INSYDIUM Training - Dynamic Water - xpOcean & xpFluidFX

Фильм және анимация

** Please note: This tutorial was created using the X-Particles Beta Access (April 2020). Therefore, some elements may differ from the final release. - Thanks
In this tutorial we'll combine several X-Particles dynamic objects to create a reactive animated water body.
- Set up the base water animation using xpOcean
- Create a dynamic xpFluidFX water body with collider geometry
- Add foam and spray detailing using xpFoam.
- Deform the xpFluidFX and xpFoam particles using the xpOcean object.
- Set up a hero ocean and an infinite background ocean.
- Composite in After Effects.
This video was recorded on a computer with the following specs: Processor: i7-7820X CPU @ 3.60GHz, 8 Core Graphics Card: 2 x Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti RAM: 64.0 GB

Lovely tutorial. I am using latest XP as of Feb 2024 w/ C4D 2023. xpOpenVDBMesher won't cache w/ the xpOcean as it's child. (As a modifier) Unfortunately I am having to leave the xpOcean modifier 'live' (turned on). Makes for very slow playback.

Brilliant tutorial! What I was wondering: does this trick with the seamless extending ocean and masking also works when you use absorption and scattering? With cycles4d for example? The simulated water should look different then, since it has real depth in comparison to the extended plane. Or am I wrong with this?

The in-depth guide through each object make each tutorial so valuable. Thank you so much for this! When deforming an OVDMesher is it possible to apply the Vertex Foam Map from the xpOcean? I've selected the 'Foam Map' option in xpOcean but noticed I wasn't able to preview the Vertex Map on the OVDMesher. Do you have recommendations on how to include foam into the ocean simulation, on top of the xpFoam?

  • @kwongster

Using Redshift, I was able to drag the Vertex Map it created into the shader, but it kept disappearing as I dragged it into my node. I had to drag it quickly to register it. When clicking the Vertex Map on the OVDMesher object, the settings disappear from the Basic Properties

One way could be to render out the xpOcean foam as a separate pass and comp it onto the mesher in post. However, AFAIK the Beta also has improved features for manipulating vertex maps, so there may be a way that does not rely on comping in post.

  • @C4DRS4U

    @C4DRS4U

    4 жыл бұрын

If you want the foam to stay longer or disappear faster, you can adjust the life span of the particles in the foam emitter. As far as color is concerned, the usual way is to give the particles a material depending on the render engine you want to use. The OpenGL render done in the tutorial was just for demonstration purposes and had no material for the foam particles; it is not a method I would use for a final render.

I bought this plugin and I can hardly do anything. This simple tutorial does not correspond to what the plugin does. The xpFluidFX does not match what happens in the tutorial with what happens to me. Perhaps it is because of the plugin version, the xpFluidFLIP appears to me and not in the tutorial. I don't know what happens but I am very disappointed.

You can disable the icon in the ’Scene object’, like shown in the video.. then (while the ”XP Scene object” is still selected) you go to the ’Object Manager menu’ / ’Edit / and select ’Set as Default’. Now this icon will be disabled every time you add a new Scene object (same with ANY settings you may have changed in the Scene object before ’Set as Default). This goes for almost every object in Cinema 4D. You can change any setting in objects, change sizes to primitive objects etc.. then ’Set as Default’ and it will be your new default setting.

Yep. I've been using a boole to cut out the bottom and edges. This works great if you are using solid textures like this tute but there is still some post work to do if your water surface is transparent.
