Searching The Cheviot

For the last few months, I have been searching for the crash site of a Supermarine Spitfire which came down on the north side of The Cheviot on the 25th of March 1943 in Northumberland. Sadly Flight Sergeant Eric Lindsay Brown aged 24 lost his life in the accident. This is one of many wartime crash sites in these hills. A poignant moment to stand at the site.

Happy New Year Mick. Nice to see you back in your "home from home" big man and well done in finding that wee monument only 24 years old sad when you think about it giving up so much for other people. Good to see you again mate, peter 👍

Cheers Peter hope you're keeping well bud. This was the 4th time looking for this site and hard work on your own so roped Nathan in, we have been looking for another site way off the beaten track near Woolhope Crags but no luck, the heathers even deeper there lol. Aye only 24, really sad. There are a few small pieces of the plane at the base of the post, we had a quiet moment then left. Happy new year and all the best for 2023 bud. Mick.

Cheers Geordie I've been up 3 times just before Christmas by myself but hard work for one in the heather so roped in Nathan and 2 working together made it easier to find. Take care and all the best for the new year bud.

Cheers I don't put much effort into videoing these days plus we were getting battered in the freezing wind haha. There are 6 sites on The Cheviot the Vickers Warwick near the main path being the easiest to find, also the Flying Fortress near Braydon Crag which I have visited but this one was much harder to find, not much wreckage just a few bits at the bottom of the memorial post. I have also been looking for a site near Woolhope Crag but also very difficult to find and no luck yet. The last 2, one is near the summit but also hard to find as there is no memorial and hardly any wreckage and one is on West Hill which I have not looked for yet. Take care. Mick.

That's the first result of the year Mick. A decent find to although you have known of it for some time. Only 24? They were all very young. I see a bit of snow left up top there. Nice to see. Well, have a great new year mate. All the best. Mark
