Sand Advection
In this tutorial, we'll recreate Mario's Sand Advection scene from IBC 2018.
Techniques we'll work through include:
* Setting up an ExplosiaFX simulation for advection.
* Filling a volume with sand particles.
* Setting up FluidFX for a granular solve.
* Using particle groups and fields to control advection.
* Lighting the scene in Cycles 4D using emission objects.
* Using the particle Instance tag to create sand geometry.

Thank you Bob - your toolset is amazing and intuitive to work with. I recall back in 'Ye Olden Tymes' when I had to script anything like that with many, many lines of code. Cheers!
Bob, as usual your tutorials are excellent. Of all the tutorials I've done on X-Particles / Cycle 4D, you can see the subtle connections between the different components of X-Particles and Cycle 4D. Thank you
Oh my! Always great to see these!
Great one, Bob and Mario!
Excellent logical teaching style! Thank you
Thank you Bob for this again great Tutorial.... and don't be too lazy next time :-)
Beauty of bob sir in x particles 💓
I love xp and your tutorials
Bob you gotta use the new camera lock for Cycles 4D! I love it
Hello Bob, thanks for another great tutorial what has a huge meaning to all of us in our learning curve. Can you do one quick tutorial on how to slow down and speed up the scenes? Mario was talking about it a bit in one of his presentations. Thank you.
I learned alot from this video. Is there a more comprehensive series of videos explaining the fundamentals of all the systems and their relationships within x particles?
I wonder when do we have an x particles course by Insydium? Free tutorials seem awesome and helpful.
i always wonder how people just get this resaults, so much steps just by testing things ? its just crazy, i mean i understand really a lot, but x particles is really complex and u have to give attention to so many things, daaamnnnnn, will be realy hard way
Thanks manl! But why is the "old"-green group moving upwards even though its not changed into the new group??? shouldn't they stay unchanged until affected by the groupchange modifier? having that same issue here? Is that due to the fluidFX? How would you turn on/off FluidFX with fields? Thanks!
i have seen on insta some one made bridge destruction in Cinema 4d and X-Particles can you made a tut of this please
is there any way to do the similar result with Cycles Instances shown here but do it somehow in Redshift?
Hi guys, I am following the tut, but can I use something different than Fields, since I am on R19 ?
When I add the FluidFX, the particles explode apart. Yes, it's excluded from the EFX emitter. Learning stopped in its tracks :(

@@williamlosik6316 make sure hexagonal is set to emit on one frame?
Thank you for these great tutorials. Really enjoying and learning slowly. I have a problem with Playback speed. It's much slower than yours. Is it possible to give your computer specs please ?? I have i9-7900X with 32gb and 2x1080ti but still very slow playback than yours :(

May be something to do with ExplosiaFX settings ? ?
Thats a great one!! One question, I use a tube and make it editable but it fill everything even the hole. I'm I doing something wrong?
@bobwalmsley1
5 жыл бұрын
Hi - you'll need to Optimise the mesh so the caps points are welded correctly with the rest of the tube.

Awesome tutorial as always :) I have a problem tho. When I import an Illustrator vector file and apply an extrusion the hexagonal emission emits particles in the whole space my object occupies.
@bobwalmsley1
5 жыл бұрын
Hi - This will because the caps of your extrude aren't welded to the points. To solve this either make it editable and then Optimise the mesh, or, put your extrude object in a Connect object and emit from that

Bob with this tutorial , mr. Hupke is becoming obsolete. -:). thanks !
Hi, why in ExplosiaFX when i choose smoke in display i see only particles? (sorry for my english)

I do have the same problem. And i cannot achieve the same effect of "mushroom smoke" shape at all with exactly same settings shown over here...

Same here! I'm trying out X-P trial tho
my explosia fx explosion is really light and I can hardly see it no matter how much I tweak settings, it certainly doesn't rise up in an explosion like yours, what am I doing wrong?

Hi, Please send a message to Technical Support regarding this. Be sure to quote this tutorial and share the scene file for them to take a look at it. insydium.ltd/helpcentre/ -Thanks
How can I apply materials to particle objects with redshift? Or how can i get the spheres without the Cycles plugin? Thanks!

I'm using an i9 9900k and my scene doesn't process as fast as yours. Must be a crazy good system setup you have there!

Why doesn't XP respect the actual falloff of the field? It just goes 100% as soon as it reaches the inner offset. The POC feels like a hack and wouldn't look great with a color change.
@bobwalmsley1
5 жыл бұрын
Mark Thornhill hi. A falloff cannot work with this modifier as it works in a binary way - a particle can either be in a group or not - there’s no possible middle ground. If you want to do a colour change you would use a colour modifier with a falloff, or data mapping.
