Royal Enfield Himalayan 411 - Rodent Rider - Mouse ( or Rat ? ) Comes For A Ride With Norman And Me

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Well, as I mentioned in my last video, I had a bit of a mouse problem in my motorcycle garage.
The small creature was walking all over my bikes with its muddy paws and making a right mess of them. I was also slightly concerned that it might get a bit bored and then start chewing through important cables !
This weekend, as I went to fetch Norman down for a well deserved road season starting wash, I discovered that the messy little critter had walked into my trap. Clearly the lure of some premium English Cheddar proved too hard to resist for this particular rodent.
Believing to have heard somewhere that you have to release mice far from where you found them, in order for them not to come straight back, I took the opportunity of taking my rodent motorcycle enthusiast for a ride on Norman, before releasing him in his new home.
This video tells the story of my rodent caper.
The trap has been reset, just in case my furry friend has a partner still residing somewhere in my garage. Should I catch his/her partner, I will of course release it in the same location, where they can hopefully meet up again and recommence their rodent romance !
There was much confusion as to whether I had caught a mouse or a rat.
Having observed the hairless tail and the large paws, I have come down on the side of a rat.
But he/she seemed like a friendly critter nonetheless. I shall miss him/her but hopefully he/she is having fun exploring his/her new home.
I hope you enjoy this unplanned and somewhat different video !

Can't understand why, I was riding responsibly 🤷‍♂ Maybe the lack of an adequate helmet was freaking him out ? I will go up to the garage again today to see if it had a partner. I might have to reunite them in the new location. If I make a second video about that, it can be called Rat-A-Two-Ey Cheers Dave, glad you enjoyed my attempt at being a naturalist. True Stefan. To be honest, I only take the car as an absolute last resort. If a chore can be done with a bike, then I'll always take a bike. This explains why my car does less than 2000 km per year and why I have to force the mechanics to change the oil at the annual service 😂 They dip the oil, it comes out golden and they say "No need to change, it's new !". I reply "But it isn't, it's been in there for 12 months, so change it !", If I didn't have Ruby, who needs the occasional ride to the vets, I think that I could sell the cars and cope without them to be honest. Maybe one day 🤔 Cheers Stefan. I hope your knee is getting better 👍🏻 Garry & Ruby

@@economicalrides The knee is sort of better, thanks for asking, Garry. Still can't open my knee fully, the doc says to start physio from next week. I've just had my trigger on the new CF moto 450 MT, think i'm in love with that bike, but with my disabled leg only cruisers and scooters are in order. I'm riding Simba the 125 scooter regularly.. Even as they said i shouldn't .. I've just strapped my crouches to the carrying hook, ride and unstrap .. Maybe I should get one of this disabled tags for the scooter.. That would be hilarious. My brother just bought Yamaha x-max 400 maxi scooter.. That is a monster, it's heavier then the classic 350. I knew that can't resist the pressure with just one 125cc in the garage. The temptation is bigger then the beer urge.😂 😂

@@Stefan_trekkie Oh good. Yes, sounds like physio should get your mobility back. Fingers crossed 🤞 The main thing is that your surgery went well. The rest should now only be a matter of time 👍🏻 I know ! Maxi scooters are soooo heavy. I had a Honda Silver Wing 400 and that features a TWIN CYLINDER engine, so was even heavier than the others, which tended to only use a single cylinder lump. I swear that Silver Wing was as heavy as a big Harley, no kidding. I only know that I dropped it once and unlike the Himalayan, stood no chance of lifting it on my own. I needed to flag down a passer by to help me get it back upright again. That CF Moto does look lovely and it's nice and cheap too. Unfortunately I do lack confidence in the brand. I worry about backup and support, should you ever need parts for it on a few years time. Otherwise I would definitely consider one of their larger bikes for myself ! Cheers Stefan. Good to hear that you are at least still enjoying the scoot 👍🏻 Garry

Hi Ken. He looked mildly terrified when we arrived at our destination. Not sure why. I was riding responsibly 🤷‍♂ Oh yes, a police stop would have made for an excellent addition to that video. I could have put up some wrongly translated misinterpretations of the conversation with the police officers and it could have been hilarious. As I always say, coppers never show up when you want them to, only when you don't ! Yes, it wasn't a Ken Brooks level of cleaning on Norman but it was decent enough. For once I used the pressure washer instead of a hosepipe and to be fair it did do an excellent job of blowing the crap off. I basically just pressure washed and then dried Norman with a microfibre cloth thing. Now that the main crap is off, Normans next wash will involve degreaser and then I can get the wheels, swing arm, side and centre stands and lower subframe clean and shiny. I didn't want to be crawling about in the big puddle I'd created with the pressure washer, so just dried those bits off and left them slightly greasy for now. But as I am sure you feel too, it's nice to see that that disgusting crud encrusted thing that used to be your motorcycle can come back to looking more or less like it looked when you bought it. It's just a kind of peace of mind when you see that after a long time of not seeing it ! Cheers Ken. Love to the pups ! Garry & Ruby ❤🐕

Yesterday the trap had been set off and was lying on its side, but no rat inside. I reckon he must have just about got out before the door shut, maybe just got his tail caught as he left and then he dragged the trap behind him for a few steps before shaking it off. Was gonna mention this on your last vid but you're lucky to have a garage. Have to keep my fleet outside. Covering them is a crap shoot, though. When they're covered, it's a bike B&B for the local cats and the Black Widows love them covered too. One cat decided to leave this Earth under the Spyder and the dealer found 5 Black Widows in the Meteor at the last service. For some reason they both leave the Navi alone. Anyway many props for letting the rat loose.

Hi Mark. Urgh. Sounds grim. I do not like spiders ! I much prefer rats ! Yes, covering things outside is not really a solution either. I see that with a covered BBQ in the garden for instance. When you come to use it, remove the cover, there always seems to be a ton of creepy crawlies and animal pellets all over the cover and it's all a bit icky. My garage is very dusty, not clean at all, but it is certainly better than having the bikes under covers outdoors, even if rats do get in there from time to time. Thanks Mark. I will be going up to the garage later today to see if the rat had a partner up there ( which is likely, apparently ). If I get a second one, I'll release it in the same spot and it will be "Rats reunited" 👍🏻 Cheers Mark. Be careful with those spiders ! Garry & Ruby ❤🐕 "Fanks for the sossidges Mark. But as you say, it was a spur of the moment ride, not planned at all but a good excuse to go for a blast. I still have other rats in the garage, so I might have to do a few more rides yet ! Cheers bud, ER.

Hmmm...most of us think it was a rat but I do prefer to think of it as a mouse. The large paws would indicate a rat. Mice apparently have very tiny feet 🙂

So, now I'm watching a video about a man releasing a Rat into a place it will probably die in sigh...Still, (perks up) you could watch MY video tomorrow of two grey haired men talking nonsense about BSA motorbikes. Now, THAT's quality viewing (looks hopeful...) 🤔

😂 Well, if the rats had been given further free rein to walk all over him, it was probably only a matter of time before they turned him into one !!! You know, stuffing coming out of the seat, excrement everywhere, wires with no insulation on them 😱 Probably best to keep on top of this particular infestation, otherwise it could get expensive. I would have paid extra to see you trying to put a helmet on that little fella, or girl? Did he or she distribute any waste materials on your Q bag?

Hi Roger. No not at all. Seemed quite unflustered by the torture of being strapped to a Royal Enfield and whizzed down the road at 50 mph ! I agree. The table tennis ball helmet would have been the icing on the cake but unfortunately I don't have any. Cheers MAMRE, Garry & Ruby

😂😂😂 More likely he caught something off me ! Seems he has a partner in crime, checked the garage again today. The cheese was eaten without the trap going off ! Reset it with some chocolate biscuits but will soon replace them with Mars bar, as recommended to me ! Could be Rats Reunited in a few days ! 🤞 I’m thinking that the second rat might prefer a ride on the Meteor, so might do that. You can probably look forward to another rodent ride. Rat-A-Two-Ey 👍 Cheers Jeff. Love to you both ❤️ Garry & Ruby

@@economicalrides 🤣 I have caught mice with Mars bar in the past. Admittedly not as humanely as your good self 😞 Much love back to both from both 😊
