Rush - Time Stand Still (again) bass cover

Музыка

I wanted to redo this song because I decided the sound/playing on the original recording I did wasn't up to a standard befitting one of my top 2 or 3 favourite songs. My first videos were basically just plugging in direct and recording with no effects and now I wish I had put more effort into getting them sounding a bit better! (although I didn't think anyone would watch them to be honest)
I saw that the Show of Hands release date anniversary was recently so I decided to record along to that version of this song this time. It was also a lot easier to get my Jazz to stand out over Geddy's Show of Hands Wal. I really like the vocals on this version of the song especially the 'nights growing colder' section.
Turn the Page coming next, but had to redo this one for my own peace of mind. Can't have Time Stand Still represented poorly on my own KZread channel!
Recorded on Fender Jazz with Tech 21 YYZ pedal

Thanks! I would say I was an 'intermediate' player before I got into rush, but it's really playing rush songs that motivated me to get obsessed with bass practice. Geddys stuff just blew me away

@hemibass Couldn't agree more! Unfortunately, I'm not a musician, but all I'd want to do is play their stuff. The first time I saw him play ever (ASOH), I had an epiphany as to what a bass guitar can REALLY do. I was permanently hooked on them forever!

Thanks glad you think so! It's one of my top rush songs too. Listen to it all the time. I agree I think geddys fender around different stages is the perfect bass tone. I like the ric sound but the fender tone is more interesting to me

I'm not sure really that's just kind of how my technique has ended up. Probably many years of watching Geddy Lee and trying to copy how he gets his sound! Thanks for watching

@@hemibass @Live99 Geddy uses more than one finger, you definitely can't play most of his stuff correctly with just one finger, nonsense.

I have a little advice. I can't tell from the video, but that sounds and looks like the Fender "Geddy" Jazz - it's not great and I can tell by the uneven fret sound that it needs a proper set up. I would also replace the bridge with a BadAss cos the factory HiMass one on those Geddy (and standard Fender Jazz's) aren't great. And finally, you will never get the sound you want for that song or Turn The Page using a Fender Jazz (Geddy version or not) cos it was recorded on his WAL MKII and he used that live for a good period, including the recording of Time Stand Still from Birmingham NEC (and apart from video proof on their own video, I can tell you that's a fact cos I was at both shows in 1988 when they recorded it). Some great technique and dedication on show, I'm not knocking but I would suggest trying to develop your own style and your own tone and see how that goes rather than just trying to emulate one player etc - it's a well worn road and a fairly pointless one unless you're seriously considering Rush covers as a band.
