This is amazing, never saw a BQ23-7 in front and there's only a few videos here with them trailing, they were not ugly just different, like the E60's,I love the way it looks with its family lines scheme,to bad none of them survive the wrath of csx..a rare piece of history indeed, thank you for sharing

I would have absolutely loved to see a BQ23-7 in action! Too bad none made it to preservation! I may be alone on this, but I kinda wish that there were GEVOs with fronts that looked exactly like theirs!

Dang, that beast gurgles like an Alco Century! Love it. I was lucky to see one of those regularly on ex-L&N LH&StL Subdivision between Osborn Yard, Louisville, KY and Howell Yard, Evansville, IN. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for posting! Right around 2000 or 2001 CSX had all 6 of them fo sale except for the traction motors! I asked for the price but got no answer! Should of insisted!

Great classic footage. I had and HO Scale model of one of those BQ23-7's when I was a kid.

IMO even if the BQ23-7s were in theory the "ugly duckling" as it were when it came to locomotives I still feel they were still a refreshing change from the GP38/GP40 designs which were pretty overused at that point, helped add some visual diversity back on freights

When they were brand new, they made it to the Southernmost rail point on SBD/CSX. My first thought on them was they looked like they had been in a wreck. And lost. Local crew wasn't too thrilled with them and they left rather quickly.

I still have a pair of these BQ23-7's in ho scale from the 1980's in the family line paint scheme.Been in the closet for decades with my other ho scale trains. Not sure by what company though.

A rare model to see. I saw the last one in the dead line in Waycross, GA a few years (more than a decade) ago before it was scrapped.

The GE BQ23 is definitely showing its Alco roots but I wish that one of them was saved from the scrappers torch. It is certainly not Tier 2 certified but the GE chug sounds good.

Use to watch these run the SCL branch in the early 1980s to Myrtle Beach SC. They usually came into town with a newly refurbished GP16.

Saw one of these in west siding at Palatka, FL AMTRAK around XMAS 1981. Siding was pulled up years ago. Only (10) BQ23-7's were built. So ugly I thought it was something possibly built for military! Jockeying bombs to weapons depots or something! LOL!

In many comments it´s said that they´re ugly. Some even said ugliest. I´m sorry to disagree, but P42, is as sexy as a hammer on rails. On passenger train P42 are not ugly, but disgusting. Even a mom would hide that.monstruosity, saying no no it´s not my child, don´t know him... Not even good for snow plow jobs. Thanks for that rare video with good chugging.

She may be ugly to you, but to me, she more than made up for her looks, by getting the job done! I dont care how ugly she was, it was a rare locomotive, and would have been general electrics first wide cab locomotive. I have one of these in ho scale. And i would like to get at least 9 more for my collection. Anybody who gas some of these, please let me know, i am collecting them for my ho scale locomotive collection. Mine was built by bachman model trains manufacturing
