It's really down to her skill and the way you position them, your using their weight to prevent them moving. She's highly skilled and extremely fast so they don't have time to get so restless but they can still struggle I can assure you, especially when on their side. She and other professionals like her just make it look easy. A sore back is the worst but she's no doubt got a strong core and has good upper body strength.

In addition to the skill to do it right, sheep have also been bred to be easier to shear, in terms of temperament. Theyve been bred to dumb as all get out, so that they are easier to manage. Still adorable critters.

Yes and we can't undo thousands of years of breeding without destroying all domesticated animals. So a bit of an agricultural compact exists whereby the farmer provides care to the animals and the animals provide a useful product that sustains that care. That's what farming is.

If the fibers are totally unusable the wool can still be used for gardening. I believe every fleece has some small parts that have to be cut off because they are too dirty or contaminated with feces. I buy that kind of wool from a sheep farmer and use it to as a mulch in my garden. It is an excellent fertilizer and also the slugs really do not like it. So it additionally provides a great pest protection for the strawberries. In my country (Germany) You can even buy pelleted sheep wool in the garden center. I do however prefer the unprocessed wool because it lasts longer.
