Seaboard System's Howell Yard in Evansville, IN. 1985

Seaboard System's Howell Yard in the fall of 1985. Some vintage motive power along with vintage freight cars. at the 9:24 mark is a SCL boxcar and at 10:23 is a Seaboard boxcar. These are a couple that caught my eye.
Thanks to D. Paulson!

Excellent video ! Good classic footage of the great days of railroading. Thanks 🙂👍🚂🚃🚃🚃
Railroading as I remember it, being 39 years old. Thanks for uploading Brian. This sure brings back memories.
I need the sign on the yard office for my train room, great video!
I had just started college at Vincennes, 50 miles north and on the Seaboard's (ex-C&EI) line to Chicago. Somewhere I have a pic of a Seaboard System and SCL loco pairing switching in Vincennes.
I visited Howell yard a few years ago. Very easy to photograph from several vantage points
Love the bid my grandpa was one of the night dispatchers there 1960- to when he was transfered down to Jacksonville because of CSX :)
Damn, I wonder why I watch things like this. I worked for the SCX from 79 to 81 (Chicago Subdivision and Northern Region Rail-Laying Gang) and then got my stupid ass fired. I never found another job that suited me like the Railroad and Railroads just weren't hiring for many years. Now that they're taking applications once more, I'm not able to work. I'd have 45 years seniority now. I can't resist looking at something like this, but now I'll be depressed for the next several days. …..RVM45

May I ask what led you to getting fired?

@@dominator9833 It is a long story. I partied the night before. The Foreman said that I was too unsteady to work. After arguing briefly, I started to go back to the camp cars and go back to bed. Unfortunately, someone hollered at me and wanted to know why iwasn't allowed to work. I sat down with the workers awaiting transportation. I meant to simply converse with them until THEY left for work and THEN go back to bed. The Foreman-I don't know it he was legitimately mistaken or simply taking advantage-called the Police, told them that I insisted on going to work and had me arrested. There was a bunch od incompetent bolloxing around afterward-on the part of the Company, My Union and myself afterward. My representative used a technicality to get me reinstated with back pay-only to be fired once more over a related incident. I've always thought that if my rep hadn't gotten clever, I might have gotten off with a 180-Day lay-off-maybe only 90-days. Also, I was from the "Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way" working on "Dixie Federation" territory. I had the option of being represented by the Diaxie Federation, but opted to go with the Brotherhood, since it was the stronger Union. In retrospect, the Divie Federation Representative could probably have plea-bargained more effectively. since he knew these people and was used to dealing with them.
i remember always seeing that seaboard switcher sitting in the yard when visiting relatives in Henderson in the mid 80s as we passed by there
Love this video from 1985. All fallen flags now. Wondering how the guys in the vid are doing ? Retired ?
Great vid! Every car is a fallen flag. How about the seaboard air line boxcar at 10:25😀
I think SD40-2 3580 at 10:51 is CSX SD40-3 4011 still in service. This picture I think was a SD40-2 and was rebuilt to a SD40-3
@RailWolf7306 Thanks. Glad you liked the vids.
Back when real trains were real.
Great catch @ 8:14 Valdosta Southern Railroad!
great video
Well done!
I think CSX has 2 yards in Evansville. Which one is Howell? East side of town or west side of town?
