Polaris seems to have their share of problems. I had a 800s with the same problem. Before I ever opened up the trans the engine lost compression, put it in the junk pile with the sea of bombardier traxters. Then was sold to some kids that ended up rebuilding it. I absolutely loved how it performed in low through the rough stuff.
I've got a 2010 with the same symptoms 😅 maybe I'll just got with a gated shifter vs tearing into the whole transmission
What did you find that was reason for making that detent plate hard to switch gears mines doing same thing but with detent ball out it moves fine I installed new ball and spring with no luck
Awesome Job Jason. The shop looks amazing. Is it ready for winter?

Yep. Mostly. I got insulation board up on the wagon shed wall in the back so now it’s sealed. I would like to get plywood overtop of it but that don’t need to be done before winter. The new wood furnace is installed and ready to go! That’s one off the reasons I sold the outlander, to pay for it…lol.

@@AppalachianMountainRiders Smart idea! I would of done the same thing.
Welding it was a bold move. No one local that may have been able to turn up a pin? Hope it holds up in service. Best wishes!

The pin is actually part of the entire cast metal shift linkage so you couldn’t replace just the pin like I initially thought. That’s why it was on backorder cause it was that entire piece.

This is a common failure and welding is the usual fix

Have to pull the transmission and open it up. Not a difficult job but time consuming as there is a lot you have to dismantle to get to it.
How much
Can you give me please a part number?
if i were the owner, I’d sell that piece of shit to the first sucker that came along…. Wouldn’t even ride it…. Go buy a Honda ..👍… nice job though. 😀

Yes, best a Talon and have most possible transmission problems also but have invested much more money. Every manufacturer has it's own problems!

Honda talon is sweet.. I have owned four Honda Goldwings with many many miles. However the Old Razor 800 beats the Talon ride hands down... and does it on the cheap.. Good video but that pin was there for a reason so a bit concerning.
