    After watching this video I don’t think I am as terrified of dropping a gas tank on one of these cars as I was before this video. Gracias. But it hasn’t done anything to curb my rage at SAAB’s engineers for not put an access to the fuel pump under the backseat like on the 9-5s.

    I just did the job on mine. Whew. Thank you very much for your video. The one piece of advice that I would offer is that it is best to use a 1/4" drive for the rear bolts. This will allow just enough clearance to line up with the 13mm bolts on the straps. And most of the clips will release if you press them in the middle and pull. I only had to get medieval with one.

    I need this done on my Saab too and it looks so intimidating to attempt myself. Ugh. 🙁 About a month ago I took my car to a shop who quoted approx $1,300 to do this exact thing. I don’t mind paying for someone’s knowledge and labor, especially for a Saab since many mechanics don’t wanna work on them. Where I run into problems is the shop wanting to charge me almost $600 for the replacement pump when I KNOW you can get one much, much cheaper!! That’s why I told them I’d be in touch if I decided to have it done. Maybe because I’m a female they think I know absolutely nothing... whatever. Anyway, THANK YOU so, so much for sharing this video! You just got another new subscriber! Happy Thanksgiving!

    Is that replacement cheaper pump the same brand and quality they want to use? You can almost always find a cheaper aftermarket part, but you might have to pay to get the job done all over again sooner than later with a cheaper one. MAYBE. Tough for a shop want to back that up with a warranty they can stand behind, rather than choosing the more expensive one. PS- there's a NHTSA Recall #11E009000 about certain aftermarket pumps failing, even while driving, causing a stalling and safety concern. I'd wonder if those cheapies fall under the part# range given in the Safety Recall? 🤔

    Pls help! I'm in the UK and own 2 93's. My 93 1.9tid vector sport which is automatic has been off the Rd for 2 yrs. I've never worked on cars myself but managed to carry out the work req to get it thru its mot test. Car was running perfect for 3 hrs then started to cut out at junctions etc. When it's idling and I go to put it into drive, reverse or back into park it cuts out. The eml then appeared and the local garage said it was the code for the egr valve. I took it off and cleaned it along with the throttle body and map sensor. Drove OK for a day and the e m light went off. Started cutting out nearly every time I came to a stop and the engine management light came back on. Bought the icarsoft for saab and got code 0087 fuel rail/ system pressure - too low bank 1 and 0400 EGR A flow. I changed the fuel filter and the engine management light has gone but the problem is just as bad. I've not touched the fuel rail as I'm not confident enough yet but any thoughts on what the problem is please 🙏? Thanks

Next day I went to work all fine this morning I get in my car try to start It wouldn’t start so i’m guessing it’s a fuel pump I don’t have a scanner so I can’t get codes but i’m assuming it’s the fuel pump

    Gary, I commented and asked you a question about impact wrenches and Saabs last week. I have a fuel leak on the top of the tank on my '06 9-3 2.0 Cabrio with 97k miles. The car is not throwing any codes and is still running ok. I'm going to have to drop the tank obviously. I used an inspection scope and I'm sure the leak is in the fuel pump area. My car's tank has similar stains at the same locations as your car did. I have one day to get the tank down, finish the work and get it back on the road. I'm buying a new tank ring, vapor canister, fuel pump and fuel line clips. Is there anything else I should have on hand just in case? Thx

  • @WeakestofWeeks

    @WeakestofWeeks

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello Scot! I'm pretty sure I responded to your impact wrench question the other day. As for the fuel pump replacement it sounds like you're on the right track with what parts to have on hand. You may need exhaust clamps depending on how rusty yours are but thats something thats easier to take into the autopart store to match once removed. Outside of that, just try and use up as much gas as possible before you drop the tank. It's awkward enough with little fuel in it let alone multiple gallons.

  • @jscotlandr

    My flex pipe rusted out earlier this spring. I tried to save $ and cut the flex section out and installed one I had on hand. The idea looked good on paper, but it's not working out in reality. I'm going to go ahead and buy the replacement part that bolts to the downpipe and runs back to the resonator. (Another great place to use the impact wrench). I was tempted to drop the tank, see where the fuel is leaking from and just epoxy the break. However, fuel pumps are cheap enough to keep me from doing that.

  • @WeakestofWeeks

    That black bar you're referring to is the rear sway bar. You do not need to remove that to drop the fuel tank. Angle the front of the fuel tank downward until the back of the fuel tank clears the sway bar. Then you can lower the fuel tank down more evenly once you clear it.

Also that line from the inside the tank to the underside of pump, that clip was different from the one in the video. Could be that its a 2005, but thinking its just another replaceable clip I broke it off. Turns out its a built in spring loaded clip in the line connector end, oops lol Now I got to cut that end off and add a new connector or just clamp the line to the inlet part under the pump where it belongs..stay tuned.
