open a Bible or if you have the capability look around you and one day you will understand :)

    @@melisaalto Well not where I am from there and also not in Maaloula now it is save. Couple of years ago it was not save in Maaloula they looted much things the groups of people destroying our country, also a couple problems in our village. But the goverment has a better grip since then so it is much saver now and the people live their daily lives.

    There are TONS of people from northern Iraq that also speak Aramaic… many are of the Syriac or Eastern Orthodox Church. My brother’s wife is from Baghdad. Her father is working to teach and preserve Syriac and Biblical Aramaic. Sameer Hache, if you’re from Baghdad, Iraq and are Eastern Orthodox and see this comment you probably know of him. There’s plenty of folks from Baghdad and further north that speak Aramaic, especially in Erbil and the Kurdistan portion of Iraq.

    They speak Syriac, Assyrian, or Chaldean. Those are related to Aramaic but they aren't the same. Syriac is northern aramaic while Assyrian and Chaldean are at their foundation eastern semitic Assyrian (not the same as modern day Assyrian) with large influence from North-west semitic Syriac.

    If Assad and the Baathists had been ousted from power by the Islamist rebels, this village and many alike with sizable Christian populations, imagery and holy sites, would largely be abandoned, desecrated, and ransacked. Any non-Sunni residents that remained would most likely be kidnapped for ransom or heavily discriminated against. This goes for all non-Sunni villages in Syria. Not just Maaloula.

    I wish that was true. Well Maria is a Hebrew name. Actually his name is Yashua in English Joshua in Italian Jesus you see his mother tongue was Hebrew. His native language was Hebrew. He knew Aramaic and Greek, but the Romans festival didn’t let the Jews preach religion to other people that was a punishment of death, and he was literally teaching his Jewish Hebrew students he was preaching in the Hebrew language. Romans were pretty clear about it. Almost entire life was surrounded by Hebrew people.🙏

    Learn Arabic, the similarity is like 90% ,Arabic is easier to learn because you will find the materials & teachers everywhere, after that I guess in one month you can speak Aramaic

    I’m a native Arabic speaker, and can confirm that Aramaic sounds a looooot like Arabic. I have to listen very carefully to understand some sentences, but overall the pronunciation is very similar.

    Yes. This great attitude needs apply, especially now, for the Israeli Palestinian conflict needs to ultimately find Grace & resolve with Peace, Humanity, stopping the decades of cruelty afflicted daily against the oppressed population. An occupied people, generations of them, need equal rights, hope, love and inclusion too. This constant degrees of war is about Nationalism, not religio,n but it is the power & money mask used to excuse bad behavior.     The conflict is because of different beliefs. Most muslims don't believe that Yeshua is the Messiah. My wife's parents are muslim ( she is not herself) and her dad and I had a discussion about this. They think Yeshua is a prophet and that is it. Christians believe Yeshua is the Savior- the Messiah prophesied about in the Old and New Testaments. That is why conflict occurs.

Assyrian is the closest to Aramaic because it's our ancient language, thousands of years before Arabs moved into what is today modern day northern Iraq and Turkey. It takes 3-4 hours to travel and my first time i confronted snows in mountain road going to Aleppo where my Filipino co workers enjoyed throwing each other with snow, our project Banias Syria were two500 MW .power plants, from constructions, commissioning phases til operations, theyre good people like us Filipinos, by the way, from where are you?

    I’m sorry to disappoint you that’s not the Aramic Yeshua spoke, or even vocabulary, and you could take my word to the bank because I speak Hebrew, and most importantly, I read Hebrew and I can read Aramaic because it’s the same alphabet and the same vocabulary I won’t understand most of what I’m reading, but I can read Aramaic because Hebrew and Aramaic have the same vocal and the same alphabet

    I am so happy that she is teaching the children Aramaic because Dad is the language that I desire in my heart for the longest time as I can remember that I learned that God spoke that language.     You know? Arabs gained control earlier in Syria after defeating East Roman empire. The first historical record of that was in Aramaic. It was wide spoken and it took five hundred years to be replaced by Arabic even Islam spreaded out quickly there.

    I'm from Kerala, India. In our language ,Malayalam there are so many words that have origin in Aramaic used by Christians in Kerala. We are also called Syrian Christians because we use Syriac language in our church services and was actually converted by Syrian missionaries and traders who had come and settled here, married and converted the locals here.

I cut hair and meet lots of high school and middle school students and most have a lack of manners. Sadly most have multiple sex partners. A big percent love to vape weed. I’m talking about 12-16 year olds! They cuss, they can’t put their phones down. I’ve seem this a few times where Some “jokingly” show porn Pictures to each other. I thank Jehovah’s Witness for showing me those scriptures. When the wicked are done away with, you will see it. Even Jesus agreed with these scriptures And that’s why he himself said at Matthew 5:5 Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth. What will this earth look like without all the wicked? Easy read Revelation 21:4,5 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” 5 And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” The Bible mentions some go to Heaven because they have a heavenly hope like Jesus’ Disciples and will help him rule as Kings and Priests Which help them rule over the humans that get to inherit the earth and live here forever. And some will be resurrected to live on earth to live forever without anymore shootings and violence because remember psalms 37:9-11 says they will be no more wicked people. Why? Because Satan will be no more, Amen!

    It's very beautiful to me lol just to know this is Jesus AS tongue.. I'm happy they preserved his tongue peace be upon him now if they can only find the Aramaic Injil and we can connect to our Prophet AS in a real way.. (by the way I hear that the Vatican is hiding some of these gospels like the Gospel of Barnaby's that agrees with Islam)
