Sam Long - Threshold + Speed Workout

Спорт

With 2 months until the World 70.3 Ironman Championships and 3 weeks until the PTO US Open in Dallas, Sam Long is back training at altitude in his home town of Boulder, Colorado. We joined him for a "back to basics" workout involving 12km worth of intervals at threshold followed by some speed work.
The workout: 6 x 2km, 4 x 400m, 200m (200m jog recovery).

Great intro to this guy and the IM world. I like how he's so analytical & chatty about racing, training, and race strategy. Soooo much more interesting when the athlete you're filming is open & has a big personality.

I can understand his approach to the fast 400 und even faster 200 after the actual race pace training even though it makes physiology no sense and the chance that a similar event (like Sam describes with the right bend and the positioning for a sprint finish) accures again is very unlikely. ☝️😁 He could train as well with only one shoe to be prepared in case somebody steps on his heel in the last k so that he looses his shoe. 😉

I don’t think he can race a 65 minute half marathon. Tooo heavy and tooo much excuses on trying to figure out strides/cadence… just neeed to be more aggressive and make it happen

He has done sub-15 5k in the middle of a massive training block. 65 minute half isn't much of a stretch if he was tapered.

Sam had a self-induced public intervention and emotional collapse at his last international race (PTP Collins Cup) during a massive press conference.... about trash talking, which he himself instigates, in front of the media and a room full of MANY pros who could care less and didn't want to be dragged into his personal problems during their media obligations. Super cringe stuff. It was really selfish to waste their time. Sam talks trash then when others talk trash back at him, he loses it because he can't hang (psychologically). Then he cries and pulls everyone into his mess. But we love it when Sam is positive and all about triathlon. Waiting for him to figure himself out acting a fool. He needs to artificially inflate his career by taunting others, because he is up and coming. He still does this now. Well, it all caught up to him at PTO Collins Cup. Yo yo yo, MTV raps wants their branding back!

@@israel_started_it_ALL_in_1947 Emotional Collapse? Crying? He simply left the conference room and proceeded to do very well in the race and was humble to his competitors, very contrast to how you're behaving. "Massive press conference"? It was just like 5 people in a closet room talking lol. Stop clinging and go touch grass.
