I have been using Motul 5w40 motor oil for my 2010 Saab 9-3 Sportcombi Wagon 6speed Manual transmission vehicle. The oil works really well for me so far 👍.

A couple extra tricks I use myself.. I run the engine warm and then let it sit for let's say 30 minutes with the oil cap open. Helps the oil run out when its warm. And having the oil cap open while draining helps avoid a vacuum in the valve cover that's keeping all oil from running out. Often when doing an oil change you can notice if the cap wasn't open that when you open it, the oil starts running a bit again.

Great video! It is easy to do on these cars. Love the oil filter location versus having oil run down your arm. A bit of advice to SAAB owners: Ignore the Oil Change Indicator program on these cars. It can run that oil 8k to 15k miles, which is horrible on older cars that don't run as clean as a new one. Plus the turbo can really wreck the oil if not shut down properly after hard driving. Best to figure on 3k-5k miles between changes depending on how dirty it looks. Oil is cheaper than rings and bearings. :-) Here is the simple math: If you DIY with $40 oil changes over a 100k mile period, it will cost you: $520 for 8k mile intervals. $800 for 5k mile intervals. $1333 for 3k mile intervals. $800 invested in increased oil changes to likely triple the life of the internals. $2000 - Cost of engine replacement with a junkyard motor installed by a local mechanic. The math is simple. The cars are awesome, but getting more rare.

The saab does not have any greasable suspension components like old cars used to. If you want to lubricate something just hit your door hinges with some white lithium grease for smooth and squeak free operation. Flushing the brake fluid is a good and cheap thing to do too, your brakes hydraulic system will appreciate it.

K&N oil filter with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 dexos Gen2 with SN-Plus rating. I have a lot of training related to fuels and oils and the SN rating is important as it comes from the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the SN-Plus designation refers to it being meant for turbocharged engines. I would use 0W-40 however it doesn’t come with the SN-Plus rating so I go with the next best thing which is 5W-30
