I’ve got so used to using grips for this job, I’ve never bought a set of fuel hose release pliers. However, this type of connector is used on so much more than just fuel filters on modern cars that I think I shall invest soon (I really ought to practice what I preach, lol). If you’re just starting out, I’d defo recommend investing in a pair of these.

Brilliant video, doing mine today.
Very clear and well constructed guide! I noticed my Saab was struggling a bit at lower rpms, city traffic especially. Had some starting issues too. Even though I don't have much experience working on cars, I like fixing things myself and something like this really shows that it's accessible for anyone if you put your mind to it and have a good tutorial! The old fuel filter seemed very hard to blow air through once removed and was pretty clogged. Car starts and runs much smoother now (especially low rpm) Thanks for the guides, this channel is great for 9-3 owners!
Thanks , This video is very very helpful, And has made life much easier for me for the longrun in confidence to changing my fuel filter on my SAAB, 10 out of 10 for the video.

Awesome. I take it you're a new DIYer (at least for the fuel filter). In all seriousness, buy yourself a proper filter unclipping tool rather than using my bodge method. I bought one recently and wish I'd done so years ago. They are dead cheap and if you look after them they'll last a lifetime. There's an Amazon UK link in the description, but I got a pair of these and they do the job nicely s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AngCXh

Great video as always! Easy to follow and always on the spot! Thanks a lot. About changing the fuel filter: I think the most difficult part is to detach the lines from the filter. If no proper pliers can be used it might be difficult as the clamps can be damaged. I found an easy way to create a tool: just use a 4mm or so steel wire and bend it. Worked well! It is also quite important to release the fuel pressure before removing the lines. I did this before I woke the car up after winter...

Many thanks to Son Mai (see below) for putting us onto this. I've researched this and come to a conclusion. It turns out that while UK & Euro cars had an external fuel filter from 2004MY on, NAS cars continued with the in-tank filter. This further clears up confusion I see on various forums when people ask about the fuel filter and get conflicting advice about it's location. I've got two screen shots of WIS for NAS and Euro cars showing the difference. Unfortunately I cannot attach them here, so if you go to 'community posts' I'll put them there for all to see. Bearing in mind my stripdown of a 100,000 mile fuel filter, I would suggest (at this time) that anyone with a NAS 9-3 considers changing the in-tank filter before the car reaches 100,000 miles. Alternatively drop the tank, remove the filter and fit an in-line filter near the tank that can be changed easily (use the same filter in this video). Apparently there is a YT video of dropping the tank and changing the in-tank filter, but I cannot find it atm. I'll post a link when I do.

Hello, I’m about to drop the fuel tank on my B207 to replace the fuel pump but I’m curious to know where the fuel pump non-return valves are located? I have a bad fuel system pressure issue, that drops fuel pressure immediately, and I have also changed the FPR for a new OEM (although that means nothing). Any info would be great.
Great video, i can not find my fuel filter though 🙈 2008 1.8t 5 speed manual model. I watched your gearbox oil change video last night. Again my lication was different, 8 I had to remove the nut with the electrical loom attached. Help would be greatly appreciated in finding fuel filter location 🙏
Hi. My garage just replaced the fuel filter on my 2004 Saab 9-3 convertible but due to corrosion there is leakage and they say they are having difficulty locating 2 replacement seals which apparently were sold as new parts attached to the pipes. Oils these seals be the clips you refer to?
Is the fuel filter in the same location on a 2006 93 convertible?
Cheers Cyd. I did this the other week. The clip facing the back of the car is awkward to, you can't get to the top and it doesn't turn. Luckily I had one of them Scissor type fuel clip release tools. The new clips that came with the filter have clips that you can get at easily with pliers.

Yeah, that rear connector is a right sod! That's why I did the front one first, removed the filter from it's bracket and then undid the rear.
Hello I have an important question does a Saab 93 2008 2.0T have a fuel filter that needs to be changed?
Don't need to put fresh fuel in to the new filter before fit in?
Is this situated in a different spot on the American version I have saab 9-3 arc 2004? Thanks ...obviously haven't looked yet ..lol!
I was fumbling around on the floor for about 20 minutes earlier. How do you release the clip which is holding the filter to the car? I couldn't figure it out!?
it's work on 9-3 2.2 TiD 2004 ? or is the fuel filter somewhere else? D223L motor code
Thanks! Silly question does the fuel lines leak the fuel ? Did you wire tie the fuel lines to prevent them leaking. I'm curious because I am planning to do this.
@CycloneCyd
3 жыл бұрын
When you disconnect the fuel lines, there will always be some excess fuel spills out either the lines or the filter. Use a tray or put lots of cloth/newspaper down
Hello! Nice video. Just one question. When you unplugg the Fuel filter are all the fuel coming out from the tank and empty the tank? Or is there Some sort of blocking thing thats stop all the fuel from coming out?
@CycloneCyd
3 жыл бұрын
No that shouldn't be a problem. The filter connections are higher than the bottom of the tank so the syphoning effect will pull fuel in the line back into the tank rather than trying to drain it. If you think about it and it did what you suggest, then that would have been pretty poor Engineering from the Senior Engineer responsible for the fuel system❗ On forward projects I've been on in my career, there has always been a Service Team that look at just these sort of issues during prototype build phases. Good on you for asking the question though. 👍
