Viking Samurai joins us to argue over the merits, or lack thereof, of Under Siege 2. Is this one of the last good Sifu movies or is this the beginning of Chunk Seagal?

I thought it would be fun to have a Seagal fan on during an episode so I could shit on Sifu in front of him. But I had no idea that David would get Seagalian levels of hate from it, haha.

The list of actors, actresses, directors and stunt professionals that have openly declared that they don't wish to work with Seagal ever again, is longer than the end credits of this film. Andrew Davis almost chose to not direct Under Siege, because he had bad experience working with Seagal on Above The Law. In the end he did and it paved the way for him to do The Fugitive with Harrison Ford and star of Under Siege Tommy Lee Jones.

Davis actually praised Seagal during his time with him on Above The Law... he said that it wasn't until years AFTER Above the Law, that he felt Seagal's ego had blown up and had become more of a jerk. Important to note also the actors that actually praised Seagal too. Tommy Lee Jones said Seagal was a "total professional" and "an excellent athlete", and "highly skilled". Those are Jones' words directly.

Maybe there was nothing beyond allusions and it would of been fine. Specifically mentioning the '[Seagal's book on the deep state] is really kind of true', perhaps I wasn't understanding what they were trying to say, and it wasn't as off topic as it felt. I imagine your guest is a decent guy if you're inviting him into your house, but as it happens it really ended up aligning with uncomfortable conversations with people I love and making me think of that. I do *not* want to crap on the fellow, and am perfectly happy to discover I'm wrong, and even if my opinion was spot on, that is not a statement as to the character of the gentleman. Katherine Heigl quote about Seagal: On the last day of shooting, and again, I had just turned 16 on this movie, and he said: ‘you know Katie, I got girlfriends your age,’. And I said: ‘Isn’t that illegal?’ And he said: ‘They don’t seem to mind.’ And I said: ‘Mom!’… I’m not making that up. Under Siege 2 had the budget cost of 104 million.

This has not occurred. Also Gary Busey for some reason was hired to be the villain despite being in and dying in the first Under Siege. He was also given a pay or play deal, meaning he got paid whether he filmed or not. He of course was never in Under Siege 2, but was still paid $750,000. Fun fact about this movie. This was the first movie where he was overweight. He was wearing a corset the entire movie to look slimmer, its why they played with the light, to hide his weight. Seagals logic was that he would lose the weight, before making his next movie. And we have all seen how that worked out.

Haha. Not at all. I was his biggest fan growing up as a kid , Jason but I have never seen someone who was so on top of his game end up becoming so weird and odd whilst letting himself go like he has done. He lost 99.9% of his students and at his Aikido seminar in Paris in 1999, we had to watch him literally make his student put on his pink slippers for him while he sat on his throne. His ego was so out of wack. It was pathetic. That is when we all knew it was the start of the downfall of him. Avery complicated man with a talent for tall tales. I was one of the very few who had a copy of a documentary that was made about him in 2001 which was shown on E-Online a TV channel back in early 2000's and they pretty much predicted the way he would eventually end up. Strange man. So glad I eventually left his Aikido.

This movie was actually pretty groundbreaking when it came to green screen VFX. Something like 50 minutes of the movie involved green screen, which was unheard of at the time. When Cinefex magazine did their 20th anniversary retrospective, they asked a bunch of experts to name their favorite movie FX (at the time, I think it was 1980-2000), and someone specifically mentioned this movie. For better or worse, you can trace green screen movie making directly to this movie.
