Russell Simmons and Vlad Debate if Money Brings You Happiness

Ойын-сауық

Russell Simmons believes that money has nothing to do with one's happiness. Although many spend most of their days trying to make ends meet, whether to pay their bills or save up for their retirements, the mogul believes when their life ends, it's not going to matter.
The famed music mogul explained his stance further by explaining that the true goal in life should be enlightenment, not getting rich. When DJ Vlad commented about Russell making a lot of money during his career, Simmons pointed out that he's never chased money, but he's made a lot of money from doing the things he loves.
Later on in the interview Russell reacted to Eddie Griffin telling DJ Vlad that media wants to destroy the reputation of all Black entertainers, and Russell said that no one leaves this world clean. He then added that he doesn't want to speak directly about Cosby, but Simmons believes that where there is smoke there must be fire.

Money doesn't make you happy, but it gives you the closest thing to true freedom. And it's harder to be happy without freedom.

***** At the end of the day money is a key element in establishing happiness. It is (in today's world) fundamental. It is not everything - i think that is a given - but it is VERY important. And having a lot of it TOGETHER WITH your specific internal desires (eg: family, kids, a certain line of work, fame, religion, marriage etc) is ultimate bliss. Having either without the other (either just riches or just your specific internal desires) does NOT equal happiness. So can money buy happiness... for many of us i say YES ...because many of us already have great family, friends, relationships etc and having and excess money to give you the final element of financial freedom is the one thing missing. PS: I say this assuming that its a given that good health is a necessity as well.

  • @taccora

money makes you comfortable. it doesn't make you happy. Think about it as the law of diminishing returns. You're coming up in a comfortable household (or not) where you have what you need, but not necessarily all your wants. You hit the lottery and suddenly you're worth 150 million dollars. You're excited as hell because now you're debt free and (within reason) you can get all of your wants along with your needs. When you pay off your house and/or your parents house and you get your dream car or dream shoes what's next? Clearly the next car you get isn't going to make you feel as good as you did when you first purchased your dream car. Let's say you invest well. Your next million dollars won't make you feel as good as you did when you won that 150 million dollars that you needed so badly. At this point in my life I'm quite comfortable, but I get more joy and fulfillment from volunteering at my local food bank than making money.

Money is a big part of your happiness. I would agree that it is easier to say it when you have money, because throughout your life you thought that was the only problem and then when you get it, you realize you're still missing something. This would only apply to the people who have not dealt with their demons before the money. Because when you have it, and you still feel that emptiness, you have the luxury to pause a reflect on the actual root of your issues. Some people already do it and continue to fix them before the money.

Read a few posts . Here is what i took from what Russel was saying. Money isn't going to bring you happiness. Happiness is your state of mind. A Man with modest income who appreciates life perhaps has a great wife, healthy kids just appreciated living will be more happy than a Rich man chasing money who doesnt appreciate the beauty of life. Life is extremely rare. We've searched hundreds of planets mostly telescopes but we have yet to find life. Life should be cherished. Money is just paper. He tells Vlad it's all a game. A rich multi hundred million dollar minority that has realized that money never brought him happiness. Vald says well you've made money. Russel says yes but doing what i love, music, fashion etc . He never said money isnt important just said money doesnt bring you happiness. I dont got that bread neither do most viewers here i would imagine. He's been a multi millionaire for decades now. He says it might give u a shot in the arm but it wont give u happiness. The money worshipping Jew Vald was literally dumfounded lol. I would suspect money helps you sleep better, makes you comfortable makes you happy from time to time. But doesnt but you happiness that is found within in appreciating this gift of life and having a positive outlook on life. "It's all a game kid"-Russel Simmons

Russ is absolutely right! I have experienced both! Money helps relieve the stress of paying bills and not being able to access material things. However, money does not bring you internal happiness UNLESS you are happy before you get it. Only having a personal relationship with God, living out your TRUE purpose and calling will bring authentic happiness.

YEAH its easy to say that money doesn't mean shit when you live in a mansion worth tens of millions of dollars AND you can choose to meditate all day long if you want, with your 340 million dollar net worth..... You wouldn't be so keen to meditate or be able to have a meditation room if you didn't have millions in the bank. Millions in the bank made you a vegetarian, money made you a person of "god" Because now you have time to think about stuff and do what the fuck you want. You buy clothes with money but the clothes don't bring any satisfaction internally so spiritual enlightenment is key no matter what side of the coin you are on.

Once being rich becomes the norm you'll feel exactly how you feel now. As a kid you used to get so excited for Christmas cos it wasn't normal to get presents but if Christmas was every day you wouldn't get excited every day. Money brings pleasure not happiness. I believe happiness comes from reflecting back on your struggles of how you became successful knowing you never quit and suffered and are now in a much better position in life. Happiness is psychological not physical therefore physical things cannot bring it. Just my opinion.

Finesse listen yeah that cause people spend money on the wrong things. No shit spending money on material possessions only has a temporary happiness on someone well being. How about life experiences such as travelling... experiencing new cultures. People always say live life to the fullest... well you need money for that. Spending money on the right things makes you happy... anyone with a brain cell knows spending money on material possessions does not have a long lasting happiness. .

What Russell is saying is that money itself doesn't bring you happiness because their are happy poor people and some miserable rich people. With that being said, financial instability is certainly a source on unhappiness. We as Americans don't really know true poverty though. Be thankful for what you do have, while at the same time striving for more (assuming more is what u want).

Man I was happier when I had zero cents. Then I felt trapped to a game. Recently found my happiness through it. I'll say it's easy to be happy when you're living in full fluid motion of your direction. When you have bills and deadlines hanging over your shoulder so many are backed into corners that are hardier to be happy in. With all that said, it's always been about ME. When I allowed myself to be happy, I was happy. Regardless of ANYTHING. It's a mind state.

He wouldn't even allow the rest to be seen. He cut it short and he was the one interviewing Russell, asking for Russell's point of view. Smh.
